Old man needs to be higher, like #2. Rockin in the free world also needs to be higher. Heart of Gold is #1. Ohio is criminally underrated and should be top 10.
Me 2 my dad loved Neil young he introduced me to his music when I was a kid he passed away last year every time I hear him I just think of my dad and cry
"After the Gold Rush" took the top spot? Like, I'm not saying it's a bad sign or anything, but that's an odd choice for #1. I think "Down by the River" and "Cortez the Killer" both deserved to be on the list, as opposed to honourable mentions.
I saw Neil Young 5 times in the 60's and 70's from Woodstock to the Fillmore East to Carnegie Hall and every time he was just amazing. i love Neil Young.
It amazes me how many songs Neil Young has and yet he doesn't have a song I can't enjoy while listening to. Neil Young is an artist that after you love him, you love him your whole life.
"After the gold rush" is such a beautiful song. Good imagery and thought provoking lyrics. With a good past- present- future format. Great list great artist. Btw check out "Long May you run" very underrated song about his old car. We all have that one car we got rid of that was filled with memories and joy.
Whoah, I REALLY expected "Old Man" to be no.1. Also really great song by Neil (and my favourite) is "A man needs a maid". This song is full of sad feelings and the melody is really stunning.
Soo many great songs by this musical genius it was gonna be impossible to get everything on this list. Songs that also could have been included for me: Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Long May You Run, Harvest Moon, and It's A Dream.
We're at the 50th anniversary of the KSU shooting. All you people gonna wanna lift this song up in commemoration. S'okay, go ahead. Just remember that Neil made money from this song. Yes, he profited from the deaths of American students. Were you alive when Kent went down? I was. If you weren't, STFU. You have NO idea what the reality of that day is.
@@ignatiusdemonseed Based on that logic every protest song ever made falls into the category. Dylan wrote Hurricane did he profit off Rubin Carter? Poor logic and yes I was alive and live near KSU now.
my top 10 1. Cortez the Killer 2. Hey Hey, My My 3. On the Beach 4. Heart of Gold 5. Down By the River 6. Ambulance Blues 7. Cowgirl in the Sand 8. Southern Man 9. Old Man 10. Tell Me Why
Cool! A pleasant surprise--"After the Gold Rush" has always been my favorite! Guess it's just nice to find agreement sometimes! Lots of great songs on the list, and outside of it.
Great list. Any 10 songs by Neil Young would have been great, but I love this selection. It was hard to guess which song would come up next. I was momentarily a bit frustrated when After the Gold Rush, my favorite Young song, didn't show up even in the Honorable Mentions list ... and then the first piano notes came up. Great selection.
Quick question: What's the source of that clip? All of the live versions I've found say "...twentieth Century" or even "... nineteen eighties". This one has the original "...Look at Mother Nature on the run in the nineteen seven-ties."
I have always been a Neil Young fan... his Harvest and Heart of Gold era songs were what was playing on my cars sound system when I traveled the Country "finding myself "
My top 10 Neil Young songs: 1. Danger Bird 2. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere 3. Throw Your Hatred Down 4. Philadelphia 5. Like a Hurricane 6. Unknown Legend 7. Birds 8. Will to Love 9. Cripple Creek Ferry 10. Cowgirl in the Sand
I found “Gold Rush” to be unsettling, even to this day. Neil Young is a great performer. I saw the vlog of "Heart Of Gold" and just kept hitting the repeat. Sweet.
I am very pleased you included LIKE A HURRICANE as it had no commercial appeal, (too long). Writing you from that sleepy little town in Ontario, it is a favourite of many Neil fans I know. It is #2 on my list, the 1st being A Man Needs a Maid. Good job MOJO!
I realize this videos a year old, but where can I find the footage for most of the songs here, where he's wearing the white shirt( hey hey my my, after the gold rush, powder finger, etc) is it the rust never sleeps/ live rust movie-thing?
