Yes, they did that to you. 🤣 The spoken part roughly translates to "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it". Marko wrote the music, he brought it with him from his first band Tarot. Tuomas heard him playing it one day and thought it would make a great song, and wrote the lyrics about a lonely lighthouse keeper. And you're right, only Marko can pull it off. I think Tuomas has said, after Marko left, that this is a song they can't play any more. Marko's double neck, called "The Beast", is a custom Warwick Infinity bass with Framus Panthera guitar. Very heavy and very expensive. There is another spoken part just before this video started, where Marko says that he is one man with a guitar in front of 20k people, and that the other 'weasels' doubled back an left him. Glad the 'weasels' came back.😁
Thin Whistle is the stick called..a hollow metal stick with holes in it.. love it.. "When your lips are still red" is also a Marko song with Floor in the background...but start with "High Hopes" no Floor this time. she wasn't with NW then. not a cover but a tribute to Pink Floyd...awesomeness.
Marko is a living legend in here Finland. Very well known guy around whole country. I recommend to check out Markos first band Tarot from the 80s which he started with his older brother who plays guitar in that band. Check out Wings of darkness or Pyre of gods.
Every time one of the members takes over the place in front of the band all other members step back to let him/her shine. This is Marko's song; therefore Floor took over the backvocals. It is the same with "Kiss while your lips are still red" (Wembley 2015) where also Marko has the leadvocals. And in "High Hopes" he is the only singer and phenomenal. All members of Nightwish are outstanding artists who play/sing for the song without showing off - no egos on stage only good music.
Great performance. The entire Tampere concert is incredible. Hope you check out more from this particular concert. Nice reaction. Also, as everyone is suggesting, please check out the High Hopes tribute.. Marko vocals are epic.
Tempera was one of those greatest shows like Waken 2013. Sleeping sun was unbelievable from this show where Floor was the sole spotlight. This same show had the greatest version of "The Greatest Show On Earth" a once in a lifetime show ender!!!!!!!! (anyone leaving that show would be so pumped!)
NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. Love this song so much! This was Marco’s moment and NightWish was there to have his back and support him. A more beautiful song may not have been written yet! ❤️🤘
The mix let Floor assume the role of backup singer. And she does a beautiful job. And, like everyone else says... you'll be amazed by Marko in High Hopes.
"The sound that comes out of that f***** stick!" Oh man!!! I lost it! That was sooooo funny ................. to me anyway. I think they are called the low and high whistles.
Yeh, you missed the Marko introduction in translated sub-titles, but he said here: "If I play the chorus, you will sing along? You will? OK, then we'll do it!" Marko is a Warwick endorser and they own Framus guitars too, this is a Warwick/Framus - Infinity/Panthera. The acoustic like sound is from a piezo pickup in the bridge and a Kemper modelling amp. Marko's backing singer, Floor Jansen. Let that sink in a moment.
Its a whistle, a type of flute. Flutes use a precisely sized slit to make a sound (think blowing in a beer bottle). Woodwinds use the vibration of a piece of wood to create the sound.
ITts a low whistle from Ireland. His fingering technique is called a Piper's Grip. His main instrument is the Uilleann pipes, and that is where it comes from.
In the original clip, Nightwish is so hot that their campfire sits around them! edit: Love the idea of Capt Jack Sparrow running across the stage! Tuomas chasing him in the same gear! LOL!
Floor is the furthest away from a Diva she could possibly be. I went to her solo show and even there she nearly left the stage to give her guitarist the spotlight throughout the guitar solo.
Great display of Marko's folkier voice. Too bad you didn't get the longer version, where Marko has a bit of fun talking to the audience (with English subtitles), prior to the performance. It really sets it up nicely. And yes, I love Floor's reaction when Marko is coming back to the stage. Reminds me of the end of "The Greatest Show on Earth" when Marko and Floor both gesture towards Tuomas to show respect. The humility of everyone involved is why it works so well. No egos getting in the way.
I’m going to go in a different direction than what the others are suggesting here, and say that you should react to Marko singing Stones, from his solo album. The reason I say that is Marko models his singing after one of his idols: Ronnie James Dio. You can actually hear it in his vibrato. Now, imagine Marko playing a cover of Holy Diver, or Last in Line. It’s scary how close he sounds to Dio.
Oh, you like the sound of the flute? And you like metal? And folk music? Man, do I have a treat for you! I've got a song that will blow your mind. What do you get when you mix rap, heavy metal, traditional Indian sounds, a killer flute solo, and breathtaking scenery, and wrap it all up in a positive, inspirational message? You get _Aaj,_ by Bloodywood. I promise, it's everything I'm hyping it up to be... and then some! Aaj - ruclips.net/video/kgvH6tX4Ej0/видео.html You can thank me later. 😉
This song is awesome but High Hopes will blow your mind
Marko's voice is so earthy and this song really shows it. You really need to do High Hopes to get a true view of his range and emotional ability.
And Master Passion Creed
High hopes next Marko is awesome and Empuu really shines
I concur, emphatically.
Yessss
That’s an Irish low Whistle that Troy is playing.
Very few can claim that Floor sang background for them. 😉
Yes, they did that to you. 🤣
The spoken part roughly translates to "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it".

