When I was taught cross stitch, eons ago, I was taught to travel the stitches under the other stitches. On this pattern I would have travelled the white thread under the blue to the next confetti stitch.
These videos have answered all of my beginner questions after sifting through a bunch of other videos. Thank you so much for posting these!
Thanks for starting this class. I have been stitching for over 40 years, with a 10 year break until this year, and I never knew how to start a piece with the loop method until I saw your videos. I love this method. Yes- even an old dog can learn new tricks!
I always learn something and I like the way you teach simple and straight forward.
Starting your loop stitch on the front of your work saves time flipping your project back and forth. Looks just as nice as the back loop method.
I hope you are doing well Kimberly and recovering. Thank you FQS for these videos.
I love learning new things! Thank you for doing this! Get better soon ! We miss you live! 💕🧵💕🪡💕
Thanks for showing how you end confetti stitches. They are my least favorite stitching! Get well soon, looking forward to having you back on flosstube! 💙
Thank you for showing and explaining two ways to do confetti stitches. I know beginners will find this very helpful. Take care Kimberly. See you next time.
I too, along with Deborah Wheeler, would like to see a demo using one thread as I stitch mainly on 25 count , 1 over 1. Thanks for showing how to tie off a single confetti stitch.
Thanks Kimberly I’m learning so much through these videos
Thanks to Kimberly, I was already using the loop switch to start, but I've been using a pin stitch to end a confetti stitch. I like Kimberly's method much better because it looks neater and if I need to frog, it will be easier. Thanks Kimberly.
Ooooooh, I'm glad I watched this video to see a proper confetti stitch!
⚾️ thanks I appreciate the process of single finishes with no traveling
Love the end off technique for this...it is new to me and I will be using it in the future. Thanks for teaching an old stitcher new tricks!
Thanks for explaining this so very clearly.
Your instructions are very clear. Thank you. I'm enjoying this experience so much! Thank you, Kimberly.
Thank you, Kimberly and team!! We appreciate y’all!!😍
Another awesome video!! Thank you!!
Thank you Kimberly. Class was good. Hope you are feeling better!
Thank you for the information. I sure appreciate it.
thanks Kimberly soo helpful!!!xxxxx
This is exactly the question I had yesterday for a design I’m stitching.. thank you so much!
Thank you ❤I am almost ready to do cross stitch. Thanks to you ❤
Great tutorial for beginners are intermediate who are don’t do the confetti on colored fabric. Thanks!
I always wondered how to do that. Thank you!!
This is so helpful. Thanks!!!
I have been cross stitching off snd on for years. I never knew how to cleaning do those confetti stitches. Thank you for this new technique
This is a great tutorial! I think I’m going to end all stitching this way from now on!
Very helpful. Thank you
Thanks so much Kimberly…hope your eye surgery is healing…I am suppose to get my new glasses after cataract surgery next week🥰
I have met some bumps along my stitchy journey, but i’m still stitchin’….🥳
Very helpfull. Thank you❤
Thankyou so much!l
I use the loop method when the pattern calls for DMC and two strands but you should not use it if working with hand-dyed threads.
Thank you for the info. And by the way, I would like to know where you got that gorgeous ring from? I just LOVE it!
Oh, I meant to add that I pray your eye is getting better & that we'll see you back on live videos real soon. 🙏🙏
Great video as usual! Thanks! I found that on my cross stitch chart for this project that the far right top row gray "box" is printed one stitch too far to the right. If you stitch as it's shown, your gray stitches will "bump up" against the turquoise border instead of leaving one blank space. I wonder if everyone else caught this.
I also have a question. Is there anyway that I could have the bottom of mine cross stitch say HOME instead of LOVE. I'm not sure if there is sufficient space for the H and M in place of the L and V. I defer to you, Kimberly, the expert. If you think it'll work can you steer me in the right direction to find those 2 letters (H & M)? Thank you!
I’ve been working on the Queen Bee Sampler! I’m on the Bee and have to take stitches out! Ugh!
I have the Pat's Favorite Needle size 26 but the needle is to short for me. I need a longer needle can you recommend a needle that's is a little long.
Hope Kimberlys eyes are getting better
When doing stand alone, when "tying off", once you've gone vertically and horizontally a couple of times...on your last pass, would you ever go through the "loop" (like you do when starting) just before finishing pulling through to form a knot? I hope this makes sense. Thanks again for another great tutorial...learning so much!
Yeah, that’s what I would do. Not even do all that vertically horizontally stitching, it’s not necessary. You can just slip the needle under the stitch, don’t pull the thread all the way through (creating the loop), and tie a knot then snip. Tada! 🙂
Hello Crafting a Planned Life! No, the loop would not hold and you really don't want to have a knot on the back of your work
@@FatQuarterShopFlossTube When you do the vertical and horizontal passes twice on the confetti stitch it looks padded...almost like a knot would. Does it affect the piece the same way a knot would?