Neil has put out varied and usually awesome music since I was in high school ( now 63 ) and it would be difficult to choose 10 for me. We all have a song that takes us back to some memorable event .... and those cant be beat. ( It also depends on if you play guitar or not ) Neil young has written the soundtrack for my life. Thrasher , comes a time , long may you run , old man , campaigner , four strong winds , southern man and anything from " After the gold rush " .
Top 10 rockers: 1. Cowgirl in the Sand, 2. Hey Hey My My (Into the Black), 3. Southern Man, 4. Like a Hurricane (Weld version), 5. Cinnamon Girl, 6. Down By the River, 7. Powderfinger, 8. She's Always Dancing, 9. Cortez the Killer, 10. Tonight's the Night (Part 2). Top 10 non-rockers: 1. Thrasher, 2. Helpless (Last Waltz), 3. Birds, 4. For the Turnstiles, 5. Pocahontas, 6. After the Goldrush, 7. The Needle and the Damage Done, 8. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, 9. Heart of Gold, 10. Don't Let It Bring You Down
Thanks for this video! My mom works for Neil's manager and she actually sees him quite often. I've personally never met him but my mom says he's nice and that he loves her huevos rancheros.
Songs not mentioned but definitely should not be overlooked: Tonight is the night Tell me why A man needs a maid Pocahontas Philadelphia Thrasher Driveby Don't spook the horse From Hank to Hendrix After the gold rush Harvest Moon Journey through the past Unknown legend Are you passionate? THE WHOLE ALBUM ......From a die-hard Neil Young fan. Neil Young's songs could always ease my mind.🥰🥰🥰
Great list. I never realized how much Neil Young has been part of my life. He has always been proof that chart success does not always equal greatness. And I agree completely with #1.
I've listened to Neil for over 30 years. Have more than 20 albums by him. He has so much great music, but I think "Down by the River" should be number one.
Man, they just don't write songs like Rockin' In The Free World anymore. I wish something that deep yet so thrashy could break into the mainstream, but instead we have to deal with songs like Old Town Road and You Need To Calm Down topping the charts instead. How far have we fallen? My second favorite Neil Young song is Down By The River, in my mind it perfectly encapsulates what life might be like for the small minority of people living in the sticks.
Harvest Moon and Philadelphia are the two songs that'll make me cry like a big baby. Could have at least put Harvest Moon on the list, even as an honorable mention. Such a beautiful song, it is.
10. Rockin' in the free world 9. From Hank to Hendrix 8. Needle and the Damage done 7. Cinamon Girl 6. Like a Hurricane 5. Burned 4. Helpless 3. Unknown ledgend 2. Heart of Gold 1. After the Goldrush
The live 4 way street version of "Southern Man" with csn is my favorite live track ever! I can't believe "Ohio" didn't make the list, but there are so many great songs it's impossible to only pick ten.
A lot of people misunderstand the Sweet Home thing. Lynyrd Skynyrd were fans of Young, they just felt that southern man was labeling all people in the south as racist, as opposed to the minority. There isn't any bad blood between the two and the whole "feud" was made up by the media.
I literally cannot believe that the song "Harvest" or ANY song from "Harvest Moon" isn't on here... "Harvest", "From Hank to Hendrix", "Dreamin Man", "Unknown Legend", "Natural Beauty", and "Harvest Moon" are my absolute favorites. I really can't believe none of them are on here. 😩
My top ten in alphabetical order A man needs a maid Bound for glory Field of opportunity Hank to Hendrix I am a child Long may you run Powderfinger Sugar mountain This old house Thrasher
#10 Cortez the Killer #9 Ohio #8 Heart of Gold #7 This Notes For You #6 Hey Hey My My #5 Cinnamon Girl #4 Southern Man #3 Old Man #2 The Needle and the Damaged Done #1 Rockin' In The Free World
"Like a Hurricane" number one for me. Two of the best guitar solos ever in one song.
Two of the best guitar solos ever- RECORDED in rock history. Period !!!
Amen
Imo Neil Young is the most underappreciated artist of all time. He has a following of course but I think he deserves so much more recognition
100% agreed my friend
He's a living god
+John "Mad Jack" Churchill yup
+pongrocks12 I hope he lives for ever

