One thing about using a qwerty keyboard as midi keyboard, its the quick settings of press this key for this. It overlaps and makes a lot of random things instead of sound. Would be nice to have a video about the technical things that can go wrong and how to fix. Computers never work smoothly for me, so I would personally love it

At 7:30, when I do this, I get no signal. I also hear nothing when I click the keyboard keys in the "MIDI Devices" settings when the virtual input device is selected. What am I doing wrong??

11:12 I double click the header, click on velocity and pencil but it doesn't show me instrument names on the left :( so I click with pencil no instrument sound. This is kinda complicated.
Honestly, with added DDP creation support and some authoring and editing features... this software has the potential to be an incredible mastering workstation. I’m a big Pyramix and Reaper fan, but would much prefer a leaner tool like this to work on, the layout is so logical.
When I use waveform I record a lot of things direct in. But when I use a live mic I have a latency issue. Vocals and drums are always slightly behind. I go in and manually move these tracks slightly to get the timing right, but how do I correct this issue? Thanks.
there's just one problem. i can't find any instrument plugins. i go to your video in the description on it, and they require completely different programs that I have to install. i just want an instrument plugin for waveform.
Waveform free comes with micro drum sampler and 4osc synth. When you go to add plugins go to the waveform section and you’ll see an instruments section they will be in there. But yeah waveform free doesn’t come with a ton of instruments you will need to download free or paid plugins and install those.

Im using a u-phoria UM2 interphace with waveform but cant hear anything (myself, other tracks or the click) with the interphace selected as source, how can i change the output while still having the UM2 as input?

I tried to make a drum loop without a midi device. I have done as per your instructions, however, I can't find any writing against the vertical keyboard layout on the left, and as a result, I can't assign notes on the midi screen. excellent video! This is my 4th DAW to learn, and while they all do pretty much the same thing, WHERE within each program things are varies. I can see how your pace might be quick for a newbie, but just save it and watch it again whenever needed.
For some reason that is unknown to me, the drum kit won't make any sound when I draw the notes into the piano role or whatever it's called. And also, the menu that tells you the properties of each track doesn't show up for me, so I can't generate any patterns. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I don’t know what might be going on with your piano roll. Make sure the instrument plugin is the first one on the track (furthest to the left). As for the missing menu at the bottom it’s probably minimized. If you look at the bottom you should see an arrow. Click on the arrow and it will bring that bottom menu up.
PLEASE HELP!!! I've got my NORD STAGE 3 usb cable connected to macbook pro, Waveform software installed, new project opened, track enabled ,Nord showing signal, plug in on track. Everything looks good BUT NO AUDIO coming through speakers or headphones. Please help troubleshoot? Much appreciated
Is the instrument plugin the first one on the track (all the way to the left)? Sometimes that can cause problems if it isn’t. Is there a yellow error showing up on the screen at all?
I don't know if you still respond to comments, but I got the midi keyboard to work on the app, except one issue. While the sound plays when I click on the keys on the screen, when I try to use my computer keyboard to play the keys no sound plays. Idk how to fix this?

Could you use Waveform Free to record a cappella quartet music? Does it give you the ability to record the tracks separately and digitally "align" the parts, then mix the parts either left or right or both for effect? Thanks!
Yes. You can record multiple tracks at the same time on their own separate tracks. Then you can align them however you like, pan them, add effects, cut parts out, copy and paste parts, add more in or whatever you want.
I've been having some issues with mid song tempo changes. specifically i want the tempo change to not be exactly on a beat but at a specific time, yet whatever i do i can't seem to get it where my cursor is. any help is appreciated, thanks 🙂

