I would highly recommend the song "The Streets of Philadelphia". It was the first song Bruce wrote for a movie. The movie was from 1993 called "Philadelphia". The film starred Tom Hanks in his first Oscar winning role and Denzel Washington and Directed by Jonathan Demme ("The Silence of the Lambs"). The film was one of the first films that centered around the AIDS crisis. Bruce won a well deserved Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Bruce was going thru a divorce at the time this album came out and Patti had just joined the band. They got together during this time and you can see love forming in this video. They got married a few years later and have been together ever since. I play this video often, one of my favorites. Thanks you two for covering it.
Patty joined the band in '84 for the "Born in the USA" tour, which I saw in Cleveland that Summer, and even from the cheap seats way in the back of the old Richfield Coliseum I could see the chemistry between them. I guess he couldn't at that point, having replaced Stevie with Nils right before the tour. He finally took off like a rocket with that album and spent a crazy two years on the road, and then married a young starlet named Julian Phillips (she was in the TV series "Sisters" in that era) at the end of the tour. That didn't work out, "Tunnel of Love" came out of their rocky relationship, during which time he fell for Patti and caused a big scandal for awhile. But he redeemed it by staying with Patti ever since, and being one of the great romances of Rock 'n Roll. And boy did I just cover a lot of territory in a few sentences.

"Tunnel of Love" is my favorite Springsteen album. It means the most to me for events that happened in my life at the time added to what Bruce was singing about - the destruction of his first marriage and his decision to leave the E Street Band (both would be fixed by his love affair and marriage to his wife Patti Scialfa, the redheaded guitarist and vocalist in his band, plus his reemergence with the E Street Band). The poetry on this album is some of the most poignant of his long writing career ("All I can think of is being five years old following behind you at the beach tracing your footprints in the sand trying to walk like a man"). The songs are mostly about love lost, a theme he's returned to time and again. It just strikes the right chord with me.

I was in the 12th row at Chapel Hill in North Carolina for the Tunnel of Love tour, and even then, you could feel the heat between the two of them on stage. The love of his life, and the mother of his children.
If you ever get a chance to see Springsteen in concert…what a show. The female singer is Patty, his wife. I don’t think they were married yet, but they were falling in love!
I was lucky enough to secure tickets to see him this coming November (super pumped)! I love this song. Like so many of The Boss’s songs it doesn’t sugar coat the reality, but lays it out as it is in all its raw emotion.
The woman singing is his wife that's been in the band since born in the USA album that came out in 1984. I went to that concert during 1985. It was one of favorite concerts he played for 4 hours with a 20 minute break half way through the show.
Cowboy singer Chris LeDoux did a great cover of this one. LeDoux had been a professional rodeo cowboy before he went into music. Both he and Springsteen have songs called "Cadillac Ranch"; both songs are really cool.
One of the most underrated albums of all time of his, following the mega success of Born in the USA , this is an awesome album and I have been playing it or parts of regularly for the last 35 years ,Tougher than the rest , Tunnel of love ,Brilliant Disguise and One Step Up are beautiful songs and Spare Parts might have the best opening line in the history of music to grab your attention " Bobby said he'd pull out Bobby stayed in" that sets the tone !!!
Bruce did a song called “Cover Me” which was originally written for Donna Summer. It’s on his “Born In The USA” album. I think you both will like that song. 👍👍
My future wife and I went to see Bruce in Atlanta on the Tunnel tour in 1988. It was our first show and it was amazing. We loved that entire album, and over the years Tougher than the Rest became our song. Six years ago we saw him for the 13th time with our three teenage to young adult boys. He broke out Tougher on a perfect outdoor Saturday night, and the kids loved it for us. My wife and I have now been married 33 years, and we just saw the Boss for the 14th time last month. He’s still amazing!
The lady singing with him was his future wife, Patti Scialfa. They got married in 1991 and had 3 children. Some people have described his concerts as a religious experience. Other good songs of his are "Born to Run" and Born in the USA." Thanks for reacting to this.
Great song - great reaction....That is his wife who is singing with him - Patti Scialfa....They have been married many years and like another couple I know, have three beautiful children.....Another stunning song from that album to check out is One Step Up
It seems strange to say it, bearing in mind he is a global superstar but I still feel he is underrated as a singer, songwriter and performer. He really is a prolific producer of great music.
Great song! One of so many. He is a master song writer and his music is iconic. I am so excited that I’m finally going to get to see him in concert in December out here in LA. One of the few left on my bucket list. If you ever have the chance, do not miss the opportunity to see him live! Sending love from sunny So. Cal.
