here's my take on it. the character in newjeans' music videos is named Ban Heesoo. the fandom name is bunnies. (korean pronunciation of bunnies is very much like banheesoo) WE are heesoo. if ditto was the fan's perspective of a parasocial relationship between an artist and a fan. then omg is the artists' perspective.
hanni's monologue in the beginning: "when you call me, i will run to you anytime anywhere. i exist for you"
it brings the concern of artists having to exist only for the fans- they're trying to say they're *real* people too. she's an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run and be 'on' when the button (app) is pushed.
danielle is very smily/bubbly type of person. fans always comment on her happy attitude and when she's watching the tv static and laughing at it, i think it shows that she's under pressure to always smile and laugh bc that's the label ppl put on her and expect of her. so she's just laughing at nothing in that scene.
hyein has princess syndrome, because while always trying to dress up and be her prettiest self for the fans, she forgets reality and confuses herself with fairytales. (snow white, sleeping beauty, and the revenant references)
haerin- ever since debut, fans and nonfans have said haerin looks like a cat so much that she actually starts to believe she's a cat.
minji is the unofficial leader of the group (there are no positions in nwjns, but a lot of people and myself included think she has leadership qualities) and she's the oldest. so she's been known to take care of her members very well. hence her thinking she is a doctor who's under pressure to take care of her members.
i think the team at ador and hybe are VERY self aware of media and newjeans' market. they know what people say about newjeans!! this is their first comeback and only 5 months since their debut and they're already challenging the industry and doing callbacks to their debut! a MASTERPEICE of a music video, and the song is 10/10! i love the breaking of the 4th wall, i love how they called out their haters at the end of the video, i love hanni dressed as steve jobs. i mean, this video has it all- humor, weird/quirkyness, references, callbacks, serious topic, lore, introspection, thought provoking... no one is doing it like newjeans. i mean that literally, this has never been done before.
edit: putting any type of media or art out will absolutely mean there are going to be fan theories/people trying to decipher meaning to the media, especially if its so open-ended and vague like ditto and omg! please keep in mind that i am no expert on music video analysis or critical thinking- i just wanted to share my thoughts and have a discussion :) pls don't reply w mean things

His RUclips handle CalmdownMan could be interpreted as a reminder and a warning: Calm down, man... and don't do mental acrobatics while trying to figure out a literal meaning in an allegoric story - it's all about fan projection and them letting their imagination run wild!

in the mv, newjeans is the one projected as crazy but in reality we are fans is the one being crazy about how we interpret the mv n song. in ditto, heesoo or the fans are one who is crazy, broken, hurt, and alone. newjeans couldn't do anything about it. so fix yourself up and seek help!
The ending tweet I didn’t take it as “shade” to haters but a play on to the mv and facing the reality of the relationship between idols and fans. Idols are usually seen as a source of entertainment and most times when idols speak out on things pertaining to their mental health it’s ignored. The fan tweeted the mv made them uncomfortable and instead wanted them to “just dance and show their pretty faces.” It was ironic because in the MV they were dancing,cutesy and showed their faces but because of them being in a psych ward and the underlying message of mental health the fan immediately dismissed the reality of it all. Minji entered and told the person “let’s go” was her telling the fans to face the reality.

Hyein - a princess in a fairy tale. Hyein is known for being very fashionable and princess-like / model-like
Danielle - an idol, member of NewJeans. Dani reminds everyone of the "reality" that they are idols who are working and not to get mixed up with fantasy

Meanwhile haerin keep believing herself as cat and she even eat "churo" some kind of food for cat. The point is all the member in this MV is going crazy so they stay in the hospital while having different hallucination among each other

I feel like the member believing they are different things represents what the fans see them as for example haerin is known in the fandom for resembling a cat for her cat eyes, hyein is known for her beauty and her modeling career minji as the oldest member she is like the stereotype mother and caring of the group so I think they represent how idols sort of try to become what their fans want them to become and sort of loose themselves on the way. As for Danielle She is maybe only identifying herself as an idol and is the only things she can think about.

