A couple cameos in this: the sheriff on TV in an early broadcast advising people to shoot the zombies in the head was Tom Savini, legendary special effects wizard in Hollywood. He did the effects for the original Dawn of the Dead, and continued working on Romero's Dead series of movies thereafter (he also had a bit part in the original Dawn of the Dead as one of the biker gang who invades the mall late in the movie, and shows up as a zombified version of the same character in the later film Land of the Dead (2005)). He also directed a remake of Night of the Living Dead (1990). The preacher on TV who utters the famous line "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth" was none other than Ken Foree, who played one of the main characters, Peter, in the original Dawn of the Dead (he was one of the last survivors at the end of the movie). The line itself was actually from the original movie as well, also uttered by him.
One of my favorite bits of trivia about this film: When Ana (Sarah Polley) is stitching up Kenneth's (Ving Rhames) arm, Sarah actually ran the needle through the prosthetic skin and right into Ving's skin. Ever the professional, Ving said NOTHING and they filmed the scene. It wasn't until after they called "Cut" did Ving reveal that Sarah had sewn the prosthetic piece to his arm.
Fun fact: This was filmed in something called a "mall." It was a place you would drive to and just hang out when you had nothing to do. You could also buy things.
They filmed this at Thornhill Square Mall north of Toronto and I used to ride the bus by there on my way to work during filming. They had black tarps draped over the parking garage window openings so they could film that sequence during the day to mimic night. The mall was scheduled to be demolished so they were free to do pretty much whatever they pleased during filming. I really liked this movie and still feel that it's Zack Snyder's best movie.
Could you imagine being in a mall full of everything you need well besides a pharmacy for emergency medications. It would be so much fun. At first I thought he was talking about Waukesha Wisconsin bc he said Waukesha county

In a humorous twist, this was directed by Zack Snyder, who would go on to create the DC Cinematic Universe and was written by James Gunn, who would take over the DC Cinematic Universe after Synder was pushed out the door by Warner Bros and his successors subsequently ran the franchise into the ground. Zack Synder said that at the time of production, they reached out the dozens and dozens of companies to allow them to feature their stores in the mall and only Panasonic agreed to let them create an electronics store around their brand, so all the stores you see in the movie are fake versions of the real thing. His goal was to have everyone meet at Starbucks, but since Starbucks refused to let them use their likeness, they created their own coffee shop called "Hallowed Grounds." Also, one of the stores in the mall, "Gaylen Ross" was named after the actress from the original Dawn of the Dead. And the preacher who talks about how when Hell is full, the dead will walk the earth... that was Ken Foree from the original Dawn of the Dead doing a cameo.
Im more of a fan of the original ('78) but this ones good. definitely looking forward to the reaction. Thank you for all the entertaining videos. Peace n love, y'all

Many thanks to Asia & BJ! 🧟♀ It's interesting that you're starting with this one. It's a remake of a sequel to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968). The original DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) was one of my favorites as a kid. I like this one, too. #ReelinWithAsiaAndBj #ZackSnyder #DawnOfTheDead
I love this film for Sarah Polley alone. She deserved so many more movies. This is one of the best remakes of all time. Great horror movie & great reaction from u guys :)
As fun as this was, absolutely nothing compares to the societal breakdown shown in the first ten minutes of the original by George Romero. Plus the whole ending with a three way war between the main characters, and army of marauding bikers, and a horde of zombies inside a shopping mall is just something that I don’t feel can ever be replicated.
There's also a boon in having a smaller cast. With the remake there are a lot of "Red shirts" who you know/suspect are going to die and then just don't care. More time to develop characters in the OG.
I grew up watching the double tape vhs of DOTD , my father's favorite. I still think it's the best beginning to a horror film. Like you said, perfect depiction of things rapidly decaying, then you get that juxtaposed with the hillbillies all celebrating killing zombies like a big party not realizing they are already doomed, they just don't know it yet.
@@creasefold1986 Actually George Romero commented on the hillbillies in the director's commentary to the Dawn of the Dead DVD. He said he wanted to show that the hillbillies were actually surviving and thriving while the rest of the world goes to hell. I was 8 in 1968. My friend and I saw Night of the Living Dead in a triple feature. When we walked home it was dark and we passed a small church cemetery….we both would have left Usain Bolt in the dust as we ripped home like Speedy Gonzalez 😂
Once in a while when weird stuff happens in the news I think about what that Priest said on TV. "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the Earth." I loved all the actors in this movie. The two I recognized were in Pulp Fiction.
