This area is a area where they felt safe that flat field was probably used raising corn or ground I have a few brown ones you are in a camp site were they tanned hides.. you should dig below the steps if I'm correct about it being grinding stone as they worked grinding some good items could have been dropped there..good luck Gary Morgan here..I have a stone tool that was used for a right and left baby shoe mold

Maybe steps but could be a grinding of corn or grain and sweep it off the edge into a bowl
