The moment I tried out the machete I knew right there it would be trash. It's so slow. It's a shame because I love Cotdg, it's one of my favorite roguelites
You forgot to mention that pure nail has a really powerful combo once you master it, slice up then quickly slice left/right to pretty much get two hits in the time of one. I’m pretty sure you can even add a downward slice also to the combo if you’re quick enough
Just a heads up, with the nail, you can gain the critical hit by swiping above your head standing next to an enemy. I found out because I was trying to hit the concierge on the chin. No need to bounce.
machete and pistol is like a survival weapon but with half the damage, when i play i always use cc when engaging and then oneshot the monster or use it reactively (eg ice grenade, root grenade etc.) , the machete just doesnt work for this kind of game and lets not talk about the "fire damage" which is even more pointless. the blaster should have higher damage too, its hitspeed is like brut/surv but with no damage

Now they removed the recovery on the switch version so there’s less use to it, but it’s still great. Hard Light Weapons: B I really can’t choose between if I should play this in tactics or brutality (brutality for the sword, tactics for acrobatipack) but it’s a solid weapon, I just wish it did more damage. Overall my favorite weapon of the ones introduced Bone: Unranked I haven’t used this one enough Machete and Pistol (Nintendo Switch): VERY low C The faster attack speed on the switch version makes it more bearable, but it still doesn’t help too much. This one needs a lot of buffs to be more viable. Shame, I really love using it Pollo Power: C I find it so weird that you can’t cancel out the ability for this, it’s add much more versatility to it. One great thing about the machete and pistol is that its boom-boom-bap rhythm is the same as “We Will Rock You” by Queen. For that fact alone it is S tier.
I've been watching your videos last couple of days and I decided to go for the explosive crossbow blueprint within the same run to my surprise that crossbow carried me all the way to my first defeat of the boss so I am now officially on BC one and it took me days and probably would have taken longer if I didn't go for that crossbow that thing is strong. the fact that there's no special gimmick for critical hits you just shoot them and they blow up is insane. So shooting that and dodging carried me all the way And it has now officially become my favorite weapon It felt like I was shooting a rocket launcher at enemies. (I started the run off with the short bow and nail) My second favorite weapon is the crossbow that shoots like a shotgun and it pulls enemies towards you That allowed me to get to the boss before I just lost at the boss fight and no other weapon has gotten me that far.
I like the purple hard light weapons better. You can get spread oil on the sword and put the flamethrower in the backpack and is really fun to use. It also works well with the lighting, cos you're gonna be running towards enemies so you're gonna put that extra fire/electricity to good use.
I agree, I think it very weird but I usually see the "spreads inflammable oil" and "Lights nearby enemies on fire" for mine. Which makes it at least usable.
I'd nerf the amount of recovery points and the cooldown so its almost as long as ice armor so it forces you to get cd reducing skills. removing recovery points altogether would be dumb tbh, the whole point of the skill is that you stun yourself and take a bit of damage to hopefully gain some hp back so theres a balance between risk vs reward.
Can confirm that they nerfed face flask on the switch. You can't use it to heal anymore. It literally just deals damage to you. It still has some cool synergy, but honestly that puts it down to C or D tier to me
the hardlight weapons are my favorite weapon in the game, though this is mainly due to me being biased both towards anything HyperLightDrifter related and towards any 2 handed weapon

The pure Nail can also stunlock enemies if you attack upwards, just stick to them and keep attacking upwards, they will not be able to perform an attack, this doesn’t work on enemies that teleports away from you.
I've found the machete and pistol to be helpful with crowd control; you focus the two machete hits on one enemy, then turn and one-shot an enemy behind you with the pistol shot.