Jay I loved the T shirt and as not having any bible learning had to go away and find out what it means, love the sentiment. Now other will have to go away and find out too. Beautiful song by Bruce and Amber away in the sweeping melody. Keep em coming friends
This is my favourite Bruce Springsteen song. It's just so lovely. I also love Dream Baby Dream Devils and Dust, Chasin' Wild Horses, Downbound Train... the man's a poet. Gotta love me some Bruce. The documentary about him by fans (Springsteen and I) is great.
I have been waiting for Bruce. Amber you missed it ,he was in Tulsa! Beyond amazing. I was singing and dancing like a teenager, (I am 61) I think my husband was happily surprised. So good live, they are in their 70's ,you need to catch a show!!
It's interesting to note, at least 3 songs (that I know of) from this Tunnel of Love album were covered by country artists: Tougher Than the Rest - Chris LeDoux, All that Heaven Will Allow - The Mavericks, One Step Up - Kenny Chesney. All such great songs, along with Tunnel of Love and Brilliant Disguise off this one.
**NEW Band Alert for the Rob Squad** Yes, the Mavericks are an amazing band, especially live. And Raul Malo's voice can melt your heart or get the party started. Amazing range.
If you want a Springsteen rabbit hole.....'LOST IN THE FLOOD' off his first album. EPIC - he has three songs that make up a sort of "Urban Trilogy" that close his first three albums. "Lost in the Flood"' "NYC Serenade" and "Jungleland" which you have heard. He was like 22 when he wrote it , and it is EPIC. Thank you!!!!
Ok J and Amber, I’ve been a huge fan of Bruce and the E-Street band for decades. The “girl who joined him” is Patti Scialfa. She and Bruce had many mutual friends in the Asbury Park, NJ music scene over the years and he loved her voice and had her join the band. Bruce was then married to Juliann Phillips, a model of some prominence at the time, but things were not working out. Speculation at the time was that Bruce and Patti began a romance while on tour and then Bruce got divorced from Juliann. When this video came out, it was the first “confirmation” that he and Patti were actually together, so it was very surprising at the time. Bruce and Patti went on to get married and have children and remain together to this day. She is still in the band, and has even done some solo work musically. Speaking of seeing Bruce in concert, I saw him for the first time during the tour shown in this video (Tunnel of Love album tour-1988). I’ve seen him several times since, including just last month here in Texas. He still puts on a great show, tho not quite the energy at 73 as he had in his 20s & 30s. As sad as divorce can be, Bruce and Patti appear to be true soulmates and it seems it worked out for the best. Please post more Bruce reactions, he’s got such a vast catalog. I know his videos will routinely get blocked, but other channels indicate they are able to post after 30 days or so. Love the channel, keep em coming.
Actually, Patti and Bruce were not married at the time of the Tunnel of Love tour, only a couple of years later they would become spouses. However, the love sparks between them were more than obvious at the time.
Jungleland has the best sax solo. A lot of this album was about his then current first marriage. He was married to a Los Angeles based actress. It didn't last long. He now lives on n NJ farm 2 miles from my sister, which includes Thrill Hill recording studio. His 2nd wife of many years is the woman who sang with him. A Jersry girl. Patti Scialfa.
I was fortunate enough to see the Boss a few times when he was in London. The first time was 4th July 1985 and of course..... he opened the show with his song “Independence Day.” That would be good one to check out if you enjoy slower, deeper Bruce. It’s about his not always harmonious, relationship with his father. Bruce’s writing covers so many topics so beautifully. He’s one of my top three singer songwriters of all time, with Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler. All of them have been so prolific over the years and produced such clever, insightful, atmospheric and relatable songs. And in the cases of Bruce and Mark, fantastic orchestration with it. I’ve been blessed to have them as part of the soundtrack to my life.
The first time I saw Bruce was in 1985 in Frankfurt Germany. It was his born in the USA tour, when he came out singing 'Born in the U.S.A.' all of that were American and military were so loud in the audience. When he did 'Glory Days' though that was what made our homesick heart feel it. His song 'the river' made me cry.
I saw Bruce in London on the born in the u s a tour . It was the 4th of July and he started the gig solo. He came out with an acoustic guitar and sang Independence Day. Mind Blowing!
Another great song to react to for Bruce Springsteen is 'Jungleland' which has an abstract story, different cadences, and a great sax solo or two! I think you guys will love this one. If you can get the live version at the rock and roll hall of fame, that is even better.
Me and my baby drove 1500 miles into Tacoma WA May 5 and 6 1988 to catch both shows! They were amazing! And you could totally see that Bruce and Patti had fallen head over heels in love!
