I love your "vision" for that barn to work shop and that Jeep. I also see things in a way that others wouldn't understand. That old barn has a story about the men who built it. When you refresh its soul; you'll become part of that story. Very cool.

These videos really help people like me who are interested in a wide variety of diy projects. I appreciate you taking so much time to do these videos. It is a very small consolation for the time you invest but I mean it when I say, thank you.

Love the old school way you are doing the metal fab on the Jeep, most people buy those parts as you said, but it`s a lot more satisfying to do it yourself. That top has got to be pretty rare. We always saw wooden hand made tops people would do on those for winter, never looked right.

Speaking of passive income, are there any farmers local to you that would be interested in renting your fields to plant on? That eliminates your need to maintain it, and provides another source of income.

      @thehomesteadcraftsman8975  5 лет назад +16

I’ve thought of it, financially it’s insignificant, the biggest benifit would be the upkeep of the field.

@@MarkLindsayCNC this is what my family would do with extra land. We usually did a 1/3 share-crop with farmers. But when you decide to quit you have to recover the land or it will quickly regain scrub brush, so it was only beneficial for extremely long term. We usually signed an agreement for no less than 3 to 5 years. And you also have to consider their chemical use and that the fertilizers they use cause changes the ground and what will be willing to grow there for years later. This is my personal experience.

@@thehomesteadcraftsman8975 My folks lease out their pasture to a cattle rancher for grazing to get an agricultural exemption for property tax on the non-homestead portion of their land. The lease is just enough to cover the property taxes and is adjusted as necessary. Your state might be different, but for us it's cattle, crops or managed wildlife refuge that qualify for the ag exemption. It's a hassle free way to cut costs, if it's feasible in your area.

We rent our 16 Acer plot to a family that keeps (and feeds) their cows. It's great for us, because it lets us maintain our agricultural zoning/tax exemption, and they get the benefit of not having to buy feed.

You gotta wear a mask when spraying chemicals! Also, awesome plans- looking forward to seeing all of it come together. Roof raising is an excellent idea. Bobcat w/ jackhammer attachment- save your back! New slabs in all 3 places and then throwdown vap barrier before that plywood, tongue and groove boards- you won't regret it. The level floor will be so much better especially when doing all handtool woodworking (per one of my former mentors- he pointed out that old school cabinet, furniture, piano makers always build on a level floor and should always build a table, large furniture, etc upside down (presumably on the level floor...)

Red Poppy Ranch. If you don't know who they are they are a family of 7. Heath and his wife Cedar bought over 40 acres of land in Idaho to build their dream house on. Heath is a plumber by trade and he for the greatest part built the house by himself. If you like watching RUclips videos, if you want to watch someone build a house for off grid living go over to his channel and be absolutely amazed at how hard-working this man is. He did the wiring. He did the plumbing. After watching his videos mostly what he had help with was pouring the cement. Watching him take down the maple trees was very satisfying. 🌼🐝

I like your ideas/purpose for this nice piece of land. The Jeep would be a fun project to watch if you don’t speed up your video and someone might also learn how to do a trade by watching your channel. I love the plans for your property especially leaving the tree inside your building. Nature kinda helps slow us down enough to enjoy life without thinking about making money. I think it brings joy just having a place to go to get away from work and have fun projects you like to do. I am looking forward to seeing more on this channel. I actually forgot about your channel’s name until I heard your voice and I knew exactly what channel I was going to watch it all the way through. Poison Ivy is not something I could have around my property because my son is highly allergic to it! Could you point it out on your next video? Please... Do you work out to stay in good shape or just physically work hard at your different trades? I think you may have mentioned which state you live in but I don’t recall. You do have a nice Southern accent which I enjoy listening to you speak. It reminds me of my family. I hope you return soon for some of your updates! Is your other channel on a link so I can find it? Love the property. Love the ideas (mostly). It's a huge portion of the future life, what you are proposing but you seem to be one of those I have no doubt will accomplish it.
I will share one comment on the Oak Tree. Just as you showed and mentioned how quickly the pastures will get overtaken by saplings, undergrowth and trees, I believe the Oak will create headaches quickly as it continues to grow. Water sealing it will be a chore and it's branches above the roof's may become a hassle. All in all, I could imagine you wishing you had eliminated the Oak to start w/ and all the hassles it may create as time goes on.
I've built structures that incorporate trees and am talking from my own experience. But, I will say they are cool for a while :)
Thanks for sharing. Will be along for the ride and good luck w/ it all,
    Sincerely ........................................

If you're more geared to regular maintenance and don't mind getting dirty, a set of drive-on ramps that'd be set out when needed and then stacked in a corner would do better. There's a set (If I can find the link) you can build out of 2X12s, 4 ft sections.

They are in demand right now. I want a smaller house then what I live in now. A townhouse that is tied in with a HOA. They are a pia. 650-800 sq ft range.
There are several channels that I follow where families have chosen to recycle older double-wide mobile homes. Maybe you could look into that market.

Could you make it a second level upstairs? Even more space. Play area for kids or something.

why not plant the field with wild flowers for the bees and you could make a bunch of bee hives for it. save the bees and have a gorgeous view :)
On a different note, i would watch anything you thought worthy of a video , i love them all.

(What to do with that field) I say; you should get into selfsustaing permaculture, and plant it as a "food forest." One that can supplement your family's consumption/surplus. Set it up so that it just grows and you don't have to fuss with it, harvest from it, or don't... maybe think about adding some pigs and getting an agricultural exemption (reduced property taxes are nice).

permaculture? adding pigs? have you done anything like that? From what I have seen doing something like that requires a lot of knowledge, years of time and work to get established. He doesn't live there, and adding pigs to run wild would be a disaster.

@@persebra lol... Why do people like you jump on any opportunity to neigh say... Yeah in fact I Have done things like that (that's why I made the suggestion), I'm 2 years into the process of turning my 16 Acer agriculturally zoned farm into a self sufficient "permaculture inspired" homestead... (I'm suggesting that he make it a place for his family to have as an option, the sooner you get started; the sooner you see results).
