@RandomUser221 I visualize this sometimes, too. I think different people have more or less success thinking about it in different ways and sometimes need different coaching cues to help them focus on their own particular issues.
Bloody great advice Alan - You've done it again. Even though you've touched on this before in previous videos, it's something that amateurs (myself included) sometimes forget. Engaging the body as a whole rather than seeing compounds as isolated movements is a skill. Cheers bro!
Usually this technique/queue videos are fluffy and situational but this was amazing. Can't believe this has not be mentioned most other YT videos. We all learn super early to do compound lifts to work out the whole body/kinetic chain/more muscles but not show how we use the whole body to generate maximal force, which was the goal of compound lifts in the first place.
Great video. With the squat, you will hear, drive through your heels to come back up, but watching it being done and also adding the cue of driving the upper back into the bar brings the lift to life. Gonna use these.. thanks!
Your tag line is like nails on a chalk board to me but......I get the most practical, comprehensive and applicable advice and insight from your videos. Thanks a lot!
Every time i watch your videos I adopt a self esteem boost from gaining knowledge. I find that being briefed on form Ect. before each session is the best approach for a good day. Your videos are straight to the point, not dull, and informative. It's become a tradition for myself to watch these videos as i find I achieve PR's when going in with a mindset of better understanding. I compare you to Riptoe when it comes to the knowledge and the ability to convey that knowledge. Thanks man.
Great Alan!! As alvays I'm completly agree with this idea. This technique is also functional to increase the number of pull ups. If you think to pull down the bar to your chest while you pull ups the body, you can increase the reps or the weight.
In terms of useful, logical content presented in a well-organized manner, this is one of the best up and coming channels out there. Demos, Visuals/graphics, message clarity on point. You'll surpass a lot of this Vlogging shit going on lately.
Great video Alan. Just one thing I want to mention. When performing the bench press you suggested moving your feet BACK until your butt doesn't come off the bench when using leg drive. I do use leg drive, but I actually move my feet AWAY from the bench until my butt doesn't come off the bench when using leg drive. The idea is that I drive my heels into the floor (almost like I'm trying to slide backwards on the bench) which helps drive my shoulders into the bench through the arch in my back. Just wanted to point out that you don't HAVE to move your feet back, you can do the same thing by moving your feet forward (and I think it has the added benefit of allowing you to keep your feet flat on the ground).
I think this is one of those rare cases where the rhetorically over-the-top headline actually accurately described what it was selling. That is a monster good cue.
Hey man. just stopped by to say thank you for all the useful information you've given me. ive watched alot of your videos and improved my squat, deadlift, my posture, my back and so much more. laughed so hard i cried like a little girl at your 10,000 calories a day video! keep it up and thank you once again.
This was a very good video, I've heard these cue's many times from many lifters, but the way that was demonstrated in this video made a lot of sense. More so than some of the previous content I've been exposed to. Thanks dude
This video is awesome and I love the shirt you have on! My lifting partner was having problems with the squat (hips up, back down) and we implemented the drive the back into the bar queue and it worked wonders.
In your squat demo I think you were listening to Amon Amarth? MY MAN! Thanks for your video Alan. Really appreciate the tips. Will apply them in my deadlift session in an hour ;) (with heavy metal in my ears of course)
dude... I was stuck on my squats for a month now... I just hit a PR using this. FUCK man..thanks..cant wait to try the bench press.. also plateaued on that for a while
I'm just gonna keep watching "instantly increase your lift" videos until my 1rm is a world record!
This guy has a nice beard. I'm gonna listen to his advice.
Henry The Unicorn well yeah.
Sooooo... You hate One Direction.
u got that right ..... A new group just evolve ...
Multi -D 😊
@@armanon9225 wow
All this time I've been pushing the bar into the ground on deadlifts, who knew the cue I was missing was moving the barbell away from the floor!
Imagine the guys that have been trying to crush themselves with squats, that's a new level of suicidal. Great video though
@RandomUser221 I visualize this sometimes, too. I think different people have more or less success thinking about it in different ways and sometimes need different coaching cues to help them focus on their own particular issues.
This is one of Allan's best and most important videos.
another tip that helped my bench for STRENGTH is to imagine like youre throwing the bar through the ceiling
MrTopG another tip I thought of was to do that but I told some one to do that and they hyper extended their elbows and fucked everything up
You never see people making videos like this. My hats off to you alan, even though i don't wear hats

I just hunted for this video to send to a friend who has been training for a bit but not happy with he's progress. Your channel is a gem.

Man i always wait for the end of your videos.. TRAIN UNTAMED... Can't agree more.. It was bench press today and man it was a killer for me !

One of the best tutorials here on youtube! Very competent, funny, and clearly spoken! Thank you for the videos!

Great fundamental cues Alan! People need this full body and multi-directional perspective
Just came back to say thanks, Alan. This improved my squat a ton.
I encourage all lifters, bodybuilder, powerlifter , strongman or whatever to see Alan Thrall's videos, there are very instructive
I BET THAN WHEN YOU WRITE SOMETHING, YOU WRITE IT WITH CAPS. THAT VOICE IS SOOO DEEP MAN.
Nice video btw
Another tip to instantly lift more weight, listen to death fucking metal!!!!
I think this is one of those rare cases where the rhetorically over-the-top headline actually accurately described what it was selling. That is a monster good cue.
This instantly increased my bench strength. Great video man. I have to share this!
awesome stuff man. first thing I learn as a teenage at the YMCA Olympic weight lifting team was to push my feet through the floor.
Hey man. just stopped by to say thank you for all the useful information you've given me. ive watched alot of your videos and improved my squat, deadlift, my posture, my back and so much more. laughed so hard i cried like a little girl at your 10,000 calories a day video! keep it up and thank you once again.
this is a great video showing how people are not doing 100%wrong but not 100%right, the sad thing is some people will still not listen for some reason
very very great tips. hard to input into your training at first but if you keep at it you will get it.
3:40 twilight of the thunder god!! On my training playlist for heavy squats and deadlifts
clear and simple explanation everybody can understand, that's what I like!
This was a very good video, I've heard these cue's many times from many lifters, but the way that was demonstrated in this video made a lot of sense. More so than some of the previous content I've been exposed to. Thanks dude
3 years ago. Squats were going down past 90 degrees. Deadlift was only 4 plates on each side. Wow man, such improvement

The best mental cue I've got to do this for the deadlift is to focus on straightening your legs as fast as possible once you get it off the ground
mate,ur the best. post sooner next time.
This video is awesome and I love the shirt you have on! My lifting partner was having problems with the squat (hips up, back down) and we implemented the drive the back into the bar queue and it worked wonders.
Wow most useful mental video ever thanks ALAN. That type of mentality will actually make my deadlifts more fun/
I would usually make fun of a powerlifters squat (lame snorton) but you really squat.Your the only powerliftet worth a sub.