In order to truly understand his greatness, depth and range you would have to listen to Bruce for several months. There’s just too much there to get doing bits and pieces. One masterpiece would be Jungleland(live at either Hyde Park or the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at MSG). Whatever one you do make sure it’s while Clarence was still alive and playing sax.
I was introduced to Bruce's music way back in 1977. My New Jersey roommate played his latest album and I was hooked. I saw him back in 1984 AND 1985, Opening night of his "Born in the U S A" tour. Love his music!!!! The redheaded woman is his wife, Patti Scialfa.
I didn't really appreciate Bruce Springsteen when I was younger, but I have really grown to like him. I think one of my favorites from him is Brilliant Disguise.

Bruce is the Goat man i can´t put into words how much he influenced and inspired me.
Springsteen’s signature song is Born to Run. You must react to it. It’s one of the first songs that made him famous!
How freakin epic is it that his wife Patti has been in the band since 1984??? Absolutely love this duet between them
Another great one from this album is Brilliant Disguise (with a pretty awesome music video too): ruclips.net/video/idnJnjV_8rg/видео.html
Bruce did a song called “Cover Me” which was originally written for Donna Summer. It’s on his “Born In The USA” album. I think you both will like that song. 👍👍
He actually gave her a different song that she had a hit with. I'm trying to remember but I think it was called Suspicion.
@@modelbuildingcorner It's called Protection😉
“Girls in their Summer Clothes,” by Bruce Springsteen.
Beautiful song.
Tunnel of love is an underrated gem of an album
When Bruce lays into the harmonica and the crowd erupts! Epic chills!
The documentary about him by fans (Springsteen and I) is great.
i am a born to run stan but when tunnel of love came out it moved to my number two. great, great song here and great fng album.
Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA / Tunnel Of Love
Bruce and Patti’s great duet, written when they were falling in love ❤
Love it!
A truly beautiful song.
I have been waiting for Bruce. Amber you missed it ,he was in Tulsa! Beyond amazing. I was singing and dancing like a teenager, (I am 61) I think my husband was happily surprised. So good live, they are in their 70's ,you need to catch a show!!
It's interesting to note, at least 3 songs (that I know of) from this Tunnel of Love album were covered by country artists:
Tougher Than the Rest - Chris LeDoux,
All that Heaven Will Allow - The Mavericks,
One Step Up - Kenny Chesney.
All such great songs, along with Tunnel of Love and Brilliant Disguise off this one.
The Mavericks are such a great band! Eddie Perez is a monster guitarist.
**NEW Band Alert for the Rob Squad**
Yes, the Mavericks are an amazing band, especially live. And Raul Malo's voice can melt your heart or get the party started. Amazing range.
I have seen him live around 10 times and each time gets better.
Bruce's wife, Patti looking fabulous! I love the whole Tunnel of Love album.
2016 River Tour at Nats Park. All three live, AND Incident into Rosalita. A concert for us old fans!
And you could/should do Incident on 57th Street followed by Rosalita.
He is singing to his wife onstage with him Patti Scialfa. Watch the video again and watch how they look at each other. There’s so much love.
Actually, Patti and Bruce were not married at the time of the Tunnel of Love tour, only a couple of years later they would become spouses. However, the love sparks between them were more than obvious at the time.
Watched Bruce and Patti sing this at Wembley stadium in London Saturday 27th 2024 and it was the most amazing show ❤
Jungleland has the best sax solo.
Jungleland is incredible - the sax solo is unreal. Should definitely check out the late great Clarence Clemons (The Big Man) on Saxophone!!
The song 'Tunnel of Love' ,is one of my favourite Springsteen songs...
&how the' tunnel ' is a metaphor of life...
You gotta listen to If I Should Fall Behind by Springsteen.....so beautiful
Yes definitely, the live version with the whole band taking turns singing the verses, it’s a heartbreakingly beautiful song.
Love this song. A couple of years ago, a band called Night Traveler did a very cool cover of this. I encourage people to check it out.
Everything but the Girl does such a beautiful rendition of this song that I always thought it was theirs.
The red headed guitar player is Patty Scialfa Bruce's wife since 1991 mother of his 2 sons and 1 daughter!
Bruce Springsteen will be in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on Nov. 10th. It will be a great concert.
OMG, so many great Bruce songs you haven't done and this one manages to get to the top of the list. Ugh!
You're right. Bruce wrote this song with Country in mind. He once said that.
Its like watching a love story unfold, they are still together with three kids and a grand baby.
