Honestly I would rather not be popular than be popular, I’m not saying this is 100% true but I feel like when you are popular you end up being rude and snobby and I would not want to become that in life.
This is everything that's wrong with society, your looks don't primarily make you popular, it helps but its your personality that makes you popular or not... no personality = not cool. Build some character, take some pride in the way you look, don't let anyone bully you, always stand up for yourself, be chill and learn to laugh at yourself. I was fat in highschool but was cool with everyone. Got my ass handed to me a couple times but never backed down from a fight and people will respect that. In the end "be yourself" but always work on yourself, improve every aspect of yourself not just your aesthetics, if you want a quality life.
