I think it's really important to understand how much the chainsaw changed the way we use axes. There's a difference between an all-purpose axe, a felling axe, a hewing/broad axe, a splitting axe.... The list goes on. You want your felling axes sharp. You want your splitting axes broad-beveled. You want your multi-purpose axes in-between. A double-bit axe was intended to have a different sharpness on each side so you could have a two-in-one without compromising the specialization of the tool. I personally keep a felling axe, a splitting maul and a framers' hatchet for camping. (The framers' hatchet is great for driving tent pegs, splitting kindling and limbing out larger trunks nimbly and quickly.)

Almost every sharpening video that uses the same test are lies. They only do this to act like they have skills and things cut amazingly once they worked a bit.
And half the time it's even a scam because they try to sell you shitty overpriced product afterward.

  • @guts60

Axes and hatches meant for felling trees and splitting logs aren’t supposed to be sharp. You sharpen them only to dull them immediately by hitting wood, and sharpening them files away some of the metal blade. They are meant to be wedges that use essentially blunt force to split and hack away at wood with sheer strength and gravity assistance.
Obviously you don’t want it to be a blunt point, but sharpening it to be a razor is pointless and sometimes detrimental.

Был бы это топор для мяса тогда да, был бы это топор именно для рубки деревьев вопросов нет, но это топор для колки дров, где острота не имеет большого значения.
