I think one of the reasons why this interview is so good is because there is no audience. They never get Joel's sense of humor and make too many stupid noises

Only 3 people in the audience laughing, and somehow it feels way more genuine & impactful.

Seriously, this is probably one of the best celebrity interview I've seen in a long time. Conan should do this regularly.
It was great, but I think a large part of it was their chemistry. They get along really well and are good at both light jabs and self-deprecating humor and aren't afraid to do either in front of each other on TV.
You can't really replicate this with other people. It's hilarious in part because they get along so well and understand each others' humor.
*Miles* above any interviews Conan's done in the past probably decade, though.

Theo Vaughn does this with some guys on his podcast. Just endless roasts back and forth. It's hilarious and cool for getting newatetial to roast the boys with

This was just friends throwing knives at each other for 25 mins with one extremely wholesome moment in the middle that left them both bewildered. They then scrambled to pick up their knives again.
Well, Joel *is* known to be obsessed with knives, so it's fitting.
This was like watching two 50 something women friends at a party after a couple gins trying to have a conversation. Every word is a thinly vield streetfight

I’m two minutes in and this is EXACTLY the right vibe for McHale. I feel like I’m watching two masters trying to make each other laugh with insults. It’s not Don Rickles or Bob Newhart (whose Conan Needs a Friend podcast episode gave me the longest and biggest laugh of...tbh, almost all time), but this is a comedy death match and I’m here for it.

But truthfully, Conan is amazing no matter who he's interviewing. He has deep friendships with damn near everyone and even when he doesn't he still manages to be super funny.

This interview left me feeling like I haven't checked out enough of Joel McHale's work. I started playing this while getting ready in the morning and was not ready for how hilarious it would be. Such an awesome episode. I've shared it and watched it a few times now. I love the look Joel gives to Conan after Andy asks "Does discharge count?" So perfect.
I swear, I have never seen anybody do improv comedy as well as Conan. He is a force, once in motion. He so fluidly picks up anything you put down and makes it into a bit, and I will always admire his ability to do that.
Might want to Google Craig Ferguson then 😅

this is way super duper fun than standard conan show. also because in the standard show, the uploaded clip on youtube would be cut into super short pieces and a lot of parts are missing.

This was absolutely beautiful back and forth conversation. The dialogue was composed like a masterful symphony and flowed smoother than a vaseline river. Amazing performances by Conan, Joel and Andy respectively. Definitely earned the 4 out of 5 stars. Keep it up. 🤌🏻

LOVED THIS...NOW THAT'S A ROAST! With laughter of just 3 people in the background, this was damn funny and I don't miss the collective laughter of a full house. We love CONAN!

Hey, there are a few minutes here that didn’t air on TV...the whole section with Joel talking about the Conan bits he loved is extra. His amusement and description of the scene and Conan being genuinely pleased with it is the highlight of the interview! I’m glad I watched it here!

I have been loving Conan's in-person chemistry with guests but this has definitely been the funniest so far
this is honestly one of the most hilarious, genuine and endearing interviews i have ever seen - because they obviously are real friends who can bust chops without power plays getting involved
It's such an achievement for Conan to catch a hold of this guy because he's always streets ahead.
Whenever you reach there, he's already across a couple of streets. it's very nearly impossible.
