As a Fashion Designer I really appreciate that SMii7Y and KRYOZ understand what goes into making a piece of clothing, as well as why something costs the way it does. It makes me unbelievably happy to know that the hard work that goes into fashion gets recognized like this.

For instance, a plain shirt from a local store like Walmart could cost a $1 or less to make. However they sell it in stores for $6-$12 to make a profit. High end stores like Gucci or Louis Vuitton inflate the price upwards of 800-900% when selling their products. When you buy high end products you are paying for the best of the best material money can buy. The better quality the material the longer it will last you, and the cheaper something is the shorter it will last. The phrase "You get what you pay for" is very much true in this case. The bottom line of it all is that at some point you are paying for the brands name more than the actual item. Especially if the brand is well known. There are more technical reasons but it's hard to explain without using technical terms.