It’s called a low whistle. Lower voiced cousin of the tin whistle.
Tuned in D
This particular song was actually written by Marco
was gonna write glad u did =)

Well-spotted! The low whistle is played with "piper finger" - like a bagpiper, stopping the holes with the pad of the SECOND joint of the finger.

Marko is unbelievable talented
Next Marko song, should be High hopes, or while your lips are still red, Start with high hopes maybe, thats a Pink floyd cover well executed..
Great performance. The entire Tampere concert is incredible. Hope you check out more from this particular concert. Nice reaction. Also, as everyone is suggesting, please check out the High Hopes tribute.. Marko vocals are epic.
Gotta do a few more song from this show. Endless forms most beautiful. Is a banger
I loved how much you loved this. ❤❤❤ One of my absolute favorites.
There is a really beautiful music video for this one. Nightwish is so great that campfires sit around them.
Goosebumps every time
Floor: I need a bathroom break.
Marko: I've got ya!
When Floor Jansen is your backing singer...
NightWish Army Wisconsin Chapter here. Love this song so much! This was Marco’s moment and NightWish was there to have his back and support him. A more beautiful song may not have been written yet! ❤️🤘
Great reaction! Floor definitely let’s Marko shine here. And if Floor Jansen is your backup singer, you are a certified badass!
On the next listen check how many different ways Marko plays his guitar!
His formal music education was on classical guitar, and it really shows here.
High Hopes, Dude! You said the name wrong. We've been saying that if you wanted to hear some good, 'Marko', to check out High Hopes.
Watch the Greatest show on earth song from this Tampere gig.
You should react to Marko singing Wings of Darkness from 1984 with his band Tarot. He was 20 and then 20th Anniversary of the song.
Yeh, you missed the Marko introduction in translated sub-titles, but he said here:
"If I play the chorus, you will sing along?
You will?
OK, then we'll do it!"

Marko's backing singer, Floor Jansen. Let that sink in a moment.
Imagine how Marco felt that day....to have Floor as his background singer....
The backing singer is not bad as well,,😎
Very beautiful
🤘🤘🤘
That double neck is called The Beast!🤘🎸I believe it is called a low whistle.🤘🎸
Also check Nightwish - Endlessness with Marko 👍 Trust me
Its a whistle, a type of flute. Flutes use a precisely sized slit to make a sound (think blowing in a beer bottle). Woodwinds use the vibration of a piece of wood to create the sound.
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. Since you're a 'String' guy, if you want some good Emmpu, High Hopes! Truly.
ITts a low whistle from Ireland. His fingering technique is called a Piper's Grip. His main instrument is the Uilleann pipes, and that is where it comes from.
The video "The making of the Islander" and then the original song! Wow. That is so amazing. Thanks for your reaction.
In the original clip, Nightwish is so hot that their campfire sits around them! edit: Love the idea of Capt Jack Sparrow running across the stage! Tuomas chasing him in the same gear! LOL!
When you are so good that Floor is your backup singer.
High hopes man,really
NW Army Italian Division here. Marko is a gem and a true artist.
Floor is the furthest away from a Diva she could possibly be. I went to her solo show and even there she nearly left the stage to give her guitarist the spotlight throughout the guitar solo.
I believe Marko wrote this song... the MV for this is great too.
🤩👍💥💯🎼
🤘😎💙🎶
Irish whistle, E flute

Hallo 😀. Yes, what a Voice. Ha, Johnny and Tuomas! 🤣 Hmm, Holopainen or Depp Look-a-like? Who is the better Jack?
How good do you have to be to have Floor as a BACK-UP singer!!
There are Floorgasms and Markogasms....I love him as much as Tarja, Anette, or Floor.
G-d, I miss Marco in Nightwish. They really do need someone with his singing ability to do so many of these songs.
🤘😊🇫🇮💙🇫🇮🪄🎼✨💯👍
In LOW WHISTLE the finger spread required is physically demanding with considerable practice.
I believe it's called a tin whistle.
Low whistle. Tin whistle is the small one with the higher pitch.
@@Tarkus_ Ok, thanks for the info. It sounds amazing.
Floor Jansen as your backing vocalist? Yeah, you have made it...
Hanki elämä
GP, low whistle!
This song is even better when you're not talking through the whole thing!
Tämä laulu saa kusemaan hunajaa
Not a bad backup singer?
Man I hate this version I know it's about 20 to 30 seconds difference but the difference makes a difference LOL
LOW WHISTLE
