I was raised just being thrown on a horse and expected to ride with no guidance. I never had the encouragement to excel with good guidance. I am 53 and got back into it. These videos are incredibly humbling, but more encouraging to find my place in my own horses minds. I love Kerry’s riding and how he gets through in his technique. I really find the desire to want to be better for our horses. It is a pretty accurate art to flow as one. Every horse deserves to be rode like this. Wish I could find him near Durango Colorado. I have an 8 yr old who has it to give, my riding shows up constantly and his willing connection is still good and I can tell he is waiting for me to advance. So grateful for these videos.✌️

I like how you give actual times of how long you do things.

This was very helpful. I have a Playgun grandson and he tends to want to drop to a trot from a lope or a walk from a trot…unless we’re with cattle. Then he’s all business until I say quit! So your advice is very helpful to get him in the same work ethic when he’s doing other things besides working cattle. Thank you!

Breanna, yes I do my best to work on the lope on both sides. But it's not uncommon for me to spend more time on one side if my horse is more braced on that side. Do I always lope that long on each side? Not always. But sometimes I lope even longer. I leave it up to my horse in the beginning. And as he gets better, I challenge him more and more. One thing is for sure, a horse only gets better at what they practice.

What do you do if a horse just wants to continue gaining speed?

Give me suggestions regarding a bit for this type of riding. I have a open ring snaffle with a cross but she pushes her head down and hard to pull up with out really pulling. Thats not good to do. Dont want to hurt her. Leilani Shannon.

When you say that a person needs 20 hr of loping on a horse before they "find their seat, or their rhythm" , do you mean they need to do that with every individual
horse that they ride, before they can get properly acquainted with that horse, (and that horse with them)?
Or are you saying that 20 hr of loping is what it takes for one individual person to learn what they need to feel, and then they will be able to train each subsequent
much quicker? Thank you for dealing with this subject. I am and amateur, and i have trouble finding youtube videos that explain this.

I think after you have ridden a few horses you can adapt pretty easily adapt to any horse. IMO its going to take more than 20 hrs to adjust to everything in a canter. You use it for a lot of things. Just cantering or loping in a circle prepares you for just that ..cantering in a circle. But i like his philosophy of repetition. Horses do feel different ..it's not just rhythm its how broad his back is etc his conformation etc so yeah you have to get used to it.

lol doing the math correct me if i am wrong..
    5 sec per circle
    60 seconds per min
    = 12 circles a min
    720 circles an hour
    14400 circles in 20 hrs
