      I tried slippers like that and they took up too much room in my knapsack as i wear size 10. I switched to the Nufoot ballet flats from Amazon. Made of neoprene so they don't absorb anything ucky in the washroom, they just slip into a baggie when not in use. They came out of the washer beautifully and are ready for their next trip. Thanks for reminding me why I could not read Geisha, Jen!

    I’ve gotten a couple of ideas for my next long haul! An easy trash option is dog poo bags. I keep a few in my flight back and they fold so flat, they take up no room! I also collect small bags specifically for this purpose. The flight attendants appreciated it.

    • @Karideplov

      I used to used dog poop bags too but now my city gives us free composting bags. I get a large pack every 2 months so I take a few of these with me now.

      I use dog bags as well. I always have small bits of trash but seem to miss the attendants when they come around lol.
      Handing them a baggie at the end works perfectly for me.

    A collapsible mug with a screw lid was very handy to not spill drinks. It's a good idea if you do intend to try to get some sleep to buckle the seatbelt over your blankets otherwise the hostesses will wake you up when there is turbulence. We didn't take an empty water bottle with us as we intended to buy a bottle at the airport however on our return there was a massive queue and we were rushed through security and couldn't find anywhere to buy water quickly enough, but I did notice there were plenty of water taps so next time I will definitely bring an empty water bottle with me. A set of travel cutlery (plastic of course) was also very useful as my daughter dropped her cutlery on the floor and the hostesses didn't come back around for a very long time so she was able to use my travel cutlery set. A small torch as well to find things in your bag when the lights are out. Great tips thanks x

    • @margarethubbard1173
      @margarethubbard1173 2 месяца назад

      The flight attendant wouldn't have to wake me for turbulence because a) I would be awake already because I can't sleep on planes and b) if the medication for flying assistance did manage to allow for any calm restful moments, the turbulence would end that quickly. Do most long haul flights have seat back entertainment?

    • @lisaweigand524
      @lisaweigand524 Месяц назад

      Ha ha, I was scanning down and read “a small torch”🤣! But I know what you mean. The bags made by Travelon often come with clip on lights.

    @happycook6737 Год назад +5

    I fly longhaul regularly. My #1 items are disposable plastic gloves to wear to toilet and leggins + tshirt + underwear in my carry on. Why? Because if luggage doesn't arrive, stuff gets spilled on you (other passenger's vomit, turbulence during meal service, your seat is wet when you get on the airplane...😱) Sadly all of those things have happened to me.

    This was a great follow-up! So happy that you got real sleep on an airplane! Yes! Bags for trash always go into my under seat bag. I learned that when flying with little kids. Even on relatively short flights, oh the detritus they generate! I always feel mildly claustrophobic in my seat and having a nest place to put all those scraps is essential.

    I bought some foam ear protectors, you roll them up between your fingers and stick them inside the ear canal. I learned about them when I went to a gun range. They are called foam ear plugs. Nine bucks for 60 pairs. I got 38 DB, that is decibels. You can choose how strong you want them. Since I rarely sleep on a flight, I planned to roll up my sweater or jacket around my neck. I experimented with that. If you roll it up and wrap it around your neck, it secures your neck a little bit. It is also free.

      I also keep my passport in a little ziploc bag. Be sure to carry a printout of your flight verification. I went to the UK, and on leaving to go to France, in a car, at Dover, the border control guy wanted to see my flight verification. He said that every time you go through security you need to show it. Although I had a stamp in it from Heathrow already. I felt he was yanking my chain a little, but these are people with no sense of humor. I think it is a job requirement.

    I just found your channel. Did you use the bag with the magnet at your seat? We are taking our first Japan trip. Wondering if you were missing any items or which were perfect for that seat bag.

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge

      Yes I kept that at my seat and you really don't need much (or at least I don't) just my headphones, my neck pillow, my eye mask and some lip balm and moisturizer (and my water) is usually sufficient.

    You can use your phone camera (selfie mode/front camera) when you don't have a mirror.

      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  Год назад

      Yeah except for on a dark airplane you really can’t unless you have a tripod because I can’t do my makeup with one hand and there was no place to put my phone that was high enough to see my face 😂

    Could you use your camera on your phone and flip it around so it shows your face. I’ve used that many times in lieu of a mirror. Great info! Thx!

      Sadly I had nowhere to balance it that was high enough to see my face. My tripod was in my suitcase

    I literally just purchased plastic trash bags with handles that are used for diapers to take me on the plane. I hate having trash around me during a flight and have not place to place it. I know it sounds OCD. LOL

    I have a question about your liquids bag. In your packing video, you showed a clear zipped 1 gallon makeup bag that you always use for TSA pre-check. I've heard that international flights often don't accept these because they are too big (ie: Japan prefers a 1 litre bag). Did you have any trouble with it when coming home?

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge
      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  Год назад +2

      No. In fact, Japan no longer requires you to take out your liquid bag at all and security was very very fast.

    Hi! Did the neck pillow get in the way of your headphones and vice versa? That’s my hang up in buying a neck pillow. The headphones are the most important for me.

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge

      It worked beautifully and I was able to manage the Bose headphones, ridiculous eye mask AND the neck pillow. I would practice in advance 😂

    I’m flying from Western Australia to Calgary in July. Serious long haul! 😳 Currently planning my packing and carry on. Thank god we’re flying business class because we’re traveling with golf clubs. I’m looking for a travel hairdryer that will work for 110v power. My Dyson didn’t work last time with an adapter and I don’t want to carry one all that way for nothing. I’m worried I’ll get to the hotel and they’ll have a pathetic hairdryer or, my worst nightmare, one attached to the wall 😱 Should I bother taking one?

    So did you come back with any stationary? At least tell me if you visited any of the shops. Funny thing about long haul and trash. I use it as an excuse to walk the aisle, as a diabetic I make sure I get up once an hour and stretch and get a few steps in. I just take my trash to the their bins there. If they are not busy in the galley, then I walk forward and backwards, for a min or so. This is usually when people are asleep.

    Did you wind up enjoying your “extra” soft slippers for the plane? I think they sound awesome but worry they won’t really be worth the space they take up. I would love to hear your opinion.

      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  11 месяцев назад +1

      YES in fact I have another long haul flight coming up in a week and they are already in my bag. I also ended up using them in the hotel as the evenings were a little chilly and they were well worth the space!

    Do you recommend upgrading to bigger seats in the front? Is it possible to be comfortable in coach seats? We are flying from LAX to London (10 hours ) We are 72 yrs old.

    • @donnam1257
      @donnam1257 Год назад

      Upgrade! If you can, definitely upgrade. We flew business class from Boston to Paris; the flight was as much fun as the destination, and we arrived refreshed.

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge
      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  Год назад +1

      It’s a tough question to answer because obviously if the budget allows I would absolutely upgrade. Having said that I’ve done many long haul flights in economy when the budget didn’t allow and I certainly think you can be comfortable if you plan accordingly! We have a trip to Greece coming up and could spend our money in an upgraded hotel OR first class tickets but not both and we chose the hotel as that’s a lot larger percentage of our overall trip. I hope that helps!

    Did TSA have you put the creams and toothbrushes in a quart sized plastic bag?

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge
      @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge  3 месяца назад

      Most major airports now have xray machines that don't require liquids to be in a separate bag. Having said that, when I'm traveling international and won't have access to TSA pre-check, I still put my liquids in a separate clear toiletry bag.
