I was originally fine with Rey's Parents being no one, but this lore really does add more to the story that makes me kind of appreciate the Rey/Palpatine twist more. And it is cool to know that Sidious's son was simply one of many, like in Legends, showing Rey was only special for Palpatine's own ends, not recognizing what makes her distinct as a human being. She is kind, afraid, excited, curious and empathetic. What she chose to do with her life matters so much more than how she was created. Kinda reminds me of Caesar from the Planet of the Apes trilogy, in a sense.

That's the message of Rey's story. Not all hero stories have to be about being a weakling-turned-chad. Rey was competent in fighting the same way Finn was, and her being powerful in the Force isn't the point of her character, it's where she went with it. And her adopting the Skywalker name is beautiful the same way Leia is adopted as an Organa, Luke is adopted as a Lars, Han adopting the name Solo when serving the Empire, and even Anakin himself being adopted as a Skywalker since he was born from the Force and not from an intentional, biological birth (Shmi Skywalker was the first known Skywalker, and she was a nobody; the poetry of Rey, technically still a nobody while also being a powerful descendant of Palpatine, taking on the Skywalker name is a great closure of The Skywalker Saga's meaning in my eyes).

@@dibsdibs3495 I mean, we can always make a movie where Rey's journey starts with her as a child on Jakku failing at flying spaceships, failing at being a mechanic, failing at scavenging, and failing to fend off marauders, but not all stories have to start at the very beginning. Even Luke's journey didn't start off with him helpless, as he had marksmanship and some airspeeder experience.
We could have had a prequel trilogy starting off with a young adult Anakin as a Jedi already, but it wouldn't take away from the story. It's just a different way to tell it. Just because Rey's journey started with a level of competence doesn't make her a bad character. I can think of countless great stories where the protagonist is competent. And I am convinced the only reason many of us see Rey as being infallible is because of the media around her telling it that way, as we know she only beat Kylo Ren once in the beginning of the trilogy after Kylo was shown to be shot by an extremely powerful Wookie bowcaster (takes out three dudes just from impact), fought Finn and got slashed in the right shoulder by Finn, and was mentally and spiritually destroyed from killing his father. The SW fanbase hyperfocused around this one fight to the point we all believed Rey was written as some god, when she was not. Kylo outmatched completely in fair fights afterwards (Kylo also fought multiple praetorian guards simultaneously while Rey struggled with one).
I genuinely learned to appreciate Rey. I used to be vehemently against her existence, but then I realized I only believed that because the fanbase trained me to react this way to her. It took time to destigmatize liking Rey in my brain, and now I hope to see her more in future content. And I just remind myself SW has always been weird and unplanned since Day 1. Makes it easier putting that in perspective.

Hearing (audiobook) their last moments from Miramir's perspective was interesting, and a little heart-breaking. She could feel Ochi's anger and the hunger of the Sith Blade that killed her. Of course I could be reading too much into that, Ochi was literally a raging drunk and the blade was drinking her blood at the time after she'd been stabbed by it, but I like the idea that Rey might not have gotten all her Force sensitivity from her Father's side (Palpatine).

I wonder if Luke and Lando ever realised that Rey was the child of the family that they had aided so many years before, Luke when he met Rey or more likely, after he became one with the Force and Lando after getting to know Rey more, following TROS. I would love a future story to have them sit down with Rey and have her learn that two of these heroes she's looked up to tried to protect and help her family escape the Sith when she was a child. I think that would be a great companion piece to this story and pack an emotional punch.
I really love all this backstory the book has established for Rey's parents and it makes it even sadder that she was left on Jakku now having the full story. It's a very interesting situation with Dathan and Miramir, considering his origins.
I admit the idea of Dathan being born years before Palpatine's death is one I had to adjust to. It's just weird to think he was on Exegol throughout the reign of the Empire and the Original Trilogy and now being out in the galaxy during the Galactic Civil War. I always figured he was born after Endor and just engineered to age quickly to be an adult but honestly him aging naturally makes more sense if he was intended to be Sidious's vessel. He wouldn't want a body that would age quickly like the Clone troopers, he'd want one to last so I do like this more. It was just one of those new revelations that caught me off guard at first, as is the case with many new stories but now it has me asking when Palpatine discovered Exegol and set up shop there. If he had knowledge of it early in the Empire's days, maybe he knew about it for a long time, even under the tutelage of Plagueis. That's something I've always wondered but this has brought the question up again with new information, even though that was not the intent of the story which is something I love about Star Wars. Just as stories answer already existing questions we have, they can pose new ones at the same time to be discussed in the future.