Harvest Moon for me
Harvest Moon should be in the top 5 at least, not even in the hon mentions tho'
I swoon over Harvest Moon!
Good call.
"Don't Let It Bring You Down" should be there.
Neil’s albums from 69-78 are quite possibly the greatest run of form an artist has ever been on
Harvest Moon is one of my favorite Neil Young songs. Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton's rendition of After the Gold Rush is stunning.
Neil Young could say "fuck it" and do any genre music and make it sound good... And his music speaks for it's self... Folk, Rock, Country, Jazz, etc
This was my favorite Top 10 so far. I watched it twice just to hear the music again.
Old man needs to be higher, like #2. Rockin in the free world also needs to be higher. Heart of Gold is #1. Ohio is criminally underrated and should be top 10.
SympathyForTheDevil17 couldn’t agree more
after the gold rush is my favorite song of all time it makes me cry every time i hear it for reasons....

I've always like Neil Young songs, but never owned any. Just gone on to iTunes and found his greatest hits album for £5.99.
Fantastic!
+Josh Thomson Also On The Beach should have at least been an honorable mention.. "The world is turning.. hope it don't turn away"
The honorable mention could have gone for a super long time. he has such a long list of greats. Immortal act
"After the gold rush" is such a beautiful song. Good imagery and thought provoking lyrics. With a good past- present- future format. Great list great artist.
Btw check out "Long May you run" very underrated song about his old car. We all have that one car we got rid of that was filled with memories and joy.
Really should have included something from On the Beach, at least in the honorable mentions.
Hey hey my my and keep on rockin are top 3 no question. The lyrics and the mood in those songs are unparalleled.
Rockin' in the free world is the # one for me
Whoah, I REALLY expected "Old Man" to be no.1. Also really great song by Neil (and my favourite) is "A man needs a maid". This song is full of sad feelings and the melody is really stunning.

Ohio may have been one of the most influential songs of its time, it should’ve been higher up
Nothing from On the Beach? Motion Pictures, Ambulance Blues and the title track are masterpieces.
Steven
They definitely are, but hardly anyone's heard of 'em . . .
Deep cuts that were great. There's too many iconic Neil Young songs to fit into a Top 10
Revolution blues is the shit
inflamed scrote Damn straight. I discovered On The Beach way too late. Revolution Blues blew me away
I know it’s probably not a top 10 hit, but I really enjoy “Walk On”.
Soo many great songs by this musical genius it was gonna be impossible to get everything on this list. Songs that also could have been included for me: Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Long May You Run, Harvest Moon, and It's A Dream.
Ohio should have been in Top 10
Vinod Sobale Not only should it have been in the top 10, it should have been #1.
Vinod Sobale Agreed!
Yep, Neil profiting from the deaths of innocent American students. Big hit. *eye roll*
We're at the 50th anniversary of the KSU shooting. All you people gonna wanna lift this song up in commemoration.
S'okay, go ahead.
Just remember that Neil made money from this song. Yes, he profited from the deaths of American students.

Neil is definitely one of Canada's greatest contributions to the music industry
Thrasher is the greatest Neil song.
Yes! Those listed on the Top 10 are great. But "Thrasher" is an otherworldly masterpiece, and in my Top 3 all-time.
Love Thrasher and Pocahontas! Neil is a living legend
Oh heck yes. Masterpiece.
Cowgirl in the Sand is my Favorite

Old Man, all the way.
Cool! A pleasant surprise--"After the Gold Rush" has always been my favorite! Guess it's just nice to find agreement sometimes! Lots of great songs on the list, and outside of it.
No mention of "For What It's Worth"? Really? Wasn't that one of his most popular songs in Buffalo Springfield.
Ashton Stevens Oh yeah, fair enough.
It was more of a Stephen Stills song, but it still could've gotten an honorable mention
Yeah, not his song. Stephen Stills wrote it. Neil played the electric guitar on it. Not even an honorable mention.
wasn´t it written by Stills?
I know one of my favorites!!
Neil Young one of Canada's great treasures.

Such a talented and honest songwriter, greatest of all time possibly

I found “Gold Rush” to be unsettling, even to this day. Neil Young is a great performer. I saw the vlog of "Heart Of Gold" and just kept hitting the repeat. Sweet.
Never heard of any of these
Helpless and Old Man should have been higher. Although i like how you were equal with rock and folk side.
After Joe Rogan - an alternative for all Niel fans - Gerry Rafferty…just go and listen…
I'd just as soon listen to my toilet flush than Neil Young after this shit he pulled. NO CLICKS FROM ME.
I realize this videos a year old, but where can I find the footage for most of the songs here, where he's wearing the white shirt( hey hey my my, after the gold rush, powder finger, etc) is it the rust never sleeps/ live rust movie-thing?
Yes rust never sleeps great film check it out
Neil's Dead Man Soundtrack is COMPLETELY BADASS
a southern man dont need him around anyhow

Opening track from Harvest (1972) deserved a mention. Amazing song. Also, Ambulance Blues. My favourite Neil song.
Harvest Moon is my favourite Neil Young song and Album. I love all Neil Young albums though. Natural Beauty is great and sample and hold
you got it wrong. It's not an acoustic version of My MY HEY HEY. It's HEY HEY MY MY

Joshua Hawkins yeah I was about to say that

Those songs are all great, but my favorite Young song is still Razor Love.
Hayden Blakeney Silver and gold underrated album.
My personnal favourites are down by the river and cowgirl in the sand but it's hard to make a top 10 out of Neil young songs and make everyone happy.
The discarded track from the finest blues album ever. Ordinary People, what an epic Young track.
