Parts per million of what? I would guess some salt, some calcium, and some (county-required) chlorine (used to purify the water) are in that sample tested. So... 500 parts out of 1,000,000. is supposed to make the water unhealthy? I could understand and agree with your point, if it was cyanide or such a poison in the water.
If I lived in Maui again I would save up to have a well on property. It would be expensive but at least you're not getting city water. Maui has 2 of the wettest spots on earth. The amount of water there is immeasurable although the news and local politicians would have you think otherwise.

When it hits 700ppm your fertilized plants will die. Last county lab test in 2022 said 125ppm mostly salt water