I’ve also wondered about how long the Sith Eternal has existed. For the possibility of the Sith Eternal coming to Exegol between 19 BBY and 12 BBY makes sense as there would be no Jedi monitoring Palpatine’s movements and he did leave most work to his subordinates. Not to mention by this time he would have the cloning tech from the Kaminoans. On the other hand, he could have founded the cult and moved it to Exegol between 32 BBY and 19 BBY. The Jedi may have had a presence on Ilum for Kyber Crystals, but Palpatine might have sneaked past them somehow. Also, we’ve already seen Palpatine in this era working on his contingency on Jakku, long before the Empire even exists. Then comes the possibility that the cult existed before Palpatine. Perhaps one of the many Sith Lords before him or even Lord Bane created the cult so that the Sith can always have a fallback place. After all, wouldn’t the Jedi at least for some time be monitoring the homeworlds of the Sith Order after defeating them, meaning a cult to fall back on should be situated where the Jedi wouldn’t go? Bane and his followers were only against the idea of multiple Sith since it leads to infighting and murder. That doesn’t mean they were against the idea of non-Sith followers. Still, we may never know the true origins of the Sith Eternal.

Star Wars has always been an inconsistent mess, and that's fine. I can't recall any series that's been consistent since Day 1 out of pure perfect planning.
Any time anything new came out for Star Wars, the story themes and direction was suddenly changed, and that's the appeal of it. Things always change. Eventually people will accept The Sequels and perhaps even cherish all the future Sequel content we'll get. Prequel lovers pretend that the Prequels and George Lucas were never hated the same way they hate Lucasfilm under Disney, or how much they harrassed actors to near suicide before TFA. I even remember when fans were hoping Luke would turn out to be Kylo Ren before TFA came out and I'm surprised fans were more okay with Luke going to the Dark Side (Legends, ehem) than Luke just being cynical and traumatized like in TLJ.

In the last six months or so I've really turned around on Rey being Palpatine's descendant. I really loved the idea the she was no one special but I think the RoS reveal still works for three reasons.
First I think that connecting her to their archenemy makes her adoption by the Skywalkers and the Jedi much more powerful because she has to overcome a negative destiny that is pulling her towards evil.
Also I don't think being related to Palpatine at all diminishes the idea that anyone can use the Force because you still have broom-boy at the end.
Finally the twist being a lie is a really nice reversal of the OT twist being the truth.

In fact, I read Jannah's squadron was called 'Company 77' until she and the stormtroopers with her broke away and deserted, so that could lead to a story that explains that. My thoughts on that are... Not again. Why does every new female character have to be considers Rey's mother?
When Rogue One trailers first dropped people were saying Jyn Erso would be her mon, then Qira was seen in the Solo trailers and it started up again? Then any new Star Wars comic female like Doctor Aphra, and pretty much all others too, were speculated to be Rey's mom. Even Iden Versio from Battlefront had it said at some point?
    Now it's Omega?
Wouldn't Omega be around the same age as Luke or older? Maybe her Grand Mother but why does everyone have to be related in Star Wars?
I liked Ezra because he is not related to the other known heroes.
I wish the cartoons and comics stayed away from the sequals and focused on the early days of the New Republic.

Here is what I think should happen.
Make Palpatine and Jobal Naberrie have an affair which gets her pregnant. They were close in the book Darth Plagueis.
Then through the force Palpatine moves the embryo from Jobal to Shmi Skywalker to hide the child.
From Shimi comes Anakin (who hooks up with his sister Padme) and from Anakin/Padme comes Luke and Leia and from Leia we get Ben Solo or Kylo Ren.
Going by this Dathan being a clone of Palpatine comes Rey.
Then Rey and Kylo get together.
So what would that make them? Cousins I think.
Now all you have to do is have Miramir related to someone and mix up things even more.
