- How to play Workin for MCA by Lynyrd Skynyrd from Second Helping. Great guitar work by Allen, Ed and Gary. Filmed this during the Covid-19 quarantine and it's a weird overcast day in Southern California. Caused a bright spot on the fretboard so sorry if that's an issue. Good luck with this one. Ed had a very unique style.
Man these boys were way ahead of their game.
Man was thinking same. Was watching the 1977 concert in NJ on RUclips. Steve Gaines is absolutely shredding.
Thanks for the mail tip. Been playing that song for 30 yrs and was missing that pull of on the 2 notes in the 5th fret. Thanks so much. You got skynyrd down pat. You rule dude.
Ed just had his own path in soloing. Thanks for the video, this break down of parts is perfect. Thanks again
Ed King, my all time favorite guitar player
Steve Gaines was great but they were a better band during the Ed King years. As a southern guy, it's funny that he had the most "southern" sound of all the Skynyrd guys and he was a California guy. ( Great bass player, too.)
@@ttexas1963 oh man I disagree entirely. I thought they were a much better live band with Steve. Street Survivors is as good if not better than Pronounced or Second Helping. Ed King was awesome too though, I love it all!
@@welldonebrainn It is great, as was Gaines ( You Got that Right is pure genius). They were both great, just different. I just love the way Ed played a Strat. His tones were different than most Strat players, and his solo's never went where you thought they would. Plus " I Need You" written by Ronnie and Ed was my favorite and one of the most underrated songs in their catalog. Rossington played great leads on it as well. All that being said, Steve Gaines was great and I wish we could've heard all he could've done later because he would've gotten more and more comfortable with the band. They were blessed to have all of them ( Allen was great, too).
@@ttexas1963 agree100% just awesome all the way around. Ed was a monster. I love what Steve brought to the band vocally.
@@ttexas1963 SO true yeah SO true. And I need you a total masterpiece of true LS.
Ed had such a unique way of soloing compared to gary and allen, much more melodic, but gary's solos were always my favorite, just flowed great, fit the groove so well. I got so used to hearing the live version with steve (one more from the road) I hadn't heard the studio of this one in ages.
Can you give me an example for a great gary solo?
@@mariovomhof2775 call me the breeze
@@mariovomhof2775 simple man and a couple from that smell
This may seem crazy but I prefer Allen Collin's solos. I didn't for a long time - but man they have aged well.
This song is on my bands bucket list, we have a lot to work to do. You nailed it. long live Skynyrd....Thank you.
Great! Don't stop the Skynyrd lessons!! Would see "I need you" rythm chords !!
Am, G, D, Am bro
Walk down before chorus holds Am but walks G, F#, F.
You are spot on with skynyrd
I've been playing for 45yrs. And it was all skynyrd for me. I realized all this time that I was decent copying skynyrd but I can't ever b as great as you are. Every note u play on working 4 mca is awesome. I actually met Ed King in pittsburgh at the civic arena before a show on the tribute show (10) yr tour. He said he hated that song (working 4 mca. We laughed as I said that song is my favorite
So thank u so much. U should have taken Gary's place instead of the dude from brother cane❤
And now I'm going to half watch this 10,000 more times 😊 thank you. Rock on.
From a Strat to a Gibson and a marshall half stack. Brother I'm a drummer and only 37, but one of the biggest Skynyrd fans breathing. Would you do a video on Gimme back my bullets? That was some of Gary Rossingtons best guitar picking.
Thanks, its nice to see the solos separately. What a song! Man I miss them all so much. Their music was a wonderful and tragic part of mine and many others.
Wicked channel brother!…..after 35 years of playing, in revisiting Skynyrd to find the parts I’ve missed….thank you!🤟🏻✌️
This is just incredible, man. Kudos to the max
so that's how the riff is played. Way back in myspace era I messaged Ed about that and he actually wrote me back saying nobody ever plays it right. He even offered to show me how in case I happened to be in his hoods. Only 5k miles apart... Rest easy.
Dude, Keep them coming, between you and Scott Raines I feel 17 again ! Excellent videos.
Great video.
Like that there’s both rhythm and lead as well as switching guitars based on the parts.
Listened to every Skynyrd song over 100 times. This is my favourite. Thanks for doing this
Great job
Lovin this! Inspiring me to practice more and more, thank you!
First lesson. NEVER post while frustrated. Lynyrd Skynyrd songs are awesome. I will learn to play them. Someday I'll be able to play them like you. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this video.
Great stuff mate, love that sound you"re getting
Awesome job brother and thanks for giving your time!
Ryan I like your lessons. You play the parts correctly. Thank You for the great lessons.
Love it 👌excellent note for note. Great work👍
Hi Ryan! Your first name is actually my last name LoL
You do such a great job with all this Skynyrd stuff, really love how you use the correct guitar for each player too. That Firebird is really beautiful, its actually nicer than the one Allen had. I think? Allens was a '67, probably bought in '67? I chuckled when I saw the video with the HIWATT head too👍 they were using those for a while. Always loved the guitar interplay between these guys they worked so well together. Ed said there were never any egos between them they all just wanted to do what was was best for the music and it showed. They all seemed to write the perfect parts and worked so well together. They were the perfect "guitar army"! The Ed King years were my favorite and the defining Skynyrd sound imo Steve started them in a different direction and they sounded completely different and although extremely talented "new Lynyrd Skynyrd" didn't sound the same to me anymore. But, if you even see this I just wanted to mention how awesome these videos are and say thanks for all the work you put into them great job👍
Great work! May I put in a humble request in for a "Double Trouble"? You got Allen Gary and Ed down to a T! Such a pleasure to see/hear.