However I only hear my own Casio piano sound and not the "Upright Piano" sound I was hoping for. To play the "Upright Piano" sound, I have to use the virtual keyboard on my computer screen. Yes you can record multiple tracks at the same time. Set the input of each track to whatever input it is you’re recording. Arm them all for recording, hit record and all of the armed tracks will record at the same time.
the tutorial was great i just got one problem when i connect my midi keyboard and i try to enable it and error message pops up saying "can't open midi port" can someone tell me how to fix that problem ?
I have a Mackie PRO FX12 V3 mixer with Waveform OEM 12 software. After a successful AUTO DETECT test. I am no longer getting sound back to my headphones. as I was before. Headphones are plugged into the mixer. No sound during playback of my recorded tracks from the software. It seems after AUTO DETECT test some settings may have possibly changed. How do I get my sound back to the headphones. I used a patch cable from the headphone jack to channel 1 of the mixer to perform the AUTO DETECT test. This was the only way AUTO DETECT could detect the signal as the Mains out OR control room outs did not work with AUTO DETECT... Thanks.
If you are recording an insterment, you can split the track at the biginning and end of the note by zooming up the track, hold a line at the beginning of the note and press / key, and again at the end of the note. In each position after slicing the track press "I" at the first slice and "O" at the second slice , back up a measure or two then sellect the PUNCH IN icon and record. As you record the part again it will only record that note between the I and the O. If it is a midi track, go into the midi editor, grabe the note you want to change and move or delete. Hope that answeres your question. Sorry, i forgot to point out, after you slice each point, click on the section that you want to get rid of and delete it. REMEMBER to click on the part you are wanting to delete to highlight it first. I far to often slice, right click and delete the whole track.... thank got for the back up button. lol

I am going to demo the free version, thank you for posting this. This DAW really interests me and 150 for the pro version is a great price. If I am productive in the free I'm most likely gonna pull the trigger on pro.
this is a great tutorial, definitely better and more up to date then the official ones but one thing I noticed while I was following along was when I went to go pencil in the drum track it would not let me do it with a midi track, I had to use a step track for the drum sampler instead. still not sure if I'm doing something wrong though because you had the option for a step track too but didn't use it.
Basicly i just to use this program to make music with real instruments and i am using a ssl 2 as interface with the waveform as software but the software doesnt recognize or dont pick up any of the instruments ill have plugged in ? Could u help me in this ? Thanks 😊
Make sure your audio interface is set up correctly in the settings. Make sure the gain on the audio interface is decent for the input you are recording to. Use the LED meter to make sure you aren’t clipping or too low. You can also use the monitor mix control set all the way to input to make sure you can hear the instrument that you’ll be recording in. If it’s a guitar that has passive pickups, enable the Hi-z button on the input you are recording to. If it has active pickups you can try hi-z but if it’s too hot (clipping even at low gain) then you can try it on Line. If you’re recording a condenser mic, make sure 48v phantom power is enabled. If you’re recording a dynamic mic, make sure you are giving it enough gain. Dynamics usually take tons of gain. You might have to crank it. Make sure you are selecting the correct input on the track that you’re recording to. Make sure the track is armed for recording. Hit record and if everything. Was done correctly, you should have audio coming in.

I can't find the live input monitoring button anywhere for some reason. My screen doesn't have the big bottom portion of the screen, only a reduced version of it that doesn't include that button.
I try to do the midi piano roll with the micro drum sampler but no matter what I do, it won't play the notes with the drum instruments, just with the default piano sound...
If I don't have any instruments, would I be able to edit the instruments sound effects from the software as an alternative? Also, which software works the best for EDM practise?
Yes. If you’re using an audio interface you’ll need to plug your headphones into the audio interface. If you want route your audio another way, you could download the free Asio4all driver and set it up so your audio interface is the input but your computer soundcard is the output.

What I want to achieve in the end is that I want to be able to send audio and midi into waveform from fl studio. Is there a way to do this and if so can you explain how? Help! What does "panic! reset audio engine" mean?? It also says "no selected inputs have input monitoring enaed so there will be no audible output". I dont get how to change these things. This is causing me a lot of problems, I need help  when I record the bass with the MODO BASS plugin, hitting the correct beat, when I finish recording, the notes get out of sync and are heard before I played them. I play along perfect on beat and after hitting stop I watched the track move up exactly one beat. The worst of all, is that if I put them correctly manually, later, when I export, again the bass is out of sync. Please help, I don't know what to do.

