I can relate to your angst about first driving the Porsche, my first year with a brand new Cayman 987, well that car NEVER even saw rain !!! Now I'm over it and took that anxiety off the table...DRIVE IT AND ENJOY !!!
Regarding the blinking check engine light, it may have been moisture in the gas tank - my 986 is really sensitive to moisture/condensation in the tank and has scared me a couple times by flashing the CEL and stuttering badly. Only lasted a few seconds each time, if you dont drive it much id say that may be the culprit!
I feel the same way. Don’t want to risk it on the public roads/traffic. For my first year, I drove it daily as it was my only car. It ran more smoothly than when I picked up the car. I’m guessing it’s cause it only had 47,000kms and now I have added 10,000kms. Recently had to replace the clutch with flywheel and runs even smoother. Don’t worry about the IMS, 987.1 received the 3rd gen. It’s larger in diameter and thus cannot be replaced without an engine rebuild. Speaking of engine rebuild, watch out for bore scoring. Tends to happened to higher milage vehicles. Signs are excessive oil usage, engine ticking and the tailpipe soot build up is excessive and unevenly distributed between the two tailpipes. Particularly on the drivers side tailpipe as cylinders 5,6 are most common (cross over) to bore score. If you have excessive white smoke, it’s hopefully Air Oil Separator ($100 part) but difficult to install. There’s a myth that bore scoring does not occur in 987.2 due to the fuel injection engine but it’s because they typically don’t have any milage as it’s more rare vehicle and owners tend to keep them as garage Queen.
I made the mistake of buying a 981 instead of a 987 as my first Cayman. I say "mistake" because I found myself in the same position you are in. The 981 was at the top of my budget and was such a nice car that I was constantly worried about it. Especially considering that I was living in the city and parking it inside public parking garages. I loved the hell out of that car though, putting 6000 miles on it in 5 months! Ultimately I longed for a garage and more stability in my living situation, so I sold the 981. I'd like to pick up a 987.1 in the near future. I've always liked the way the 987's look and with the current prices I'd be able to comfortably afford one without stress. I'm excited to get behind the wheel again. Thanks for the content!
Great video, wonderfull car. I have a Cayman 987-1 2007 and if I saw that my oil level was like yours, I would add at least 1 liter of oil, maybe 2. I'm not sure because I've never let it get that low as shown on your dashboard when you started the car at the beginning of the video.
No 987.1 Cayman is an IMS risk. They all got the final big bearing that hardly ever fails. The 3.4, however, suffers chronically from bore scoring. It's weird to see someone who ought to know better and owns one of these cars propagating incorrect IMS info and not being aware of the scoring issue.
Sorry about the tirade in the previous video on your main channel. Although, I do still prefer a stand alone video as opposed to collaborations. Passengers tend to distract from the overall gist of your videos. Nothing against you or the gentlemen [Que]. This was merely a suggestion. Please accept my apologies if I crossed a line brother. Nevertheless, I appreciate all the time and energy that goes into your channels Topher. Stay classy my friend.

If it helps at all i got a dash cam to make myself feel better about using my car more. Although in your case the interior is so clean i would hate to see anything thats not oem 🥲

Ah! That is likely what was going on with mine. I appreciate the insight

I've considered a dash cam! I'd need one thats wireless and rechargeable that I could just stick on and go. Not sure if that exists. haha
@@TopherDrives i mean if you need something like that you have to wear the pov camera every time you drive lol.
