Good historical look at this machine. I thank you sincerely for making this video, Justin. I learned a wealth of information I simply didn't know before viewing this film.
The bucket is actually called a "bull clam". The bucket opens by two hydraulic cylinders on each side of the back of the bucket and discharges the material from the bottom
thank you, that was a very interesting and informative video. I have a couple of questions about the machine - 1. do the 2 engines work side by side to power everything or does one move the arm and one the tracks, and 2. I know they’re metal, but are the hydraulic pipes to the drive motors not a bit vulnerable down there?
It's in surprisingly good condition for a 35 year old machine. The hydraulic pumps were clean, and the engines also look like someone has taken care of them. Any idea how many hours on her?
wow yeah the ol demags are cool. i was expecting to hear you say cummins, i didnt think cat would have their engines in one of their competitor's machines.
That is a very good question; unfortunately I don't know the correct answer for how it was setup on this machine. Some twin engine excavators were setup with a "master/assistant" where one engines controsl the system and the second engines output. As for the the hydraulic lines, sure they were vulnerable. That's why this design was done away with over time.
I wish some of these old machines you could start and demo. I love your videos.

Your welcome, glad you enjoyed and learned from it!

Excellent video
Great video. Thanks for upload
She's still in use but only runs once in a while. The days of production work for this machine are long over.

The h241 is a giant beast are you thinking of doing a documentary about the h121 h241 and h95 models in backhoe configuration in the future?

We had an H185S over here with a Cat engine in it, which actually was underpowered for the machine
very nice Justin
she is old but I bet with a bit of fix up she would still work!
" NOW lets go up on the demag" :P great video
Sure thanks! Are they smaller machines?
Yep, occasionally

spotted the cans of ether on the engine cover must have still been in use when u filmed this.
She's been well looked after. I believe this was her second owner. No idea on the hours
Is this machine parked for scrap or does it have value as a backup unit? Those 3306 engines never say die.
Cool
ok cheers
I was sent here by some canadians from facebook
when grand dad used to work on one of these shovels, his was a big smoker, dont know if it was just his or all of them were bad about that
Because some owners come from the old days when you never throw anything out haha
