What a fun revisit to Nancy Drew. I loved her as a child along with some other great girl sleuths. A few years ago I bought "Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her" by Melanie Rehak. Fun to read. I recently re-read "The Mystery of the Moss-covered Mansion. It is one of my favorites.
That’s great! I never got into The Hardy Boys, but I did grow up with three brothers, and used to play with hot wheels, rockets, chemistry sets, etc. more often than dolls. I also enjoyed their Encyclopedia Brown “boy detective” books. 📚
I just picked up 2 Beverly Gray books I found at our local used bookstore that were published in 1934 One is called Beverly Gray's Mystery and the other is Beverly Gray Senior I've never heard of this series before but for 90 years old they look interesting
I have a small collection of very cool vintage Nancy Drew books, and they all have blue spines and that's the color I always associate them with. I love the older, original versions of this book series because Nancy was portrayed as a much bolder, edgier character before she became toned down in the newer books. I checked a few of those out of the library and didn't really care for them nearly as much, because Nancy seemed so bland compared to what she was like in the 1930s and 1940s books. I highly recommend reading the older books, if you can find them, they're a lot of fun and have wonderful illustrations, as well.
Hey there- thanks so much for watching! Yes, it’s definitely a tough call between the first editions and the vintage ‘50’s/‘60’s editions. I love and have read each. I agree that Nancy is bolder and livelier in the original books! At the same time, I love the matte yellow editions because they defined my childhood! And some of the racism and ableism was reconsidered. Sometimes I look at the cover art of the original books and just swoon! They’re all wonderful 😊
Yikes! Made a correction in the notes section: George and Bess are related: they're cousins; but they are NOT related to Nancy. They aren't "her" cousins --they're her good friends!! Argh. My bad.
Started reading Nancy Drew in 5th grade, 65 years ago and think the older classics are definitely the best.
I agree!
Yeah original 56 and Nancy Drew casefiles 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hi just started reading them again and it's fun reading them again ,thanks for sharing ,
Thanks, Mary! Stay tuned for some more girl sleuths in the near future!
Always wanted to know about Nancy Drew and this intro gives me the concept and titles. Really well done.

Far better story than the movie version. Nancy Drew hidden staircase. They should have made source material accurate movie

Love Beverly! I’ll be featuring her in an upcoming Girl Sleuths vlog. The first books detail her college years ❤️
