Nice first impressions review Scott, it's just a shame the price of these now has become absolutely mental in Germany for a fully spec'd one! I personally blame the whole PCP/Hire purchase schemes that let people believe that they can afford something they otherwise cannot and artificially inflate price for those of us that prefer to buy things outright. I will not be paying 30k Euros for a GS no matter how good it is, if i were to spend that money then it would be for something a bit more special like a Ducati Streetfighter SP2. But still looking forward to your review when it comes out. Stay safe on the roads with all the mental people about, kids holidays have just begun again and its nuts near me.
The PCP and hire purchase should surely mean prices for outright buying is less, as more are sold on the whole. Also Hire purchase has always been an option in the UK and you end up paying more. Maybe it's a corporate decision to make the brand a bit more exclusive like the CEO of Ducati admitted It's not a brand for the "budgeteers". The streetfighter is in a completely different genre.
Nope. It causes prices to go up. Because the money they make is percentage based. So the higher the vehicles prices, the more money they make as a %.
I've always bought my bikes 100% upfront. Debt culture is dumb.
Agree pcp is a false purchase u r only paying interest and driving new & secondhand sales up
IMO... Car and college costs went up in the USA as obtaining loans became easier. Leasing also helped drive higher prices. I will admit that vehicle quality and capability has skyrocketed too.
It's gotten much more expensive to manufacture in Germany because you're no longer getting cheap oil and gas from Russia. You're having to pay 30% more and that hurts manufacturing.
Why does it sound like a lawn mower?
Welcome to European Euronorms.
Because it's a gs
'They all sound like that, Sir'.
Does it steer like one too?
Because it’s not a Harley 😂
It sounds like a boxer, and that is a nice sound.
Ill have to try this, but i like the tiger.
My Vstrom 1050 2023 quickshifter also goes from 1st to 2nd like a butter. It was worse on my 2022 KTM 1290 SAS. And the sound on Vstrom with Aktapovic is way better then this 1300 that sounds like a lawn mower.
Sounded like your SAS chain needed adjusting to correct tension, which causes much smoother upshifts, my 22 SAS is smooth as butter, just a 'click'
Acrapocovic vs stock is always going to be crap.
Mate's got a 1200 with a GRP exhaust, would beg to differ any Vstrom could ever sound that naughty...
I’m going Yoshimura on my 1050👍🏾
So happy to see you were able to get one of the first looks and videos out there! Excellent and can't wait for your review!
WE NEED THE 1300RT!!!!!
Gearbox edit: nice job bmw, you nailed it, only took you some 35 years and finally works 😂
Correction, 41 years, you were too nice about it, I'm not. It's about time BMW!!! 😁
@@NothingToProve 😃
Scott, a motorcycle is more than a quickshifter. Ok, I’m an old fashioned biker, I like to ride really fast through my crazy hectic hometown, but I also like to ride easy going, enjoy the engine roar, the shaking of my 28 year old boxer motor. And I like to shift gears, with my foot and my hand. It’s part of the motorcycle experience. I am not against innovations, but isn’t a quickshifter just a little bit overrated? What’s the hurry..?
The quickshifter was one of the few things that were not perfect on the 1250. So it's worth to mention.
Agree. I’m no rush to get a bike with a quick shifter. If your clutch is nice and light, it becomes even less necessary
Nice improvements on the 1300GS. As a R1250R owner, I'd wonder what a R1300R would be like (In 2025, maybe?)!
You been trying and reviewing many bikes over last few years that i follow you but none of them make you happy as much as Bemmers does to you 😉 😅 that's why i got my GS 😂
I loved the quick shifter on 2016 S1000XR
I have a 719 1300 GS on order for UK. Interesting that you get a black handle bar as all the European 719s have a gold bar to match the gold wheels, Glad they have sorted the quick shift out...I have a test ride booked for 25th Oct and sat on one This Friday just gone. I like the reduced weight and size.👍
The black handle bar is an option called „Komfort-Lenker“
Thanks for the quick video, looking forward to a full review and comparison to the R1250GS (I owe one). I would be specifically interested in how they differ regarding comfort and suspension.
