lol watched the spelling bee last night for the first time..its actually pretty entertaining :).....the kids are soo talented!...and she definitely deserves it, u could see how emotional she was when she spelled the last word; she knew her hard work had paid off :)
She lives right up the street from me. And she goes to my school. It was really cool when the ESPN cameras came to our school about a month ago to film her in the hallways. Everyone was trying to get on camera haha.
She is a 13 year old american who has worked her butt off trying to achieve something meaningful. Celebrate the achievements of humanity, my friend, lest one day you wake up unable to face yourself in the mirror. Preconceived notions are the locks on the door to wisdom. ~Merry Browne
That's funny! When I was in second grade I was in a bee and had to spell the word "break" - or so I thought. I spelled it that way but it was supposed to be "brake." They are homophones and I forgot to ask for the definition. Unbelievable!
Indian Americans are up there every time in this competition and have won it several times in the last decade. I suggest you deal with this and be happy that immigrants are trying to better themselves in this country. You will all prosper as this happens. The Asian community is a huge plus to you!
well i don't think she would understand Hindi, she is of south Indian origin... She even knows bharathanatyam.... anyway well done kavya, way to go.... As an Indian i feel proud of you...
I like how they tell you the age of the winner, like if she was 14 that would be less impressive... If they ever let a 40 year old guy into the contest in the name of age equality, then you can go ahead and mention that, often.
yea i kinda figure dthat out by reading her last name and when she said she goes to dance classes, i guessed it would be bharatanatyam. I just said it anywayz
see, shes not all weird and super nerdy like the spelling bee champions before her. she answers her questions right and without that creepy smile and snorting like that one spelling bee girl from last year......uggghh
Such ignorant comments here. Kavya is from my hometown and goes to school not far from my home. She is studious, polite, talented and a joy. And as far as the comments about 'foreign' kids in the bee - maybe it's because parents of these backgrounds INSIST their children study and apply themselves in school, unlike a lot of WHITE AMERICAN parents (and for the record, I AM a White American)
good for here, I remember the kid last year, they gave him a word on the news and he missed it. It was like a 7 letter word... LOL, still makes me laugh
help me im going to the district it might not bee as scary than having to be i in a national one but having to be the winner of two school bees and tomorrow i have another district HHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
judge: Spell 'Bee' Kavya: Can you give it to me in a sentence please. judge: "Buzz goes the bee." Kavya: B-E-E. judge: Mmmph. Yea you got it. You win. Kavya: YEEEEEEHHHHHHAAA..... ehem. Um, yes. Thank you.
the little black kid was such a breath of fresh air.
she's very articulate and well rounded - what with the spelling, violin, dance. Looks like a pretty outstanding kid.

I agree.
Well, of course she won! Her name is harder to spell than all these words!
Somebody didn't get a job after graduating!
I got the word kavya at regionals xD I thought about it for a minute, kavia or kavya, and spelled K-A-V....... ...Y-A. Kavya.
i just wanna run in there and tell them all they are nerds
U dream of winning the spelling bee? just wow
Difficult to imagine actual adults making these kinds of idiotic ranting comments so we will assume they are just kids. Congratulations to her!!!
Memorizing a dictionary has nothing to do with smart. Skill, maybe. But not smarts.
girl and being smart ? rare ... most of them aspire to be a stripper or cheerleader .... SMART IS COOL you go girl...
Oh my goodness, would you people please stop it @_@
Anyway, congatulations to Kavya, I think she's a really nice girl. ^^

To me being the BEST SPELLER IN THE COUNTRY is a hilarious title to honor.

Dude, if you are going to fault someone on spelling, you should at least spell properly yourself. "Jealous" is how it goes.
And you can't spell jealous properly. Irony!
Ha, she's from kansas my ass
me thinks you're just jealous!!! how rude...
@hshgdxjg23 you got that right ;)
@hshgdxjg23 IM INDIAN!!!!
