My boss owned Voodoo forever. Was on crew for 10 years. Thats our engine in Bardahl. Sad about T-6 last flights.😢
Makes me feel like when Dago Red debuted in1982 and Strega in '83. Nothing like a fresh modified racing P-51 shredding the sky at 50 feet AGL. Nice addition to the final race season at Reno.
Qualifying at 469mph and Dreadnought broken, it looks like an easy win for Steve Hinton in Bardahl Special 2023 Unlimited.
Steve Hinton is among the best pilots I've ever seen compete at the National Air Races at Reno. 🤠
I was so looking forward to seeing a pony in the race again. With Steve on the stick, I would say that was your Gold Winner.

Still a whopping 30mph gap in the qualifications as ''Bardahl Special'' averaged 469mph and ''Dreadnought'' 441mph - Altough things are not looking okay since Dread's engine blew up.

There has not been a real race in Reno for years since the RARA screwed everything up. This year with Dreadnaught out Stevo can run the Bardahl Mustang with the gear down and win the race😁

You could say he wasn't ready to transition to the Unlimited class... but the video is only one of the jobs. The sound is worth a million dollars.

@@sanfranciscobay The Bardahl Special is one of the oldest Reno contenders, it was, as far as I could research, in the competition as early as 1965.
They just took a veeeeery long break.
Yeah, clocked at 469mph - 2nd placed Seafury (Dreadnought) ended with a mayday but averaged 441mph - A whopping 30mph gap between 1st and 2nd
Hope they lengthen the race course to lower g-forces.

Holy moly camera man needs practice or firing.
And NONE of these guys are as fast as the original, fast beyond belief, crews. Rare Bear, Strega, VooDoo, Dago Red. Too much cost to race, compared the the rewards of winning, let alone 3rd place.
Dago Red is pretty dated compared to some of the systems in Bardahl. Bardahl has combined systems from Strega and Voodoo to make a really outstanding package, both of which had been whipping Rare Bear for years. We were 10 mph off of Voodoo's speed and we did not profile the wings.