I would add , the seat height and shape, how they compare and the height adjustment mechanism how does it work, how low it is on its lowest setting
So it took them 8 years to make a smooth quick shifter? Never underestimate BMW’s ability to design issues in then “fix” them with updates through the model’s lifecycle. I’m sure it’s better than the 1250 but it’s also a hefty price hike so it’s a big fat no from me.
It was always difficult having a quick shifter on the boxer engine. It worked great on the s1000xr works better at higher rpm and the boxer engine does low rpm.
My R1250R’s quick shifter is flawless. Smooth as glass, you just need to know how to finesse it. You can’t be ham footed/fisted. I find it better than my 22 SAS.
Ok, thanks for letting us know.

I have a Tiger 900 and I want to change it, until seeing this rewiu I had a clear alternative ¨The Ducati mutistrada gran tour, which is still the most beautiful for me¨. After hearing your opinions in this magnificent video. Would be great if you can compare these 2 bikes head to head. Looking forward to this next review. I never will buy the 1250 Gs but the GS 1300 maybe!
The size / weight reduction, power increase, torque increase, smoother quick shifter - this bike will sell by the truckload…….
Despite the critics banging on about it’s looks and headlamp design 🤣, BMW actually know exactly what they’re doing……I’ll stick with my gen 4 Tiger for now and give it try sometime in the future, nice insight in your vid👍👍
Wow, Scott!! You must be one of the first vloggers on this new beamer! Sensational!
Sounds so sweet..Your joy and excitement say it all!
Congratulations pal! I just LOVE the paralever & telelever german technology absorbers on the BMW boxer & shaft drive regardless of its age .. .. and i dont mind the sound of the lawn mower or trackor or sewing machine engine .. at the end of the day.. its the ride the wind and the feell of freedom that we bikers wanna enjoy .. If we wanna focus on the sound of the engine .. go get your headphones and lay down your butts on the couch
I'm looking forward to being in the states next year, definitely testing a 1300GS and highly likely buying one.
Nice, first impression I’ve seen from someone riding one of the new bikes. Looks like it’s putting a big smile on your face. The view from the seat is pretty familiar. The heated seat, I’m envious.
Sir you did it, first proper review of this new baby. Cheers from Poland
Thunder is impressive, lighting is does a work.awesome 1300.i will wait the arrival.
Seems like the boys and girls from Munich dialed this one in. Great to hear those shifts, sick of the tractor tranny in my 1250 GS. Sounds almost as smooth as my KTM. :)
Can't wait for the full review, please show us the phone compartiment 👏🏻
Can’t wait for detailed review 😍
hey Scott, how come you managed to get the new GS so quick ? first guy i've seen testing one. Hope there's a bigger test coming soon
Let's see your videos!
he is german so that's gotta have something to do with it.
He isn’t German..

Really looking forward to the full review for sure!!
I want one as well....even though I am not an adventure bike rider. What about riding two up? Please include it in your full review.
Hi Scott, cant wait to see your full video. Love the stuff you do and if you want one of these bikes i do too, we know it’s an honest review. Ride safe mate.
There is no front or back brake. It’s „Vollintegral“ so both brakes are braking with hand or foot
Waiting for the full review in the better weather like you said thank you buddy 😘😘😘💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️
The rain is wet? Wow! Congratulations on being one of the (if not THE FIRST) first reviewers of this bike!!
I always appreciate your reviews and style of presenting new bikes. I have put my down payment for a 1300GS Tramuntana and now Ducati put out the Multistrada Grand Tourismo. I am still biased to the BMW torque engine and comprehensive updates. Would be great if you can compare these 2 bikes head to head. Looking forward to this next review :)
If you want a sporty ride the Ducati is the better choice. Much more fun in the high rpm . And it feels much lighter as the 1250 gs
Nice one Scott shame about the Rain, look forward to more footage 👍
I thought I recognised those streets. spent 12 years there in the Army (UK)
I’m praying to the bike gods for nice weather in Germany
Perfect👍 Love it👏 Best adventure bike ever... Let's ride another 50m in the rain😂
I have a '22 RS, which I preferred over the 1250 GS because of its lower weight and ease of handling, and because I don't ride off-road. Not on a 250kg bike, anyway. All subjective, of course (though it is lighter and lower). The quick shifter is clunky and good if BMW has 'nailed it' - though I prefer to do the old-fashioned thing of pulling in the clutch lever. I'll be interested to see this engine in other models.