I'm loving the theories that you guys have come up with. At this point I think NewJeans was able to achieve their goal of making it open to interpretation. Sure, there could be one "correct" story about it, but since they didn't make that apparent in the vid, the way it makes our (viewers') minds work is already an achievement in itself and provides for great content and reactions.

it is plausible to suggest that this masterpiece right here displays how things can really be *internalized* & how most people are *desensitized* to it. i’d like to quote two of the comments i’ve read & also add my own commentary to it:
• ““i’ll run whenever you call me~ i exist for you,” hanni’s line may be expressing siri, but it’s a very important line to express idols. she is expressed as a *patient* who sings for us, _tries_ for us, and then _eventually_ *loses* herself & thinks that she is an iphone (siri) who has to do _anything_ she’s being told to. an "iphone", basically a metaphor for being a person who has to run & be ‘on’ when the button (app) is pushed.

when people are constantly telling idols what they should do & how to behave/having such audacity to dictate their lives, it will eventually get _into_ them. there is a chance that they may actually, subconsciously, start _believing them._ (this also reminds me of _the rise of bangtan ep 4_ or also known as the times where namjoon expressed his crisis of how he wrestled with his own thoughts that deals with the society’s opinion about him & idols in general, and how he also came up with the resolution of why would he even tried so hard to categorize & box his identity if he is an idol or an artist, when he can just be _himself_ without confinements). because by projecting things towards these artists & feel the need to tweak almost everything about them can be equal to insisting that they should replace their real selves in order to please us just because we are the source of their income and we are the ones making them relevant; which *ironically* made us become deeply into them and stan them in the first place because there are parts of them that are authentic... that are ‘very human’ which are relatable. and when hanni said, *_“now i am ashamed that i was worried. it doesn’t matter who i am anymore. i exist for you.”_* it’s just heartbreaking. because there are k-pop idols who feel sorry and people even guilt trip them when they are expressing their honest feelings. it’s sad that when they finally choose to share their genuine concerns, the public tends to deem them as ungrateful for all the platform, fame/success, support, and all those other things they have - _as if all these things would immune them from feeling empty or restless_ from doing what they used to be passionate about for a long time. when they are being invalidated, eventually, they may perceive that voicing out their thoughts and emotions are pointless since they are always available for fans, but they rarely get to have someone who will listen to them & hold space for them. (it honestly kinda reminds me of the same dilemma in singularity by taehyung. the lyrics *_“i don’t have a voice,”_* *_“i dumped myself into the lake, i buried my voice for you”_* & *_“have i lost myself or have i gained you”_* this is important because as a singer, his voice is what defines him. a symbol of his identity, if you will. it could be interpreted as them sacrificing their real voice and identity in order to please us. or the later half of bts festa 2022 where they’ve expressed their dilemmas when they are experiencing burn out. taehyung even said, “i’ve wanted to show the things that are inside me for a long time now. *_at some point, having these thoughts started to feel wrong. i became cautious in even mentioning the things i’ve wanted to try._* and it was hard to even say that i’m going to try it.” or when hobi said, _“so i hope you don’t see this as a negative thing.”,_ _“i hope you’ll understand”.)_
stans (and even the industry itself) have the tendency to feel entitled & therefore, demand such unnecessary things from them. things which *don’t* really lessen their musicality/artistry, other skills, and *worth.* they are being subjected to be stripped off their basic rights just for the entertainment & the audience’s attachment to them which we already know are harmful _(e.g., fans are very much enticed to fall in love with them but idols themselves are not allowed to fall in love or being frowned upon & lose support if ever they are involved in dating scandals or they themselves openly admit that someone else’s already own their heart & thus, they’re not available anymore which will crash the fantasies of delusional individuals out there and companies who profit from them being marketed as fans’ potential romantic partners/close friends/family i.e. parasocial relationships)._ but sometimes, things still need to be put into perspective. this visual presentation & social commentary is truly top tier that we all should learn from & be _more_ mindful of. otherwise, we would all collectively loose our minds without even knowing it. and just go back from “it is what it is” since such unhealthy perception & treatment has always been the norms - especially in the industry that people mostly often apply the “they’re just doing their job” notion & forgot that they are also human beings like us.

the only one i’ve experienced who goes with _this kind_ of depth, substance, socio-psychological commentaries and other related issues & therefore has that replay value _ever since_ day 1/debut, is bts. so experiencing the craft of newjeans: the concepts & rich message they’re going for so far is both nostalgic and refreshing in today’s era saturated of only aesthetically-focused content without that much of a substance. and the fact that they are doing both is chef’s kiss.
sorry if this is long-winded. i just can’t express enough how this is just so promising at all levels.
p.s. all the references i’ve mentioned that i personally find relatable to one another are just based on my background as a psych major, my prior exposure to k-pop culture, those similar patterns i’ve observed in how the industry works, and even just from individuals i’ve encountered/get to experience daily (how they turn their thoughts & emotions into art.) thanks for checking out new jeans!