BJ:You better care about Chip lol This movie is in my top 5 favorite movies. Great actors and suspense from beginning to end. Loved it when BJ said "He ain't go no legs" LMAO I was dead then 😂
It's great you were talking about all the glass doors. The original film addressed this. The original actually addressed alot of things. Plus there was cameos from the original in this film on the TV broadcasts. My issue is they didn't attempt to fire aline across the zombies to get a rope or zip line for food for Andy. They had the high ground and hardware/sports stores.. could have shot an arrow with 100lb test fish line.
This movie proved that Shotguns and Light Machine Guns ( soldiers in the intro ) are the best weapons in a zombie apocalypse , Ving Rhymes and CJ had the highest kill count of the crew.
When BJ said they saw this movie on a date, I wondered how old these two were. Then, when the movie started and it was in color , I realized I was confusing this movie with, "Night of the Living Dead", an older movie of this type from 1968.
George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" 1968 was the first one in BW. Then Romero followed up with a sequel "Dawn of the Dead" 1978. This movie "Dawn of the Dead" 2004 is the remake of that sequel 🙂
@@logik200plus NOTLD was remade in 1990, the remake was actually pretty good and made a few improvements to the original (namely making the zombies look better, making them bite their victims, and making the Barbra a much better character)
This one of the best remakes ever made. I've watched the original since I was a kid, it's a classic, but they did an AMAZING job woth this remake. I love this film! It's a modern classic based on an already amazing film! Zombie horror at it's finest!! ❤️ 🎃🧡
One of the things I love most about this one is that if you pay attention you will notice that the zombies slowly become more and more decayed over the course of the movie. I am convinced that if they had just stayed put where they were with their abundant supplies that in time they would have out lasted the zombies. All they had to do was wait them out.
They actually kinda touch on that with the generator sequence. The problem was, they were going to run out of fuel for power along with ammo soon. Not to mention food. The uncut version pretty much implies they're also going to starve past a certain date. And that's if the zombies didn't break in at some point.
The juxtaposition of Asia celebrating "i made it (watching) through the whole movie this time" as the last of the group in the movie are being killed, was funny ah. 😂
This is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. Story telling, special effects, drama. Very very well done. The evil dead series being my number one and this movie being my number 2. Just so good. Even the original version is amazing.
My favorite part of this movie is when the head of the CDC is answering questions in a press conference about what's going on and following them up with 'We don't know.' When a government official is out of options, you are guaranteed screwed.
People always speculate about the characters ion this movie and if they could have survived, if they should have stayed, etc. In truth, they absolutely could have stayed and survived IF they took preparations right away, rather than living hedonistically for days-weeks before supplies began to dwindle, morale had sunk, they began turning on one another, Andy was emaciated, and the mass of zombies outside had grown past survivability. They had a naturally hidden position near roadway and water, it was multi storied, already empty and locked down, it was supplied with food, had running water, electricity and a generator and gas, bedding, propane, tools, batteries, medical supplies, and across the parking lot, an arsenal. Their personnel was ideal for survival. They had medical expertise with Anna, police training with Kenneth, security (possibly military) training with CJ, automotive, Andy as a sharpshooter/marksman, mechanical and technical machinery knowledge (possible agricultural as well) between Tucker and Norma, and Michael was a level headed co-leader with Kenneth, and you even have enough mixed gendered people of breeding age to repopulate. Had Andre not started going down the wrong path due to his wife and baby's situation, and Steve not been a selfish/useless dick, and Bart an idiot, you'd have had 7 men of fighting age (not counting Andy), along with Tucker who was still capable with a firearm, all armed with firearms which is a very, very strong unit. Had they immediately began preparation for breach (secondary fallback points), agriculture on the roof (very easily done), rationed the food supplies, had emergency evacuation plans, and used Andy's arsenal wisely, they could have held up there for well over a year, or had a wiser, safer means of escape if/when needed. Instead, they played games, had sex, watched movies, became disjointed and basically found themselves in a situation where they were purely reactionary and stupid. If they could have re-spawned too day one and had a do-over, their chances of survival would be very good.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those that have a zombie plan and those that do not. That second group can also be referred to as 'lunch'.