Yea, looking forward to the 1300RS 👍👍
“What about the front brake “ … don’t forget they are linked !
I subscribed to your channel but have to take all reviews made BEFORE the big press review rides with a grain of salt. I've NEVER watched a BAD REVIEW prior to press release - I wonder why?
Interesting that you mention the brakes - I found that the Brembos on my 19 1250RT had significantly more progressive "feel" than the Hayes on my 21 RT, which I find ridiculously "sharp". (My pillion concurs!) I queried this on the UKGSer forum and all those who replied essentially said that they had no problem with the Hayes, so I concluded it must be me 😉
No, you're right. The Brembo's engage later and progressively and the Hayes is just brute force and lot sooner then the Brembo. But on big bikes, at least for me, I want that power right away (Hayes) but on lighter bikes I like the Brembo. This new GS is kind of in between, no mans land to where both brakes will work and work well, it's just a matter of what one is used to. It was raining so that's also a factor with the feel. I took the bike out today and the front brake felt different than yesterday (it's not raining today).
take care,
Scott
Thanks for that Scott - nice to know that maybe it's not just me ! I have no problem with the braking from high speed, they work really well. Maybe I need the subtlety of pianist's hands to achieve smooth slow speed control 😎@@NothingToProve
Damn that thing has louder valve noise at idle than my s1000XR.
Was impressed with the new look but definitely not the price it’s crazy now ,
Nice bike it looks normal easy to control then it’s previous model 1250gs.
The engine still sounds a tiny bit agricultural. It's way out of my budget anyway. For an adv bike I am considering a mid weight KTM 890 Adv.
Why the KTM over the Norden 901?
@@cxns155 Why not?
Cockpit looks alot smaller than the old bikes. Looks like another winner for bmw.
Always enjoy your reviews.
It doesn't look as much as a beast as previous models
It *looks* really well behaved but it's quite a bit more power & torque. I've never been a fan of these boxers - more of a 270 degree parallel twin fan myself - but this looks *nice*. Maybe my next bike once these have a few years on them & the used price is under £10k.
If it rides better, it’s an acceptable loss.
Given the choice would you opt for the RT? I know it is not yet available. I’ve always opted for the RT since I do a lot of long distance riding.
WOW! You nailed that review 😁 How much store credit did you get at the dealership? 😂
Nothing. I wish that were true.
Damn!!! that thing do not have auto-adjusting-mirrors yet??? 🤣
Looking forward to the rt 1300 to hit the show rooms. Love my 1250gs but really enjoy my 2019 r1250rt big time as well 😉
🤐🤪
Scott, you don‘t like adventure bikes? You OWNED one - the F 900 XR, you remember? Have a nice test ride!
LOL! Yea but it's officially not an ADV, BMW say: "Sport" and I add the word "Touring" to it. With a 17" front wheel it's not an ADV bike, 19" is really a minimum for an ADV bike.
take care, & say "hi" to the wife for me,
Scott
Triumph gt pro quick shifter is magnificent.
Nice and really cool bike! Hmm but, i will stick to my GS1250-R i hope that they also upgrade the automatic adjustment windscreen for 1250.
Ha, you say it sounds like a tractor, you should hear my Africa Twin in D mode going up hills! I would have said your GS *purrs* - it's so quiet unless you're giving it some serious juice.
This is the first GS that I really like. Not sure why exactly! Definitely didn’t like the old headlight. This new one just seems slimmer, lighter and more manageable. Not sure about the sound tho! Somebody somewhere is missing their metal 5 gal bucket full of bolts. And I’m not even a sound junkie. Happy for you that you got your hands on one of these tho! Hope you enjoy it!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
I like the sound!
adjusting the windscreen should have its own dedicated button and not require menu diving. I really hope they bring the updated suspension to the RT so that it can lower at a stop. As an inseam challenged rider I can only flat foot a RT with the low seat in the low position but that in turn cramps me up as the seat to peg distance becomes too small. Does this GS your testing have that suspension feature?
