As a Cards fan I always respected this guy and his talent as a ball player. Those Cards Astros 04 & 05 series were incredible. Hope he’s enjoying life after baseball.

His career numbers are great , but if not for the injuries he received while playing, especially being hit by pitches (which were probably the worst.) they would’ve been without a doubt some of the best stats of all time.

Great ball player. Extremely underated. He could do it all and do it well. Played the game the right way. Great leader and teammate.

Great interview! I agree with Baggy that the 2004 Astros were better than 2005: Beltran was a monster that postseason & Lidge did not get pawned by Albert Pujols yet.

I meet Andy Benes when The Braves were in Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. he was sitting out in front of the Hotel we were staying in. I walk by him and said man you pitch a fine games. But your bullpen let you down.He talk with my wife and I for quit a while. He was impress I knew who he was out of uniform. I told him that while I am a Atlanta Braves Fan...I was also a Baseball fan. He asked if I had a baseball or something I wanted sign. I had no pen no nothing. I told him...no worries..just him speaking to me for a few minutes was more than enough.

The dude that brought PEDs to the Astros. The 90's Astros were considered a hotbed for steroids at that time, this is published in the Mitchell Report.