I believe they should add a bit more damage or attack speed to hyper light weapons, because I just don't find that many reasons I would pick it up over some other brutality weapons mainly because for me it is really punishing running around with no shield or having slow attack time (attacks often limit me from rolling away from the enemy) though I think either of improvement could make weapon way more worthwhile mastering I really like this weapon design and am also a fan of HLD so i hope they will give some improvement
Same and the attacks feel super nice, the animations add some weight as you are reallly bashing the head of an enemy with your full body weight, i just wish the gun stacking made the sword deal way more damage, like 3 gun shots and 1 hit should be enough to get a tanky enemy down and like 5 shots 5 hits should kill the minibosses that spawn at the flying map

When you break the Hand of the King, you know Motion Twin will become aware and fix it. The fact that you can escape the Slammers too already makes the weapon S-Tier in my eyes. Edit: In Guacamelee 2, you can dodge roll as a Pollo. You should be able to in Dead Cells. It would be interesting to have the Machete and Pistol be a Brutality-Survival Weapon since the pistol doesn't use ammo and that Point Blank doesn't work on it. Considering a number of weapons in Survival that I've acquired had damage boosts from fire affixes, it might be interesting as a weapon.
The uncovered Switch/early (they said the tweaks will come to everything else but came to the Switch first as they had some bug fixes to add so they did both at once) tweak is the Hard Light weapons' damage being tweaked that low mark crits do less but high mark ones do more. Well vampirisme is situational that's true, but with the war-lance and the 3X longer recovery you're basically immortal (plus if you get the bonus giving you Shield upon activating vampirisme you can't screw this up)
Can someone explain to me how the face flask works? What is recovery? I tried to look it up in the Wiki but it doesn't have its own page and i don't seem to notice anything happening when i use it and hit enemies. I defeated the hand once by the way and am at stem cell 1, grinding normal cells to unlock stuff.
From what I understand recovery is kinda like rally from bloodborne (for a short time after you get hit, you can recover some of your health by hitting enemies), but like a really shit version of that. I'm probably doing something wrong because using face flask felt really underwhelming to me.
They did nerf face flask on the switch, but they fixed where it reset kill streaks. You didn't talk about killer deck though. It's a weapon I found in the distillery once, but I haven't seen anyone talk about it online

As a Hyper Light Drifter fan (and the fact that seeing the sword, pistol, and costume coming into the game being the biggest push for me to buy Dead Cells to begin with), I really feel like the sword is a lot slower than it should be, even if it tried to be a faithful recreation of the original xD
Hard Light Sword and Blaster get an A+ or an S- in my book because the more you shoot an enemy the more damage your crits will do and that damage is high. I play on the Switch so for the Switch version, Face Flask gets a F-
It takes so long to just put 3 marks on an enemy and if you're in 5bc that's never gonna happen, also the damage is nothing compared to something like sadist stilleto I personally hate it, but maybe it works well for you. In conclusion I just rather use a weapon that does everything better and doesn't take two slots, like the rapier or bone.
I really don't understand devs sometimes, they can do some incredible weapon design and then make the chicken egg a purple only skill when it could be green and purple
I play on Switch and never knew that about Face Flask, I always thought it was a terrible item for that reason, never thought about the synergy with Vengeance though but without the recovery it’s still kinda too much risk and not enough reward
the supposed switch port face flask nerf is as extreme as the nerf to the Mummy skull in Skul: The Hero Slayer the Mummy skull was once considered one of the best skulls in the game now it is really bad unless you're good at Metal Slug
speaking as a brand new player (only around 20 hours) the machete and pistol is so fucking funny, mostly spacing around the third attack and KAPLOWING the monsters' faces off but it is incredibly slow and given my playstyle, i would much prefer if 1) the two hits were much quicker (end lag i dont mind as much) and 2) keeping the N3 charge for a lot longer so i could reposition then again, i am new so the slow movement doesn't bother me but i can see how it incredibly inconvenient when your life is constantly on the line in higher difficulties
I think the first run i ever finish is with the pollo power (just started playing this game around a week ago) iirc i got an insane perk on the chicken bomb that gives it a stupid amount of damage per bomb and i wasn't eve running a purple build Melted the Hand of the King so fast i didn't even have to heal fighting him the first time :D
Saw this video today and Flask piqued my interest. But apparently today's update removed the ability to heal... so now all it does is 5 damage to one's cranium
I'm trying to avoid unlocking other weapons excepr for Nail and Bone. I unlocked the Nail first. But I'm 35 games in and every time the game offers me sword and machete. Looks like I'll have to wait until the altars are ramdomized or the other weapons remade to be fun and impactful.