Uhm it DOES have its own button. Clearly shown in the video.
@lasse9706 you might want to watch the video again
@@TR--ul6veAre you blind or just stupid? Watch at 03:40 where he literally pushes a button on the control switch that lowers the screen.
I‘d say you bought the wrong bike then !
It's not an adventure: it's an adventure/sportstourer.
Whatever you want. It's an allrounder that can do many things very good.
You said you’re not a fan of adventure bike, just curious what type of bike you ride.
Motor makes more noise than my 1200LC why can’t they make them quieter?
One of my biggest disappointments with the Beemers is the gearbox; they were much more Massey-Ferguson than NASA. If the quick shifter actually shifts and is quick (IE no false neutrals) I’m going to give ‘er another try!
I ride a R1250R, the quick shiftier is fine on all gears when accelerating, but clunky when slowing down. However as a biker from 1979, it is not a big deal. I use the clutch when slowing. The quick shiftier gives better acceleration, but saying that, the bike has so much torque, I hardly need to change gear up to legal speeds before changing anyway.
It is a boxer thing, not a Beemer. Inline fours and sixes have very smooth gearboxes.
@@motolover5697 Right you are, but the older K1600 isn’t butter smooth either. Haven’t ridden the latest so really looking forward to feeling the improvements.
You obviously haven’t driven a Massey Ferguson recently. Modern tractor gearboxes make motorcycle gearboxes look crude.
@@nicholascrocker4329 Now there’s a spin I didn’t see coming! I must admit, recent experience with Massey-Fergusons have been allusive - if I can demo one I’ll be in a better position to compare. I’d certainly have to demo that new quick shifter before I believe it works as well as other bikes. If it does, there ought to be a warning, it could be addictive!
Not a fan of the GS, well not the GS , but the maxi trail concept, but can't wait to see the future 1300 r naked bike
Wonderful review on a wonderful motorcycle ❤
I always look forward to your reviews… This is the first dynamic review of the all new GS… congratulations! A small point, but I have not seen it referenced yet… Did they enhance the handlebar switchgear to be back lit (nighttime visibility)?
No
Deal breaker. KTM and Triumph have back lit switchgear. BMW has missed a trick again.
When will the RT gets the 1300 engine? I would to see a review on RT as well.
BMW should have put this motor in the new R9
Other than the starfish headlight (thanks to VTold I will never unsee it now 😂), the only other design fail in my book is in the mirrors. I’ve always thought those mirrors looked so dorky and frankly, like a set of aftermarket mirrors you put on if you didn’t want to pay for expensive Rizomas. Now, if you upgrade to the rider assistance package, you’re locked into riding around with those mirrors for the blind spot 😫. The Triumph 1200 Explorer models actually give you an upgrade with the blind spot feature since they look much better than the stock mirrors.
All in, it’s a completely minor gripe to be sure, and especially in side profile, BMW hit the design out of the park in my book, but hah ya…those frumpy mirrors 😬
I thought you liked the tiger 900 ADV?
Yes, I do like it, it's probably my favorite middleweight ADV. This is a heavyweight that feels like a middleweight. I've never actually personally owned an ADV bike but this might make me a convert.
take care,
Scott
Scott, I love your content. Sad to see you go down the "Real Honest" "Genuine unfiltered" road. You (of all people) don't need to do this.
Looking forward to your R 1300 GS review. I imagine many hours of joy in the interim.
I never understood how BMW never made a decent quick shifter compared to every other major manufacturer. Being a premium brand, it was always hard to understand how poor their quick shifter was.
I’m curious about that new handlebar mount
Question: in the USA. Want to go on longer bike trips with my brother. He drives about 75 mph on the freeway, motorways here. What is the least expensive bike I could get some wind protection and some ergonomics on? I am 5’11 1/2, 205 lbs, 30 inch inseam, 32-33 inch arm length. What would you get? Thanks in advance. Unable to demo Japanese bikes where I live.
All very nice. But with the price and all the electronic gadgetry there is just so much more to go wrong.
AND
As a private owner / individual who does not fall under the category of Extremely wealthy.
