Thanks! This was a number of years ago now but here’s the book absolutely everyone was using, us included! You might verify there’s not a more up-to-date book out there now. Or perhaps newer editions have been published. www.thriftbooks.com/w/bicycling-the-pacific-coast-a-complete-route-guide-canada-to-mexico_vicky-spring_tom-kirkendall/305979/item/10389267
Hey-thata been funny,if you had one of your friends on the ride,"jump outta the bushes"with a Jason-mask on and a machete, when you're walkin' across that "log " back there,...lol!
The Bob trailer was perfect for that trip but it sort of incentivizes over-packing. Since then I've gone the opposite direction, ultra-minimalist with Apidura framebags, but a good happy medium would be some sleek panniers. 🙂
I like the mini-trailer you attached for camping gear. What brand is it? Did you encounter any problems with it (e.g. wobbly wheels, tipping on sharp corners) during a long trip like that? I'm thinking of getting something similar for a ride through Quebec next year. Thanks for sharing your vid :)
Thanks John! It'll be a fantastic experience. Here's the book everyone was using to guide their journey, though it looks like it may not have been updated in recent years. Then again, it's not like the HWY1 or the major campgrounds are going anywhere... Just make sure to follow the news regarding HWY 1 closures around Big Sur due to frequent landslides. www.amazon.com/Bicycling-Pacific-Coast-Complete-Canada/dp/0898869544
We did it in July. I'd definitely recommend the summer months, since even then it's quite cool in Washington/Oregon but far more mild than other times of year. There's nothing quite as sorry as cycling for days in cold rain, which is what you can expect throughout much of the rest of the year.
Right On. I used to live in Oregon, it can be brutal riding in the rain. Couple that with camping after riding all day. Not an ideal situation. My buddy and I are doing SF to Portland This August. Hoping for good weather:) Thanks for the reply
Like the video, but really can't say how WRONG you were to be RIDING on the sidewalk over the bridge. If you think it is unsafe to be on the road, WALK YOUR BIKE!! Remember you are putting pedestrians at risk when you ride in their space. Plus, you make all cyclist hated by pedestrians. I know, I'm one of them!!
+Ann Helsel, no pedestrians were hurt in the making of this video. The fisheye lens and 200% speed video are deceptive. We exchanged pleasantries on the bridge's bike/pedestrian byway and were on our way. Happy walking!
+Winston Christie-Blick Lol, Victorians make a serious stink over cyclists. In fact all over BC people make a huge ordeal over cyclists breaking rules, its crazy. I live in Victoria and am constantly defending cyclists, even scofflaws because people make such a huge ordeal over it as if vehicle drivers don't ever ignore rules when they do all the time. I quickly remind them that well over 90% speed, enter intersections before able to complete a left turn and enter cross walks while occupied. Plus the fact that data clearly proves cyclists causing injuries too others is extremely rare while drivers are one of the biggest causes of death. Anyways, enough with the negatives, excellent video and you showed off our great tiny town well in the short amount of time. Hope you liked it.
Texting you from Parkland,FL-LOVE to watch this video, when I'm waking up in the morning, very cool relaxing state of mind,.....
Awesome video I watched it all thanks for sharing! :)
Enjoyed the video, I grew up in Newport and rode all up and down the coast camping. I can't wait to get back.
Thx for sharing! Brought back memories of my tour from Aberdeen, WA to Coos Bay, OR. Great trip.
One of the best bike touring vids. I wanna go on a trip with y'all!
Enjoyed the video, thanks. Been there and done that on parts of the Pacific Coast Highway.
Looks like an awesome trip.& fun

@@Winstoncb thank you very much 👍
Exciting stuff! Thanks a lot. But some of the BIG traffic wasn't leaving you much road space!
Parkland,Fl-still can't believe they have a big clock that "toots smoke"when it chimes, out there,.....
Yeah-with the Pirates Flag & yellow anodized rims, that looks cool,dude,.....

Liked the video but too much music. Takeout the loud music and you have a great video.
Have to agree with greg harvey. Could not make it through video due to music
Looks like an awesome trip. Would you use the Bob trailer again? I used one for a 4 day solo trip and think I will use panniers next time.

What time of year did you do this ride?

This would've been better with a different music.
Guess I'm not interested in seeing nature and having to turn down the urban electronic plastic music!