Maybe I'm more green than I realize, but in watching you play your midi instrument, there's no sound, so how can you play along with the guitar track? I'm only seeing notes register on the screen. Is it possible with Waveform to "record" the click track, we are a small latin combo and during this lockdown I am recording my guitar tracks and then posting to the percussionist, he will then record his track (to the click), post it back so I can delete original guitar track re record my guitar to his percussion, this is now ready for the vocalist and sax player. Long winded I know but can't think of any other way...cheers
You can’t record the click track within waveform. What you could do is get a free metronome plugin and put it into waveform on the master track and render the file with it on. Hey there, I've followed your video to help me setup recording my electronic drum kit. But when I play back my recording, it's not playing back all hits even though on the screen it is displaying an input has been recorded on that controller. Any fix to this? Thanks?
Maybe the hit that’s not making sound is mapped incorrectly for the drum plugin that you’re using. You can test this by clicking on the piano key for that note in the piano roll. If it makes noise then it’s mapped properly. If not then you need to change that in the drum plugin. Or sometimes the hit can be too short and it doesn’t register with some drum plugins.
Does anyone know why the midi notes in the timeline are lighter color, like a white color, but when I download waveform now, no matter how I change the appearance settings, the midi notes are a dark grey, making them a little harder to see against the clip background?

Yes there are a few ways you can do it. 1. Computer keyboard shortcut press CTRL+Z 2. If you have the bottom menu expanded you’ll see an “undo” button at the left side of the bottom menu. There’s also a redo button just in case you need that too. 3. If you have the bottom menu minimized then you’ll see a circle icon that has an arrow pointing to the left. That is the undo button. It’s located towards the left side of the minimized bottom menu.

I have a Mackie PRO FX12 V3 mixer with Waveform OEM 12 software. After a successful AUTO DETECT test. I am no longer getting sound back to my headphones. as I was before. Headphones are plugged into the mixer. No sound during playback of my recorded tracks from the software. It seems after AUTO DETECT test some settings may have possibly changed. How do I get my sound back to the headphones. I used a patch cable from the headphone jack to channel 1 of the mixer to perform the AUTO DETECT test. This was the only way AUTO DETECT could detect the signal as the Mains out OR control room outs did not work with AUTO DETECT... Thanks.

I am trying to use my keyboard, but instead of it inputting notes, it is just activating hotkeys.
After recording some cords, is there a way to cut/split single notes?
If you are recording an insterment, you can split the track at the biginning and end of the note by zooming up the track, hold a line at the beginning of the note and press / key, and again at the end of the note. In each position after slicing the track press "I" at the first slice and "O" at the second slice , back up a measure or two then sellect the PUNCH IN icon and record. As you record the part again it will only record that note between the I and the O. If it is a midi track, go into the midi editor, grabe the note you want to change and move or delete. Hope that answeres your question.
Sorry, i forgot to point out, after you slice each point, click on the section that you want to get rid of and delete it. REMEMBER to click on the part you are wanting to delete to highlight it first. I far to often slice, right click and delete the whole track.... thank got for the back up button. lol

onn the video at the point of track 2 i couldnt hear any audio when u were pushing the keyboard keys even u said it yourself but i would like to hear the keys being pused so i can hear what it sounds like before i start recording and put it onto the chart!! Any tips on how to set it so i can actually hear the audio of the keys being pushed before im happy to push record please...thank you

