If you have a cheap practice amp with a closed back, an easy mod is to unscrew the back panel and play the amp this way. Careful NOT to touch any part if the amps circuitry. You'll find that the amp will have a better EQ profile and a better tone overall.
Good tips. I once took out the electronics on a cheap amp- made a larger cabinet and installed a good speaker- sounded better also.
