That 142 million is an insane amount, but after this year it’ll be over with, and his deal will be relatively low in terms of cap hit for the years proceeding. Because of how cheap his contract will be and the relatively low guaranteed money after the signing bonus, his contract will actually be very flexible going forward. If things do workout, then this is amazing, they got the extension done before the market reset. If things don’t workout, then worst case scenario, they have an above average QB on a relatively cheap deal, which some team will absolutely trade picks for, and the dead cap of 58 mil spread out over multiple years really isn’t bad at all. The sum may look like an overpay on paper, but the distribution of this contract makes it incredibly safe and team friendly.