I just love the loop cast on technique. To me the white does not stand out a lot. Can I sew over my cross again, or do I use 3 threads?
My advice would be to use a brighter white or change the color completely if You’re not happy with the look that You’re getting, but no I wouldn’t go over it again or use three strands, it would make it look different from the rest of the work. Hope that helps!
Hello Karen! We recommend using three strands.
Thanks Kimberley I like the 3 tread. Old age and eyes not so good so hence a thicker white should solve the admiring my first finished cross stitch pattern in 45 years. Quilt during the day and can now and relax with cross stitch at night. Next project will be your Christmas stockings, etc
Kimberly, I'm a newbie. Could you have traveled through the dark gray stitches when doing your white confetti stitches?
Hello Patty! Yes, you can travel through the dark gray stitches when doing your white confetti stitches
@@FatQuarterShopFlossTube Thank you!
Stupid question…how are you starting them AFTER doing the loop method initially? I only know how to do the loop method and I don’t understand how you do it once you cut the thread? :(
Maybe I missed something but I don’t get how you end up using the loop method for each stitch. Once you cut the thread for the first confetti stitch, don’t u end up w two separate threads? Do you use a new thread? I hope u understand what I’m trying to ask.
I hope you are feeling better

What is the shortest length of floss that you can easily do a single confetti stitch with the loop method?
Hello Renee! We think about 3 inches, but would suggest that you cut a short length and try it on a scrap or in the corner of your project.
@@FatQuarterShopFlossTube thank you!
This is off topic, but I have a question regarding Evenweave. I got a piece of 28 CT Charles Craft Monaco - my first try with Evenweave - and when preparing to grid I discovered that it is indeed 28 CT going horizontally, but vertically it's only 26!
I've recounted all over the fabric and this seems to be consistent. Did I get a bad piece? Can I use it? Do I just chuck it and get something else?
hi eld8881, my guess is that 26x28 may be standard for Charles Craft. The difference in visual size is small, so I would look at the pattern that I'm going to stitch. If my pattern is square, round or symmetrical, or had a distinct border meant to fit within a standard frame, I would save it for something else. If my pattern was free-form, say, a picture of flowers or a puppy or an alphabet, I would probably use it. I would check the dimensions using 26 stitches per inch to make sure the final project would fit in the frame I'm planning to use.
Some people have shown doing a pin stitch when ending confetti stitches. I tried doing them, but I don't think they are very secure. What do you think about pin stitches?
Hello Heden! The pin stitch is secure it just is a little more difficult to do on Aida.
Question any chance of changing love to home. Is this part of an alphabet pattern that is available?
I have thought about doing the same thing. But because H and M are wide letters you would need to use a narrower or shorter alphabet to fit in the same space. I'm a beginner, so hopefully, a more experienced stitcher will be able to answer your question. There are lots of free alphabet patterns online if you want to test them out on graph paper.
Mmm hopefully someone can help.
I agree. Any chance of giving us a chart for ‘Home”? Thanks!
@@donnarhinesmith2160 @FatQuarterShopFlossTube could you possibly offer this as an option, it seems like it's a popular idea. Thanks!
Hello Caroline! We have a cross stitch alphabet available here: www.fatquartershop.com/cross-stitch-alphabet-downloadable-pdf-cross-stitch-pattern
I am using a single strand on 18 count. How do you start the confetti stitch as you cannot anchor with loop method?
I would also like to know how to start the stitch with an uneven number of threads. Thanks!
Hello Deborah! We are working on getting an answer for you.
@@FatQuarterShopFlossTube thanks
How would you start / do a confetti stitch with a single thread?
Hello Margaret! We recommend using the pin stitch or just holding the tail and catch under the stitch then run the needle thru the stitch on the back a few times, but you may have a slight bump this way.
Is there anyway i could get this pattern? What is the price and i live in Alabama.
Hello Gilda! We have the supplies that Kimberly used linked in the description box underneath the title. Here is a link to the FREE Cross Stitch University Cross Stitch Pattern: bit.ly/2XT1Nyx
Why do that when you can simply travel to the next stitch? Nobody sees the reverse
Hello Steven! It's personal preference. People often ask how Kimberly keeps her backs so neat and this is a very common stitch. You are welcome to stitch however you would like.
I'm sorry, but this is the worst way to stitch "confetti", or any stitch. When you put you work on a frame, all those big knots will appear in the fabric.
That was my question above. The confetti stitch method shown looks just as padded as a knot. How do you do it? @Animalista Navarra