Hi How to add reverb for recording live vocals
this is a great tutorial, definitely better and more up to date then the official ones but one thing I noticed while I was following along was when I went to go pencil in the drum track it would not let me do it with a midi track, I had to use a step track for the drum sampler instead. still not sure if I'm doing something wrong though because you had the option for a step track too but didn't use it.
Basicly i just to use this program to make music with real instruments and i am using a ssl 2 as interface with the waveform as software but the software doesnt recognize or dont pick up any of the instruments ill have plugged in ? Could u help me in this ? Thanks 😊
Make sure your audio interface is set up correctly in the settings.
Make sure the gain on the audio interface is decent for the input you are recording to. Use the LED meter to make sure you aren’t clipping or too low. You can also use the monitor mix control set all the way to input to make sure you can hear the instrument that you’ll be recording in. If it’s a guitar that has passive pickups, enable the Hi-z button on the input you are recording to. If it has active pickups you can try hi-z but if it’s too hot (clipping even at low gain) then you can try it on Line.
If you’re recording a condenser mic, make sure 48v phantom power is enabled.
If you’re recording a dynamic mic, make sure you are giving it enough gain. Dynamics usually take tons of gain. You might have to crank it.
Make sure you are selecting the correct input on the track that you’re recording to.
Make sure the track is armed for recording.
Hit record and if everything. Was done correctly, you should have audio coming in.

I can't find the live input monitoring button anywhere for some reason. My screen doesn't have the big bottom portion of the screen, only a reduced version of it that doesn't include that button.

I try to do the midi piano roll with the micro drum sampler but no matter what I do, it won't play the notes with the drum instruments, just with the default piano sound...
If I don't have any instruments, would I be able to edit the instruments sound effects from the software as an alternative? Also, which software works the best for EDM practise?

Yes. If you’re using an audio interface you’ll need to plug your headphones into the audio interface. If you want route your audio another way, you could download the free Asio4all driver and set it up so your audio interface is the input but your computer soundcard is the output.

What I want to achieve in the end is that I want to be able to send audio and midi into waveform from fl studio. Is there a way to do this and if so can you explain how? Hi. This is causing me a lot of problems, I need help  when I record the bass with the MODO BASS plugin, hitting the correct beat, when I finish recording, the notes get out of sync and are heard before I played them.
I play along perfect on beat and after hitting stop I watched the track move up exactly one beat.
The worst of all, is that if I put them correctly manually, later, when I export, again the bass is out of sync. Please help, I don't know what to do.

Maybe I'm more green than I realize, but in watching you play your midi instrument, there's no sound, so how can you play along with the guitar track? I'm only seeing notes register on the screen. Am I missing something obvious? It would help to hear a few tracks being built as you build the arrangement, then hearing the whole thing back. Is there a tutorial for that? Maybe that would help me grasp this better.

Is it possible with Waveform to "record" the click track, we are a small latin combo and during this lockdown I am recording my guitar tracks and then posting to the percussionist, he will then record his track (to the click), post it back so I can delete original guitar track re record my guitar to his percussion, this is now ready for the vocalist and sax player. Long winded I know but can't think of any other way...cheers
You can’t record the click track within waveform. What you could do is get a free metronome plugin and put it into waveform on the master track and render the file with it on. I think Melda Audio has a free metronome plugin but I know there are others out there too. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍

Hey there, I've followed your video to help me setup recording my electronic drum kit. But when I play back my recording, it's not playing back all hits even though on the screen it is displaying an input has been recorded on that controller. Any fix to this? Thanks?
Maybe the hit that’s not making sound is mapped incorrectly for the drum plugin that you’re using. You can test this by clicking on the piano key for that note in the piano roll. If it makes noise then it’s mapped properly. If not then you need to change that in the drum plugin.
Or sometimes the hit can be too short and it doesn’t register with some drum plugins.

Does anyone know why the midi notes in the timeline are lighter color, like a white color, but when I download waveform now, no matter how I change the appearance settings, the midi notes are a dark grey, making them a little harder to see against the clip background?
What are the velocities like for your midi notes? if the velocity is low then the notes will be grey no matter what your color settings are.

Yes there are a few ways you can do it.
1. Computer keyboard shortcut press CTRL+Z
2. If you have the bottom menu expanded you’ll see an “undo” button at the left side of the bottom menu. There’s also a redo button just in case you need that too.
3. If you have the bottom menu minimized then you’ll see a circle icon that has an arrow pointing to the left. That is the undo button. It’s located towards the left side of the minimized bottom menu.

You need to put an instrument plugin onto the track that has the midi on it. It should also be the first plugin (furthest to the left).
