  • His Mother was the United Kingdom’s much loved queen for over 70 years and since her death his eldest Brother has taken to the throne. But what do we really know about the Queens youngest Son?
Edward, the King and Queens fourth child, had a great level of autonomy over his future compared to his siblings.
He did not have a path laid out for him in same way that his eldest brother, now King Charles, had.
Like many of the other Royals, Edward has endured public scrutiny and criticism. Despite this, he has emerged as one of the most hardworking and well-respected figures of the monarchy.
Edward is praised as a kind and down-to-earth man. Edward and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh mainly stay out of the limelight but the strong couple always step up when they are needed. They provide great support to the other Royals.
His dedication to the monarchy and warm personality have made him a favoured child amongst his parents and the general public.

Perhaps it is because there is no such corruption like in other places. The English school system is the best, hence the obsession of foreigners to send them their kids there. The system in America where kids go with guns & are so disrespectful of their teachers are appalling.

Their Silver Anniversary will be celebrated next year, and I hope there will be a big celebration for the only child of the late Queen Elizabeth II who hasn't gotten divorced! They have raised their two beautiful children to be credits to 'The Firm', and watching all eight of the Queen's grandchildren stand vigil over her coffin was a very emotional sight. Seeing Sophie and Edward watching as Louise and James stood with their cousins showed how much they support their children, as good parents should!

Edward is my favorite royal. He's authentic and an unabashed family man. Thankfully, Charles III has given the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal meaningful jobs and titles to assist him during his reign. Elizabeth II is a tough act to follow. However, the king's sister, brother, Duchess of Edinburgh, heir, and daughter-in-law are capably fulfilling their royal duties despite the family rift with the Duke of Sussex and the embarrassing antics of the elder snot commonly known as the Duke of York.

But the prince must have realised that not passing for one of the most gruelling trainings would have been scrutinized and even ridiculed. And yet he gave it a go. For that I respect him.

The real duty and responsibility felt toward their communities, their country and humanity at large. Prince Edward is a lovely man. Having arranged to meet a friend at the bandstand in Saughton Park, Edinburgh, a while ago - and unaware of his presence in what seemed to be a fairly low-key private event in the nearby sunken garden; we were astonished when he simply walked over and began talking to us and other members of the public who were there - asking how we all were, and were we enjoying the summer weather, and suchlike! It obviously wasn't part of his programme - but a spontaneous move on his part (if the somewhat astonished look on the pair of minders following him was anything to go by) and something that he genuinely wanted to do and enjoyed doing... I imagine that it was perhaps his way of ensuring that he was not reserved simply for the official company that had been assembled. He is very slender indeed when you see him close up, but with the same good and upright posture of his father and others before him. Effectively the third most senior man in the land, his kingly brother and nephew are fortunate indeed to have him by their sides.

It's fascinating watching the tabloid press being almost literally forced into a volte-face on Prince Edward. He was, for many years, their elected "Bad Royal" (in the tabloid sense which rules, for reasons passing understanding, that there must always be a "Bad Royal"). It probably started with the Duke of Windsor; then it was Princess Margaret, then Edward, now Harry. Nowadays the redtops are rather spoiled for choice when it comes to Bad Royals, so even they must now concede that despite a couple of pretty minor blips, they got this one wrong. I for one am glad to see HRH finally getting the credit he deserves. Have always admired his work.

But you’ve forgotten how they waged war against Princess Anne too when she was much younger - so much so that she told a bunch of reporters to “Naff Off”, which itself hit the headlines. They should have known better than to try to intimidate her Royal Highness. She’s got more integrity in her little finger than those gutter press.

It may not be fair to say Prince Edward was "the favorite child" because I think he and his siblings were all very special to their parents, each of them in very different ways. Prince Edward may have enjoyed more time with his parents than the rest of his siblings because he was the youngest child and his parents were more relaxed and had more time to dedicate to him when he was born. There may also have been a greater affinity precisely because his parents were more mature when he appeared on the scene. I think that special attention may have contributed to his calm character. He does have a very excellent sense of humor which I think he may have inherited from both his parents. I think it was brilliant that his parents didn't interfere in his relationship with Sophie, no doubt a benefit of being the youngest. I was so glad that he was given the Duke of Edinburgh title. I only wished that it had been given in hereditary form, but as I understand it, his son James is not considering a royal life. So it may be for the best. BTW, he produced a historical series called "Crown and Country" which is excellent. You can still find episodes in RUclips.

Without his family background Edward wouldn’t have made it. He failed at everything beside doing royal representative tasks. There he is obviously doing a good job and is very well liked, so luckily he has found his place.

I didn't think Edward "was a disaster as a young man" . He did not complete military training (Commando) which was a plus in my book. He was not an academic, like his oldest brother now our King, he got a Second Class Degree Div 2 but it was clear from his underlining of the importance of access to the primary sources that he had learnt something about History which his interviewers had not. He wanted to branch out try and express his creative side and Ardent had a nine year life, leaving a legacy of actual programmes (many released on RUclips and as good as anything else available to us in the colonies at the time). The financial side was less impressive.
I'm extremely glad that these two have each other. A compatible partner is an essential in modern Royal life. May God be gracious to them as they recover from the deaths of Edward's parents, the nastiness of the king's second son who while not entirely wrong in what he said, was so warped by media intrusion, overuse of drugs and alcohol while young, and capture by another older woman of colour was extremely hurtful.

Edward is no ordinary person and just think if he was a Royal, he would be going bankrupt. It is the truth, and everyone knows it, so why not if your company goes down why not put all your time and effort into being a royal makes perfect sense to me

The Queen was not a very good mother to Charles and Anne.
She was so busy with her role and traveling.
She always had time for Prince Phillip.
I think Andrew and Edward received more of her attention and love than the older children.
    Sad how she treated them.😢

Edward has proven to be the best of the best when it comes to royal children of hrh e11. He never sought to make waves or be frount and center but he did his own thing. He made some great dovumentaries and if the firm hadn't stopped him he would have had a splended carèer. He has proven that he can follow the rules and not bring shame etc. To the royals. If the queen decided to nsme her successor and not go by order of birth that she would realize the best asset the royal family has is in her youngest, most level headed respectable and respectful member of THE FIRM. The one thing king charles can do for himself, his family and his subjects is to abdicate in favor of william. Edward would back and guide william 100% in the right direction
Come on edward you and william can save the monarchy from themselves. God nless prince E and prince W.

Commentators make your mibds up for years youve all been bsnging on about how Andrew was the Favourite child, years, now all of a sudden it eas always Edward.🙄🙄. The dear Queen DID NOT have favourites ( nor did she have favourite grandchildren OR great grandchildren🥱🥱) Andrew was born TEN years adter Anne/ 12 after Charles,Edward came along FOUR years after Andrew. Which meant in a way the Queen had 2 families. She LOVED THEM ALL.

I would hope Prince Edward was his parents' favorite. He never caused any trouble, is the only one who's still married. His brother (no longer randy andy) is the most embarrassing person to have once held a title is now lesser looking than that of his sweet younger brother. He still is a hunk. His brothers name doesn't even matters since he's a nobody.
I love the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Edward. He is kind, funny, beloved, cute, giving, hardworking and not a me person like that other one.

Yes he did. Not sure why this period in his life was overlooked in this documentary. He was a house tutor for two semesters from late 1982 to mid 1983. I was a student at the school during this time. I vividly remember Prince Charles, Princess Diana and baby Prince William visiting the school during Prince Edward's time there. There is a building on the school's campus called the Prince Edward Auditorium to honour his time at the school.
