OMG An amazing simple explanation that works for any size. If I knew geometry would be this useful I would have paid more attention in school! Many Thanks
This is so helpful! Thank you,for not gatekeeping this knowledge and for presenting everything in such a clear and simple way. I am grateful for your work. Thank you.
I'm very hard of hearing and was concerned when I saw that there was no closed captioning. But you are so easy to understand, that I had no issues at all! I am pattern dyslexic which wasn't a thing when I was in school so I never understood geometry or algebra. If you had been my teacher, I might have at least had some understanding. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Absolutely learned everything I need to draft my own ball. Very clear instructions. Most other sites I looked at gave patterns or sold templates for various sizes but not how to make your own. Thank you!
This is exactly what I needed. Your instructions are very clear, and I look forward to using this to make a decorative fabric covered ball this afternoon.
Wow this is exactly what I needed , I'm making half a sphere for a pizza oven dome , I needed a cardboard mold to place concrete mix on. this will help me make the pattern to cut the cardboard sheets, thank you so much.
This video is super helpful, thank you! I was nervous while watching it the first time because I cant understand maths but in the end its so straightforward that i had no trouble following along!
Thank you for the tutorial. I'm pretty sure I learned how to do this back in primary school but that was decades ago and I kinda need it now. Fantastic video
@@IrinaSorokinaMyCraft haha yeah I started sewing 3 years ago and all of a sudden a lot of my old school supplies came in handy, like French curves or compass 🤣
this was extremely easy to follow! I modified the pattern a bit so that the leaflet shapes were connected in the middle. I plan to add a face to my ball and didnt want seam lines going down his face (its also just hard to embroider on a round surface). So far its worked perfectly! Its not a perfect sphere, but its not far from it. Thank you so much!!
what a clever method! i think, arithmetically, you can calculate the point E to point G distance: (length of hypotenuse CE)^2 / (width of your pattern). so in this example, it would be 49cm + 16cm (7cm-squared plus 4cm-squared), divided by 4cm. roughly 16cm. you'll still need to use a compass to trace the semicircles centered on point G and point H, but you should be able to skip drawing those first two semicircles and tracing the intersection to find the location of G. honestly, typing this out... the compass method seems easier 😅 but i never thought a sewing tutorial would get me to dust off my rusty geometry knowledge.
I tried doing the geometry myself bc I didn't really understand your equation. My solution was extremely complicated but for this example I calculated EG to be 13.25, which seems fairly accurate comparing with the roughly measured length @5:12 lmao The equation I got is: (w^2 +h^2)*tan(90-arctan(w/h))/(4h) With "w" as the width and "h" as the height (w=4, h=14 in this example)
Brilliant, thank you! I need to make a half sphere costume, and was ettin desperate about how i would do that. Your explanation is very clear and easy to follow.
thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU!!! I’m making a costume for my stepson for Halloween and was trying to figure out how to size up the pieces. I really REALLY appreciate the very detailed, step by step on how to determine this.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I have just spent the last 5 hours trying to work out how to do this, and now that I have finally looked it up - I can. Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to make a pattern for something that is more 'pineapple' or 'tear drop' shaped please? Are there any free programs that can help out with this sort of thing? Thank you all for your support. :-)
Instead of just give us the pattern to make the rainbow ball you make this video to teach us how to do our own pattern, I love the video
Isn't it better?
Thank you for watching!! :)
This is exactly what I needed. I need to know the science and how to do it, rather than just a pattern. Thank you so much!
