Only been in the SLC airport a couple of times. The thing I remember most was the very long walks to get anywhere. This new tunnel sounds like a big improvement.
@@portcybertryx222 I don’t travel through there but if I regularly did I would find it annoying because I’m a power walker, and I bet those lights would slow people down to gawk at them, even on the travelators they probably just stand there with their mouths open staring at them, it would drive me crazy 😜
I'm from Montana, so flying nearly anywhere means a stop at SLC for the connecting flight. I've always enjoyed the SLC airport and the services the airport provides. It's always clean and tidy. I've been flying through SLC for about 50-years or so, using Western Airlines, Frontier Airlines and finally Delta airlines.
Recently, I arrived and departed out of the B gates. Way too much walking. They need to install an outdoor tram like the Dallas airport or a subway like the Atlanta airport. I know these airports are bigger than the Salt Lake airport. But it’s still just way too much walking.
I am glad the airport management has decided to keep the secondary tunnel open. The artwork there, alone, is worth the view, if you are headed to the lower B gates. You have to go that distance anyway. The new tunnel will greatly benefit everyone, though.
I was in SLC airport a month ago, was in the new tunnel and was told by the young man who was pushing me in a wheelchair that 5he walk was about 1 mile from airport gate arrival to baggage claim. I’m glad I wasn’t in a hurry.
The article makes it sound as though the new tunnel is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Tell that to those who have to get to or from gates B 1-11. It makes no difference whatsoever. What would help more is if someone were to design wider moving sidewalks that extended the entire length of the tunnels with a way to enter or exit them at multiple points similar to freeway on-ramps and off-ramps.
Very ironic that a desert state has a 'river tunnel' in its airport, but it is pretty! I'm guessing someone saw Atlanta's jungle tunnel and was inspired?
@@FeralDawn Lol it does sound ironic, but after being here for a few weeks and I’m surprised how many rivers there actually are! I always heard Utah was a desert lol
Water is life, especially in the desert. There are seven rivers/creeks in the Salt Lake Valley. Unfortunately, most have been buried to enable development. I did think the same thing about Atlanta's tunnel though. I think Detroit has a themed tunnel as well.
Where is the short distance train or tram? As a young person it is still a 20+ minute walk. I can get across SEATAC that quick and that airport is 5 times the size!
It is much better... The tunnel itself took me almost exactly 5 minutes to get through. I stood on the escalators going down and up, and walked on the moving walkways. I'm not going to complain about a 5 minute walk. If you've walked between terminals in Chicago or Atlanta, this is nothing.
@@clint83196 it’s not about comparing to other airports, it’s the fact they tore down an airport with an awesome layout to make this catastrophe failure and waste of money. The old airport was 100x’s more efficient.
@@stewypope Catastrophic failure by what measure? How was the old airport more efficient, given the present and growing demand for new service? I'm not saying you're wrong, just trying to respectfully understand your perspective.
After 911 one had to arrive an hour early so everyone can be treated like a terrorist before boarding the plane. With the new improvements they have lessened security because no terrorist is willing to walk 10 miles to board the same plane.
Haha, a train to go like 150 yards???? Come on, maybe once there is a C terminal that would make sense but it would literally take longer to wait and ride a train 150 yards than it is just to walk it. I was there today and it was like a 4 minute walk to go from one end to the other. A train would be a HUGE waste of money at this stage.
Now if the airport officials could change the scent in its bathrooms. The worst scent ever!!!! Causes migraines/headaches, increases asthmatic condition and just is the worst smell ever.
You know this airport is a failure because no matter how nice of an article the news puts out, the comments all turn to how long the atrocious walks are. They pathetic attempts to down play it won’t work. People want better planning in their airport… not state of the art shopping and art. What a waste of money.

just think of the wage increase they couldve used that money on
Nah still the same long walk, once you’ve seen it once the novelty wears off
@@ytzpilot but with travellators it’s not that bad.

Oh the torture of walking to the B terminals in SLC. I doubt the new tunnel will be any better.
You WILL fly Delta and you WILL use A terminal
A moving walkway isn't an improvement from a concrete walk? 🤨

SLC Airport still needs a train…even if it’s short like CVG ( Cincinnatti ) Airport.

Very nice, hopefully SLC will add additional airlines, Delta has a monopoly.

Train would be installed once C gates are built. Could be 10-20 years.

Need a rail system or bus to get to terminals faster. One of the bigger airports that doe not have one...why?
Agreed!

Funny having two unsuspecting passengers get interviewed.
And the further decimation of what Utah was relentlessly pushes onward... 🙃🥂
1:59 - you guys got trolled. No way that’s his real name.
I don't see it as any improvement at all!
More mobility handling for people who have trouble walking would have been a better way to spend the money!
Great 👍 now they prepare you for an underwater crash on your way to the airplane 😅
Sunshine and butterflies... Cool, does it get me to B gates faster? If not, waste of money.
Yes, it does.

poop has never been known to smell good.
They need a train. This is so ridiculous!!!! Who ever came up with this airport design needs to be fired, fined, and jailed.
jailed?

Looks lake a waste of money
they couldve used that money for higher wages
Salt Lake City was a key junction in the original Boeing Air Transport system of the late 1920s. Glad to see it thriving.
