  • Today we are checking hives in the Regan yard for the first time this year. What are they looking like? We have two double deeps, two single deeps and one combine to check out.
    On the recording time issue I checked the SD card and it showed that it only had about 45 minutes of room even after all files were deleted. After I reformatted the card it had almost 3 hours recording time available.

    One of those capped brood frames would be a nice boost to the little NUC. Thanks Joey!

      Yep, they will be getting at least one frame soon.

      I will be giving them a little help soon, if it looks like they are going to at least try to survive.

    Yes Joey if I lived that far south I think I would throw a super on that colony too. I was in my colonies yesterday and I have drone brood already. I live in Central Virginia I couldn’t believe the nectar and pollen they are bringing in from the maples. I put pollen Pattie’s on yesterday since it’s going to rain the next four days and then turn cold. You made lifting that box of honey look easy. I hate putting the honey back on too.Thanks for another great video! It was great getting to meet you at the Expo.

      Thanks. It was great meeting you too. I had planned to but another box on them today but didn't make it over there. I will be splitting or at least pulling nuc out of them around March 1.

    That wind was blowing pretty decent that day. Ive done the zipper thing before too. 😂. You have some good bees in that yard

      Yeah that wind started almost as soon as I set the camera up. Thanks.

    I would probably pull about 4 frames of that honey and replace with drawn comb to give the queen room, and then throw a honey super on top. Always enjoy the videos Joey. Hope you are well. Hope to meet you some day.

      @josephrawls  4 месяца назад +1

      I just might do that. I will be using some of that honey for splits shortly. Thanks.

      @@josephrawls That would also have had the added benefit of lightening that box up before you pulled it off there. 😅

    Hey Joey, right now I want the honey so I'd super that hive; otherwise, I would use it to do splits. Enjoyed the video.

      Yep, I'm going to add a box for now. I well be splitting around March 1 if not sooner.Thanks.

    Offload abour 5 frames of honey into the nuc box before picking it up. As far as what to do about that double, it depends on your goals. Need to grow or infill, use it to make splits. Need to equalize, spread the wealth. Out of honey to sell, harvest it. For sure you need to super it pretty soon.

    • @josephrawls
      @josephrawls  4 месяца назад +1

      When I harvest honey in deeps that is what I normally do. I planned to put third deep on the two strong ones today but didn't make it over there, just to give them room. I plan to be splitting around March 1 if I can't put it off that long. Then I will be moving it around to where it is needed.

    Joey, I am in SC and inspected 17 of mine yesterday. I have the same problem with about five hives. They are double deeps with 5 frames of solid brood on both sides. Drones are not plentiful yet so I added a third deep figuring I could just remove the box as a split. I already had a queen excluder on them with a super trying to give them room and that was even full. Really would like to split them but also want to keep them whole for honey production! PS, stay away from @jeff Horchoff …then you will not forget to zip up! 😊

      This is a good problem to have for sure. LOL that a good idea blame it on Jeff.