Just found your videos!!!!! Awesome! Bravo! Thanks a million
Glad I found this channel. There was another guy who did a lot of skynyrd lessons and he seems to have disappeared off of youtube. His name was tom Segundo or something close. Looks like your my new skynyrd guy!
yeah, ole Tom just up and vanished...too bad..he was good but glad I found Ryan here..much better quality.
Tom Saguto has a golf channel but the guitar channel vanished. Im hoping it wasnt because of the flag in the background. The man had some great content.
@@jblooz2371 never even thought the SC flag couldve been a reason but in todays world it makes sense
I like the way you teach it's easy to pick up I'm playing.' You got that right. " After watching your video of that great song. After watching. "Call me the breeze" I will at least take a shot at the intro and rythum parts. Thanks Gail
They all were masters of they're craft for sure
I like the I ain't the one intro at the end of it haha!
Really enjoy your videos, appreciate all the effort, would love to see a video on the rhythm to I know a little, tough for me to hear clear on album and don,t see much on RUclips for rhythm, it would be greatly appreciated if you would, great Playing !!
Ed King years are my favs!
I hope your site doesn't get taken down like Tom Saguto's. Someone in the Skynyrd organization doesn't like these videos.
Keep up the great stuff.
@JJ Scott I was wondering what happened to Tom. I dont understand why anyone would want to shit him down
@JJ Scott hes been teaching golf along with guitar for a bit. Ive been a member for 3 months or so. During 1st month his RUclips presence disappeared. Its only $10 month for all access on his site.
thanks Ryan this was great, love to see the strat.
Dude why don't you just do cover videos of you just playing the songs? You have a Marshall. Not alot of people out there doing Skynyrd covers with Marshalls. I just wanna hear the amp bro!
Nice brother! Sounds incredible!
Great stuff 🤟
Great playing Ryan, awesome teaching too. What year model is that strat, that thing sounds great
That's a Custom Shop 62 Reissue I bought around 15 years ago. Wasn't planning on buying a guitar but played it and decided it needed to come home with me.
Yes thank you 🤘🏼
To cool kid. Don't stop ever
Thanks man! Outstanding :-)
love that tone
Sweet and thanks...
Dude your guitars sound killer! Great tutorial! What’s your amp and settings in a nutshell on the Les Paul and Firebird? Would love to know! Closest to Skynyrd sound I’ve heard yet.
The Hiwatt up front is a 1969 Custom 100 and it felt a little clearer sounding on the main riff. I know they used Hiwatts a few times early on. The Marshall is a 1974 50 watt JMP. No master volume so I use the Fryette Power Station so I can stay friends with my neighbors. All the tones are straight in to the amp from guitar and I'll occasionally add a bit of Plate reverb in Protools when mixing down the version I play with the original recording. Marshall settings are Pres 10, Bass 10, Mid 10, Treb 4, Volume between 6 and 7. There's no master volume. It would sound even better if I didn't have to use the attenuator because part of the sound back then was the volume of the sound coming out of the speakers hitting the wood of the guitar and making the notes resonate and sing even further. But OW my ears.
Ryan Williams Music Awesome man. You definitely know you’re stuff. Thanks for the reply!
Hi! Can you please do a tutorial I Ain’t The One?
Nice instructions and picking too.
Killer!
Quite the guitar arsenal you have there. Sweet.
Dam cool riff
Many thanks Ryan.
Ryan, do you play in the Skynyrd cover band because that great sound should get you a couple of bucks here in there it’s amazing.
Ryan, More vids please !!!!
Shoo! That lick is tricky as hell.
You deserve 1 million of likes
You need Ed Kings "Lone Star Strat" Hot pickups, for that edgy sound he had. Run a little phaser and then your in the pocket!
I’m trying to learn Ed’s lead part but Its way over my head. 😅
Well after about 20 hours of going over and breaking the parts down. I finally got Ed’s solo down well at least about 98% of it. Lol. Your video helped with about 100% of learning it. 👍🎸.
Ed's solos are so unlike anyone else's. They are hard to learn. I have no problems with Allen or Gary's parts. Lol
Great tone
Great job
I get lost a lot of times playing solo on my guitar, but i always nail it air guitaring on made up air notes. Lmao
You are a bad man!
7 years of bad luck ,coming down on me .
It's not easy picking the best skynyrd player at all
Pretty close on the Ed King solo but I think maybe you are changing positions more than he did. Great job overall!
Do swamp music!!!
What's the model of your Strat? Thx
Custom Shop 62 Relic from 2006.
Always loved that Daphne blue with the mint pick plate and rosewood fretboard... I think it oozes class and beauty.
Ni offense, but you need a setup on your guitar. Lots of fret buzz.
Don't quit your day job😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sorry but that don't sound anything like Ed King. Maybe good for an instructional video but not even close to how Ed played😎
Thank you SO much for your very helpful comment. I look forward to watching and learning from your videos.
@@RyanWilliamsMusic ZING!
@@RyanWilliamsMusic Great Job! You sound as close to Ed as anyone else could...only Ed could sound like Ed! I looked for Jay's page to learn from him but haven't found it! :-)
