    The compressor is parasitic: it takes power from the engine via gears; it uses the engine’s lubricating system; the engine’s air intake and filtration; and in some cases its cooling system. For the purposes of a road test, students must conduct a compressor or build up test. The compressor must be capable of building a set volume of air in a fixed amount of time with engine at a high idle (1000-1200rpm).
    Good luck on your road test!

    Hi, I'm Denis and I would like to tell you an information about the compressor test in Quebec. We do have a compressor test from a long time ago. We just don't do it the same way you showed it. We need to raise the pressure to 90 psi and then push the service brake pedal to make sure it can hold a minimum of 90 psi. I'm a trainer in a gouvernement school for road transportation training.
    You do a good job with these videos, keep it up!!!

      Hi Denis - thank you for your comment and great information. When you hold the service brake pedal at 90psi, is there a time limit on how long the system has to hold that pressure? And when you do the service brake test of ensuring that the compressor can hold 90psi, are the parking brakes released? Thank you so much for your comment and great information. All the best, Cheers Rick

    • @dhoule2
      @dhoule2 7 лет назад +1

      Hi Rick, there is no specific time you need to hold the service brake. As soon as the pressure hold 90 psi and usually it goes up, your test is considered positive. The system is under pressure when you hold the foot valve, so if the compressor can't hold 90 psi you will start to be in trouble. And of course you need to release the parking brake when you do this test. Thank you.

      @@smartdrivetest Hey Rick, thanks for the response. As for possible drivers training schools, I'm considering the major companies. Swift, CRST, and McKinney. I have a few reservations, yet, I know if I pay out of pocket at a local school, finding a job may be difficult because of lack of experience and Insurance. Any thoughts or recommendations?

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 лет назад

      Hi Marv Redd - Thank you for your response. I think that there are some pros and cons to each approach to the entering a career as a driver. Still, these bigger companies offer you a job and mentoring at the end of your training which is something that will make working as a truck driver significantly easier. Getting your license through one of the big carriers is my counsel because there is so much to learn after you get your license. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

      @@smartdrivetest thanks for getting back Rick. I'm located in California; the plan is to take and pass the CDL permit exam March 8th. Studying is coming along well. I've read through the CA booklet a couple of times since last year. You know how life can be!
      Anyway, I'm taking notes this time around on Sections: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 11 (are those correct?).
      Question: Am I to know the Static or Applied Leakage test? A little confused by the handbook, in one of your videos I believe you described the static test. Thanks again for responding.

      Hi Candice - I spoke with the guys at Kenworth here in Vernon. Is there a possibility that truck has hydraulic brakes? Is there a master cylinder up on the firewall right in front of the steering wheel? Let me know. 80) Cheers Rick

    • @candicefarrington2208
      @candicefarrington2208 7 лет назад

      Smart Drive Test Yes, it has airbrakes and the firewall. This truck is new to us seeing as we just got it 2 months ago and sold our old one that was not a kenworth. So none of them know where the parts are at to well and lucky me. I only have my permit for the cdl. So I'm basically alone when I'm trying to learn this truck.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  7 лет назад

      Hi Candice - the air compressor will be bolted to the side of the engine block. Can you find the air dryer? If so, follow the main discharge line from the air dryer back to the compressor. The main discharge line will be braided metal. I have seen the air compressor stuck in between the frame and the motor - and are difficult to find. Let me know, Cheers Rick

    How can I hook an air hose to my air compressor tank under a school bus? I have a 98 international 3800 with the dt466e in it. Is this possible?

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 лет назад

      Hi adictiveadictive - Apologies for the late response. Thank you for your comment and query. You can hook a line to the compressor system. The problem however is volume. These systems don't produce a lot of volume. So it is going to depend of what you're using the air pressure for my friend. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick

    • @adictiveadictive

      Thanks for getting back. I wanted to use tools inside the bus. Typical air tools you might find in a body shop like dual action sander air paint sprayer or maybe a nail gun
      Thanks again

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 лет назад

      Hi adictiveadictive - you are most welcome my friend. Yes, for that application, there just won't be enough volume. You're probably going to need to go with a gas engine on a compressor. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Can we hold 400 psi in air tank for long time( if 500 psi is max)

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Shankar Pediredla - Thank you for your query. If the system is running more than 140psi, you need to get it checked by a qualified technician my friend. If it is in fact at 400psi--as you said--it's dangerous. All the best, Cheers Rick