Hanni's korean accent is MAD IMPRESSIVE. Of foreign idols (who aren't korean-american or korean-australian, etc) the only person who's accent might be better is Kangta (I'm sure Im missing others).

@benjaminb.9553 I only base that when I compare my Japanese friends speaking korean vs my few Vietnamese friends who do. To my ear, my Japanese friends sound much closer to korean pronunciation vs my Vietnamese friends....especially when it comes to vowels. No need to be mean or a dick
@@703elee Hanni is Vietnamese ethnic but her first language is English since born and raised in Australia, with Aussie nationality. I think that the reason why she doesn't have the accent. Since Vietnamese tends to have very twisted tounge way of speaking and up and down intonation.

This year 2023 is New Jeans's year. I never stan for girls groups but the first time.... Really into New Jeans. They are really talented. from Japanese BTS ARMY.
Someone on another video said Ditto and OMG both stand for the parasocial relationship between idols and fans with Ditto being the perspective of the fan. And Heesoo(the girl filming) being so fixated on New Jean's as their favorite group they ignore reality and miss out on a lot of moments but then come to realize that they need to touch grass and build some real life relationships which is what they did with the boy in the MV and once they realized that they no longer saw New Jean's. But they also acknowledged that they liked them at some point in time and in the Side B MV she crashed the camera when she no longer needed them and at the end you can see them watching the clips they recorded.
In OMG it is from the idols perspective and all the girls are seeing the world through what their fans associate them w like for example ppl believe Minji is the mom which is why she believes she believes she's the doctor and not a patient and Hanni believes she is an iPhone bc fans said she spoils comebacks (not in a negative way) and usually she gives just enough to get an idea but still keeps the privacy just like an iPhone which let's users access tons of information but is also known for having high privacy as well. Haerin believes she's a cat bc fans always say she has cat like characteristics. Danielle is known as the most excited and bubbly member which is why she is seen in the MV laughing at the blank TV bc she is a happy person and easily excited. Hyein is called the princess which is why she believes she's in a fairytale and has a princess complex.

I know I'm late but this whole thing that's happening on OMG MV reminds me of NewJeans being alters of someone who has a mental health issue; Split Personality. -Each alters has different important roles. If u have seen the Split movie, they also have a monster, demon, beast or whatever u calls it personality. For them, that seems to be the Bear. The ones in front of the system are Hanni and Minji, they're likely to take over, like literally the oldest who takes care of their well beings, mental and physical. While Haerin is just there as the cat.
Also they happen to have their own world as well. In Hyein's part, she's acting like she's indeed the youngest and likely to daydream a lot. Kind of in a delusional way and Danielle who's acting like an older brother plays along. They seems to be having this roleplay where Hyein would ran away like Cinderella but accidentally going too far from home into the woods, which is a dangerous area for the personalities and stumbles upon the bear. Maybe that is why Danielle was worried when she finds out and went looking out for her.

This music video shows the parasocial relationship from the idol's perspective. The girls are imagining becoming/manifesting what their fans want them to be, and in the process they are losing themselves and land in a psych ward. For example the fans say that of the girls (Haerin) has 'cat like characteristics' so in the video she starts thinking she's a cat, as this is how her fans define her and put her in a box.
So when Hanni was in the iPhone why did she say “ Hesso please answer the call” , and in the Ditto video we see Hesso crying in a corner ignoring a phone call. Why is the same cat in both videos and Hanni talks to it in Ditto? Why does the camera glitch in both OMG and Ditto? It all seems to be linked to a bigger story. The clues are pointing to that.
@@stups9975 Hanni was not contacting Hesso specifically. Hanni is feeling like all she is are Instagram posts, updates etc. In Ditto Hesso thought that New Jeans were her friends, but they weren't. She was just one of the fans that imagined she had a special relationship with the idols. But that was all an illusion. The phone call was not to Hesso directly, Hesso just thought it was personally for her, but it was a general update to all fans. As for the cat, I don't think it's the same cat, it was just to show how Hesso and new jeans played together.

Like an actual channel for the tape of the old camera in Ditto and it shows the members, and hidden clips that wasn’t shown in the music video.