I'd forgotten what good fun this movie is, poor Asia's blankie certainly got a workout. Like 'The Night of the Living Dead' [1968] it influenced a lot that came later in movies, games and shows. Another classic of survival under siege you guys might like is 'Assault on Precinct 13' [1976].
fun fact: Zack Synder decided to work on a Superman movie, so they cancelled the sequel supposedly called "Island of the Dead". It was confirmed later that the main cast survived. The supposed sequel was rumored to inspire the game "Dead Island".
Please watch Wes Craven's "The People Under the Stairs" next! It's the first movie I saw Ving Rhames in. It's from the early 90s, it's creepy, and twisted, and SO much freaking fun! Also...I love that you guys have been together so long, especially nowadays. Love you guys 🖤
You should totally react to some Ice Nine Kills! Most of their songs are about the horror movies! They just dropped "meat and greet"! And "meat and greet pt2"! These songs are about silence of the lambs! The song "ex mortis" is about the movie the evil dead! You should check this one out first! It's a fun song! You'll love it! They also have the American nightmare! This one is about a nightmare on elm Street! Another one of my favs! Plus, they have a bunch more! I just went to see them in concert with falling in reverse! Such a great show!
Every time I'm in Costco, I think to myself if a zombie apocalypse ever happened, I'd head straight here. Food, a pharmacy, mattresses, metal overhead doors...hell yeah.
My favorite Zombie film. *28 Days Later* comes close, although for me, that's more of a sub-genre _The Infected_ type of film (they don't actually die and resurrect).
I loved watching the DVD extras, learning that the old lady in the wheel barrel was a dude in a wig. 😆 And Andy's video while at his gun shop was funny and sad.
Best zombie movie ever made. It's the 1st zombie flick where the zombies actually are actually quick. Which is so much scarier than zombies just walking extremely slowly.

Happy Anniversary Asia & BJ! 💕😊💕
Once in a while when weird stuff happens in the news I think about what that Priest said on TV. "When there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the Earth." I loved all the actors in this movie. The two I recognized were in Pulp Fiction.
Love the cameos from the first one that came out in the 70s
BJ:You better care about Chip lol This movie is in my top 5 favorite movies. Great actors and suspense from beginning to end. Loved it when BJ said "He ain't go no legs" LMAO I was dead then 😂
This is prolly the best zombie movie ever made!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤
My favorite is The Return of The Living Dead and the original Dawn of the Dead 🤌🏽😊
its hard to go wrong with those!@@CaramelPrincess1990
Train to Busan was pretty good.
28 days/weeks were also great movies. But not considered zombies because they were infected with the rage virus and the would starve. Zombies dont
The distance was too much for a zip line
I friggin' LOVE this remake! Fun fact: This movie was the directorial debut of Zack Snyder.
Fun Fact, the black dude on the TV screen at 15:12 in this video was in the original Dawn of the Dead 1978 his name is Ken Foree.
This movie proved that Shotguns and Light Machine Guns ( soldiers in the intro ) are the best weapons in a zombie apocalypse , Ving Rhymes and CJ had the highest kill count of the crew.
one of the movies that resurrected the zombie genre. the additional shorts on the disc were also good.
Romero's classic version is a part of the Zombie Trilogy..Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn of The Dead and Day Of The Dead.
I think day was better than dawn. Both good movies but day edges it out
all great movies in their own way
When BJ said they saw this movie on a date, I wondered how old these two were.
@@logik200 I just saw the first one at the drive in movie.
@@AmatureAstronomer NICE!!! The original is a timeless classic!
in the extras on the dvd they have a short segment showing andy's side of things from across the street in a diary format .its pretty cool
Asia and her screams are what make the reaction better ❤😂
The DVD extras include a video diary that Andy recorded.
This is a really great remake, love it! The O.G. version is right here on YT i think 🤔!
Y'all gotta see the original Dawn of the Dead 1978 ... Then ..DAY OF THE DEAD 1985.. I'm subscribing to y'all Patreon...
I saw the original in a theater back in 1978, they also had a sneak preview of the Warriors!