Would you really take it off road ? And or off off road dirt track cross country / cross or around Africa / into desserts for instance.
What's the cost of just one minor drop or fall at say 35/40 mph on a dirt trac.
Asking as with experience of riding my plain old simple GS 1150 Adventure through parts of Africa I have an idea and would care to compare.
Nice one Scott!
i cried after watching this
I am also not a fan of adventure bikes but this one really got me interested because of it's lower weight and bulkiness. But, the price is too much.
Price is ok. You don't need "everything". For 24k you get a great bike.
or two decent bikes at least!!@@szoe139
Price is a relative thing, to the personal income and concept of value.
In my book, based on my experience, it doesn't give so much more than some cheaper Japanese bike to justify that price tag.
Not a fan of ADV bikes? Probably because you have no use for one.
@@martyn_gwell, I think you guessed it right. Historically, I mainly rode asphalt. But, If I had multiple bikes, I'd have one adventure/off-road, one cruiser or sport touring and one naked for daily. But since I ride naked as do it all bike, I wouldn't change it for adv styled because it's less agile, taller, less practical daily, and less fun in corners. That's for my riding preferences. Of course, there are people who prefer adv for daily bike for reasons of versatility and comfort, possibly.
I'm noticing that signal doesn't cancel on it's own very well. Did you find that? I noticed you had to self cancel the last one in the video.
Yep, I noticed this too. At one point Scott turned left while indicating right...😏
that's because I'm always lost...
😂
Why does it look emmasclated like a Girls bike?!
Can i be the first to congratulate you on your new purchase? :-)
🤣🤣 Just don't tell my wife 🤣😁🙄
Thsts like my SAS. I hate my quick shifter. My mt10 had a better one. I really like the looks of the new 1300. But I’ll stick with my 1290. It does everything I want in comfort.
Wow so many haters, sad really 😅
Hello, could you make a video of the TFT to see all the options it has, I don't see any video of it, and also the software version please
In the review that will go up tonight, Monday night, I did some of the new things on the TFT and how they work. But doing a full review of just the TFT, hmm...thinking about it... 😁
Great, thank you very much, I'm curious to know what differences there are with respect to the TFT of the 1250, which looks the same, which is why I was also asking about the version of the software.
Which exhaust was on here? The akcropovich or the stock?
From where in Germany are you filming?
That's a missed opportunity to please BMW'S customers.
So only the quicksifter is super nice? 😅
That's all that matters 🤣🤣
Have you heard any news on when BMW can sell bike in the USA again?
I stopped by my local BMW dealer here in Colorado. I was told that halt on sales has already been lifted.
@@thanewulfgar oh ok thank you. I’m in Colorado too. I go check back with Foothills motor sports again.
Isn’t the drive train on your RT very similar…confused about your not a fan of adventure bike comment?
Ah, the RT is a touring bike, not even close to the GS. BMW use the same drive train in 4 models (GS/RT/RS/R) and all 4 are way different from each other and in different categories. But I can see how you might have been a little confused.
take care,
Scott
@@NothingToProveThanks. Did not know that.
Oh oh - you getting ready to sell the RT for this, Scott?
LOL, no not yet but it is tempting.
Feels light compared to your RT I'm sure, especially since the test bike has no luggage, but compared to 1250GS is the small weight decrease really noticeable?
It's 12kg less it could probably be noticeable.
@@chrishart8548 That looks to be an option 719 model. Doubtful it is any lighter than a 1250.
@@JoeS97756 a base spec 1250 maybe lighter than a full spec 1300 but isn't that comparing apples and oranges at that point
Lots of marketing hype out there and not many facts. Maybe Scott can put it on a scale for us and measure to see how much 'slimmer' it really is.
The best tractor since 35 years 😂
Will they release a GSA version?
Spring, next year 👍😁
Nice video. Nice bike.
RUclips with its Ad Blocker - they don't like their customers I guess.
What is that squared plastic thing in the middle of the windshield?!
Navigation bracket?
The windscreen looks cheap. Like a Harley.
Wow that sounds awful. Glad they sorted the quick shifter, rarely use it on my 1250.