I hope they don't nerf the Face Flask too hard. While it could use some toning down, it's combo with the revenge sword and mutattion is my favorite build in the game.
Can someone elaborate on what the regen from the face flask means? He says it’s good with mutations so I assume the health regen part means that it increases how much health is gained from something like necromancy
So if ur health is not full, whenever u use the flask it give u extra recovery point. Example if u got hit by enemy, the recovery will go down with ur current health ex : we have 80% HP. So when u using face flask and ur current health is 80% when u use it it will give u extra recovery point from 80% to 82%. So we got extra recovery point from that item. So when u use the flask and hit the enemy right away. U will get extra health because u take the extra 2% rally point. Im trying my best to explain it. Come to veedotme. He explain it very clearly
I just started watching your vids and noticed you never use armadillo pack. They mutation is almost a must on every build for me. I guess you probably are to good with a shield so it was never necessary for you, but I couldn't even make it past 2bc without it. My favorite build is Marksman's bow, multi knocked bow, point blank, barbed tips, and armadillo pack, usually with ice shield or parry shield. But even if I'm in a brutality build I prefer 2 weapons and armadillo pack because the parry hb lasts the whole roll and if you somehow miss your still invul. Maybe see if it it's worth a vid if you hadn't done one on it.
I think it’s mainly down to personal preference. I prefer to have an actual shield in my off-hand, but my friend always picks up armadillopack, regardless of build or colour. Overall I can see it’s many uses
@@Pseychie_DC ah, I see. I kind of expected that, but was also wondering if there was a more strategic reason not to use it that I just want aware of. It might be cool to do a backpack showcase. A fun one for me is vorpan in the porcupack and assassin's blade in hand.
I wish I could like this game so much... but everytime I play it all I feel is anxiety and frustration, even when I'm not doing all that bad, because I know one screw up will mess everything up.
Even after watching this video I still do not get that hype for Face Flask. Especially on switch where it is just hitting yourself for 5 damage. It has not use outside vengeance and spite sword, which makes this skill situational. You could go for vengeance itself, but you could just get other mutation AND other skill, so both skill and mutation will add up and can overcome vengeance from face flask, especially if it no longer gives recovery which means you are getting buff at the cost of your health, which definitely is not worth A/S rank. Normally in your rankings I've seen you rating items in terms of usefulness, fun and learning curve also making borders depending on if they are good on their own, need a little help or much. There is not learning in face flask, not really fun just hitting your head and it is useful only for vengeance and spite sword, maybe healing, but switch version may be final and recovery will be gone, while the skill itself is only hurting the player without proper item/mutation.
Yeah, unfortunately if the switch version of face flask comes to PC, the rating would have to get changed. The current version constantly tops up your health, so at 5BC when health is supposed to be really scarce, the face flask makes that trivial. Again, if the switch version of it comes to PC, I’ll comment in a future vid how that can impact its rating
Gotta agree, very disappointed with the machete and pistol. I really enjoy weapons that make you work but hit hard. I thought this one would be worth it but the attack animation is so slow you have to overcommit to get the crit off.
I'm there, too. I just really want it to be good. I think the best thing they could do is raise the attack speed and lower the endlag of all the moves. That way, you'd actually be able to afford to dip in and out of melee in the intended fashion.
My problem with the pure nail is physichs of Dead Cells. Its very different from HK, which makes the mobility while bouncing in enemies strange.

As a Hyper Light Drifter fan (and the fact that seeing the sword, pistol, and costume coming into the game being the biggest push for me to buy Dead Cells to begin with), I really feel like the sword is a lot slower than it should be, even if it tried to be a faithful recreation of the original xD
I love the Machete & Pistol, it's definitely my favourite weapon in the game.
I rlly love your contents!!!!
If u use the close range tactical skill, it becomes extremely effective for a mainly tactical build
For the Machete pistol
I really don't understand devs sometimes, they can do some incredible weapon design and then make the chicken egg a purple only skill when it could be green and purple
lmao that genshin impact part. Great video, keep it up!
I once used the machete andvpistol to kill the hand of the king....
