Question: Would it be faster to do small mech the first time you get the mech suit to skip the first required battle? Also, can you small mech the second gary fight by going back to the previous save?

You could do small mech the first arena fight but you can't get out of the vertical transition in the next room because you're too small lol. Optimally you'd get what I call "Mech" which is 1 frame after small mech - it gives you the cutscene skipping property of small mech but in a normal sized mech. Small mech might save time if done perfectly, but it would be a very small amount, so I choose not to go for either since I already reset over so many other things I preferred the consistency.
If we could skip Gary 2 entirely with small mech it would be worth it, but the door is still closed unfortunately.

Do you know about skip mech? Kind of like small mech, but requires less accuracy. Jump out before save (at first check point, for example) and move on. The mech isn't smaller, but you will still skip combat scenes. I've been doing it on my runs, but you can extend the WR a bit by a second that first fought.

I call that one "Mech" because it isn't small lol. I've thought about doing that on the first fight but it's way harder for me to get than small mech. If you do that in runs you're a beast