I like to believe they made it. They’re survivors, they’ve toughened up
This is easily one of my favorite movies of all time.
This movie was a terrific example of what _NOT_ to do when things make a turn for the worst, zombies or not.
6:08 A little movie magic. This shot was actually filmed about 2 houses down from her original house.
I think the cop is Marcellas Wallis from Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994) and here 10 yrs later he plays in this and he didn't even aged much, damn.
The thing about survival is movement and resources. They trained us in the military for that exact reason. Stay alive. By all means. Stay alive.
So cool that this was y’all’s first movie together!! I’d love to see a photo of the two of you back then! Love your reactions SO much!!!
I've been watching u guys for (I think) 2 years. My lady used to make fun of me and now she's here watching with me lol. Thank u for all u do.
I used to put this on whenever I moved to a new place. It became my New Room theme.
Really fun fact. This movie was a remake. The original did not have these fast zombies.
fun fact: Zack Synder decided to work on a Superman movie, so they cancelled the sequel supposedly called "Island of the Dead". It was confirmed later that the main cast survived. The supposed sequel was rumored to inspire the game "Dead Island".
Remind me NEVER to be in any kind of horror survival scenario with Asia….
“Okay…. BYE!!!”👋🏾
😂
I ain’t doing that 😂😂
The guy on the tv saying "When there is no more room in hell, the dead will rise again"? He is from the original 1978 movie. That's Ken Foree
Great fucking movie , just brought back a childhood favorite
You should totally react to some Ice Nine Kills! Most of their songs are about the horror movies! They just dropped "meat and greet"! And "meat and greet pt2"! These songs are about silence of the lambs! The song "ex mortis" is about the movie the evil dead! You should check this one out first! It's a fun song! You'll love it! They also have the American nightmare! This one is about a nightmare on elm Street! Another one of my favs! Plus, they have a bunch more! I just went to see them in concert with falling in reverse! Such a great show!
i have always liked the opening action scences when chaos first breaks out in the neighborhood
My favorite song: "Get up come on get down with the sickness."
I would also recommend Zombieland I and II if you haven't seen them yet, both pretty funny. 'Shaun of the Dead' is pretty good also.
I like how Asia has her blanket over her head...not taking any chances with them zombies lurking about..lol!😁
You guys need to watch George Romero’s masterpieces in order. ‘Night of the Living Dead’ ‘Dawn of the Dead ‘ and ‘Day of the Dead’.😎😁
This the original or remake? Either way loved them both. I like how a few of the actors from the original had cameos in the remake.
The remake, obviously. The remake is way better imo.
I loved watching the DVD extras, learning that the old lady in the wheel barrel was a dude in a wig. 😆 And Andy's video while at his gun shop was funny and sad.
Still remember watching this for the first time.
I watched while cooking and so I missed the ending. 😅
Discovered later no one survived.
Helicopter at beginning was originally the one from original one
Dang y’all been together for a long time if this movie was y’all first date. I’ve never found love in 34 yrs, but y’all’s relationship is goals.
Best zombie movie ever made. It's the 1st zombie flick where the zombies actually are actually quick. Which is so much scarier than zombies just walking extremely slowly.
Asia, the Zombies/Walkers/Empties/Biters/Ragers gone be ripping themselves out the plastic, acting like they brand new?? HAHAHAHAHA...

BJ just scored more cool points for taking Asia to a horror movie on their first date. I did the same thing once, but it didn't turn out good. So score even more cool points for making it turn out for BJ and Asia.
Always fun watching you 2 😅. Interesting points, the sheriff on tv was tom savini, he was in the original, the general on tv was scott renniger, one of the original cast members, the preacher on tv was ken foree, also a original cast member, lastly, the beauty salon was named galen ross, after the original cast members name.
I wish I had more spare income and I would be a patron. You guys always give me great company while I unwind from work!
CJ went out like a boss he went from zero to hero.

Such a fun watch. The 1978 Romero's original is also a great watch. Im with u, if I had an entire mall, pretty well secured, ways to grow food (garden dept and seeds from produce), build more security to the place (from hardware sec), had electric, water and beds. Im not going anywhere. Really enjoyed. Thanx so much, take care, Peace
“He look like a unicorn” 😂 ahh Ty.