....how did i do that?
I play on Switch and never knew that about Face Flask, I always thought it was a terrible item for that reason, never thought about the synergy with Vengeance though but without the recovery it’s still kinda too much risk and not enough reward
11:07 What is the morass of the banished?
the supposed switch port face flask nerf is as extreme as the nerf to the Mummy skull in Skul: The Hero Slayer
the Mummy skull was once considered one of the best skulls in the game
now it is really bad
unless you're good at Metal Slug
I had a few legendary pollo powers. Couldn't make it work. Main issue was the clunky control, no double jump or dodge.
Yoooo shoutout to my boy vord
On switch the face flask is c plus
It can be paired with spite sword but that’s about it
i think the machete is pretty okay if u get melee mutation, i do hope they buff it tho
I completely understand the flaws of the machete and pistol, however I can’t resist using it because hitting enemy’s with the pistol is so satisfying.
Ngl the chicken is pretty good for clearing larger hordes and the giant boss
I still don’t understand how the Face Flask is good or how it works, can someone please explain?
speaking as a brand new player (only around 20 hours)
the machete and pistol
is so fucking funny, mostly spacing around the third attack and KAPLOWING the monsters' faces off
but it is incredibly slow and given my playstyle, i would much prefer if 1) the two hits were much quicker (end lag i dont mind as much) and 2) keeping the N3 charge for a lot longer so i could reposition
then again, i am new so the slow movement doesn't bother me but i can see how it incredibly inconvenient when your life is constantly on the line in higher difficulties
I think the first run i ever finish is with the pollo power (just started playing this game around a week ago)
iirc i got an insane perk on the chicken bomb that gives it a stupid amount of damage per bomb and i wasn't eve running a purple build
Melted the Hand of the King so fast i didn't even have to heal fighting him the first time :D
on switch face flask doesn't give recovery, it gets no added benefit to compensate, it's just shit now. and it's not even a bug, it's intentional
I really love the nail its my new favorite other than the electronic wip
im veteran of hollow knight, with the pure nail, you can attack upwards while in the ground and you cause a crit
could they make the face flash recovery points scale with brutality? A one to one ratio with brutality might work
with the nail i just walk up to something joystick up and hit, it will trigger the crit effct
Saw this video today and Flask piqued my interest. But apparently today's update removed the ability to heal... so now all it does is 5 damage to one's cranium
I hope they there's a gunblade from ff8 in future updates.
Yeah, face flask gives no recovery on switch
Machete and Pistol is ma' favourite.
As someone on the switch, I’m pretty sure I don’t get recovery points with the face flask
7:14 - very unexpected revelation
I play on switch so I had no clue how good the face flask is
I just started watching your vids and noticed you never use armadillo pack.
I just started playing on ps4 and have yet to see a face flask that has anything to do with recovery
I was at 0BC when the face flask was first introduced. Now i'm at 3BC
Edit: nevermind just beat that too
I wish I could like this game so much... but everytime I play it all I feel is anxiety and frustration, even when I'm not doing all that bad, because I know one screw up will mess everything up.
Cheese the HoTK? Say no more, time to escape this 2bc hell
5:23 actually thats true for dead cells on mobile devices and i can confirm becose i play dead cells on my phone
Gotta agree, very disappointed with the machete and pistol. I really enjoy weapons that make you work but hit hard. I thought this one would be worth it but the attack animation is so slow you have to overcommit to get the crit off.
i'm pretty damn good at hollow knight so pure nail is like, in my top 3 personal favorite weapons in the game
I wonder how much recovery you'd get back with face flask and bone. Need to try that out!
Better try to find out on PC/PS/etc before the the nerf hits them.
how do u actually find the hollow knight weapon (like criteria of how the room spawns)
Isn't face flask vengeance activation and spitesword crits got fixed? I've played with this combo like a week ago, and didn't got the bonus
I don’t think the light sword is all that good but it is still my favorite because I like how it plays
I'm there, too. I just really want it to be good. I think the best thing they could do is raise the attack speed and lower the endlag of all the moves. That way, you'd actually be able to afford to dip in and out of melee in the intended fashion.
