I miss release Merlin where his only issue was long cool-downs. You could dominate in a single stance and absolutely carry if you could play him well/properly. Merlin was the reason spear of magus and gem of isolation got changed due to breaking both items. Deleting objectives with dragon fire pen shred, gem of iso proc the slow in coding before dmg calculation so you could just spam frost bolt and constantly get the bonus dmg. Now he still he long cool-downs not as long but long enough. Also with so many damage nerfs and item nerfs literally can’t play the game for 25 minutes and with little to no cc he just gets dove and rolled because even playing the best meta build and utilising his entire kit perfectly you tickle with the little dot dmg and cc. Merlin is my favourite god aesthetically and gameplay wise. It just sucks watching him go from game breaking to op to balanced to average to underperforming due to heavy nerfs, item nerfs and power creep for new and buffed gods that are just relevant the entire game with either damage, defence, mobility or cc and Merlin dosen’t do any of them well except damage post 30 minutes of farming and if that’s the case I might aswell play Scylla, Janus or any other high damage late game mage. Merlin’s quality of life changes have been nice cause they reduced cool-downs because doing 10 damage after waiting 12+ seconds was absolutely awful so he is better than what he has been but compared to what he was and what current gods can do it’s really sad. Same with King Arthur atleast Morgan Le Fay was pretty balanced and barely got changed
Merlin Enjoyer here - I always max the 1 cause ice 1 and void 1 are all you need for clear and poke. cooldown on ice 1 is nuts for poke and void 1 clears wave like level 2 or 3? it's actually so much better. i'm also not 100% on this but i think the Fire 1 is the one that shreds prots not the 2? so the 1 is just... all around better to be maxing first.
Exactly! The 1 also has decent area of effect splash damage so you can hit minions on the side of wave and sometimes poke enemy gods.
if you want to do more early game as Merlin, buy gem of iso as your first item, and this should be the build Gem of iso>Divine Ruin>Charon'ss coin>spear of deso, chronos pendant OR staff of myrddin for more damage less cooldown, and lifesteal starter, the evolved starter will give you 15% more damage per ability at the cost of 3% max hp per ability, Merlin is squishy af, so you should not be getting hit in the first place, and charons coins give you a decent HP5 regen, so it recovers the hp missing
Id love to see you try this again now that 9.5s been reverted. Merlin used to be absolutely INSANE and I hope that he feels better for you than he did in this video

Usually go 3 points into the 2 so that ice stance full clears the wave and then max the 1 for burst
