Judging is already questionable but they'll ruin all integrity in the sport if too much money gets involved. I think that's one of the reasons for their stupid tour format. Making the "world champion" come down to one event at a spot like trestles gives them all the control of the outcome. You might bet the right guy for the title but when they can influence the outcome they control who wins. It's a lot easier to mix up results at a spot like trestles because a wave like that is subjective for scores, where you can't really fake it at a spot like Pipe. I've already lost interest in the tour because of the final five idiocy but they'll ruin it all if they can profit.
They need to add a weighted value scale based on location. There's no reason perfect 2 foot dingy scores should be equivalent to massive Chopes, Pipe, or J Bay. If trestles is worth: 50 points, pumping chopes could be: 60-65 or something, after scores and standings are calc'd. It only boosts big days on big waves, without negatively impacting big days on the 80% of standard waves. Cloud, Tahiti, North Shore, Margaret River, J Bay should all mean a lot more than a handful of other spots. No perfect scores are the same. If one perfect score at a weak spot is 100%: a perfect score at Chopes should be 135-150% more points. They could even market it with some branded sticker like 'Volcom Gold Medal Spot' and maybe there's 5-6 over the season. Filipe now has to perform when it matters more, and not only hoarde up scores at 3.5ft waves.

From 5 -> 6, & then another 4, for /10 overall potential champions. Those 4 can only overtake after a bye for the top 6, or something like that. Or only 2-3/4 have chances to mix in to champs after rounds, tiebreakers, best x, etc. Thus, bottom 3 of the 6 can lose their spots or retain a hold. Round of 10 drops down to semis of 6, then 2x heats of top 3 -> Championship 2.

I like watching any contest at pipe, but like you mentioned it's easy to get skunked with different conditions throughout the day with this format, also makes betting on it harder. Just pretend your at some mystical slab overseas Nathan and you'll definitely take the win 🤣

Nathan--not just saying this because of the Channel. Nathan has improved a ton at Pipe going both ways at Pipe. Koa has gotten Better at Pipe too. Whoever has put the Most work in at Pipe. As for the judging criteria and the uneven conditions throughout the day as long as the judges re-scale on every heat it should be fine. Will not be an easy job the rescale the scores when you were judging 3 foot pipe with a devil wind vs 10fppt perfect conditions but that's what the format demands to be fairly done
john. Hes come out after the foam ball many times, somehow those are not 10s because its not clean but i think its more impressive. With that said Id give him composure stats going above anyone else and most likely to make it out of a closeout.
