      In the lore of Star Wars they are much more like the WW1 stormtroopers, they are supposed to be elite, aldough the movies may not convey this. Actually feel like Solo showed this pretty well in the Battle of Mimban which is basically just the western front.

    One badass detail about the stormtroopers is that some had bright skulls with crossed grenades painted on their helmets, imagine how terrifying it must of been seeing screaming soldiers charging at you with that image.

    • @mattaffenit9898
      @mattaffenit9898 2 года назад +64

      Less screaming, more suddenly your trench is literally exploding and/or on fire, and there's a bunch of scary looking dudes with trench clubs, entrenching tools, bayonets, and pistols running amok and throwing grenades everywhere - killing people, breaking shit, taking prisoners, seizing intel, et cetera. Then they just leave. And a good number of them have been doing this since 1915 when the spades first struck the earth, so they've gotten frighteningly good at this. And they're probably doing all this more or less in silence, besides the occasional report or bark of orders, since more noise means the enemy can figure out what's going on fairly quickly.
      Actual Stormtroopers didn't (usually) charge openly across no-man's land, trench raids were much more successful when they were sudden and violent - doubly so when you intend to actually take ground. Especially when they happen at dusk, dawn, or in the middle of the night, a response is far slower when the enemy isn't entirely sure what's going on - hearing people yell in German would just make it easier on them.

    thats incredible how usually the 2 world wars are considered boring by a lot of people, especially how they are teached in shools, but when you enter in this world, maybe just for curiosity , you fall into a trap and you will never get out, these two wars changed the human history and the whole world. there is so much stuff to study and know about it, is an awesome journey trough these years..
    my respect to everyone who fought, died, lived in these two wars.

    • @DuckAllMighty
      @DuckAllMighty 2 года назад +28

      In many ways, I find WW 1 more interesting than WW 2. It's just that shift from the "old" world to the "new". These young men had heard stories from their fathers, that fought in stuff like the Boer War, that was full of adventure and glory through lush African plains and jungle and then when they got to France, it was a muddy trench, that got bombarded constantly and machine gun fire all the time, and if they looked over the trench, it was a muddy gassy hellscape, it must have been truly terrifying.
      What I really like to study, is everything that led up to WW 1, especially the weapons, their development and their tactical development, and how that war completely changed everything about how wars was fought, and how the entire power balance of the World changed. And one weapon, that truly changed how everything was done until the tank, was the machine gun, never before had there been such a cost-effective weapon to hold large parts of land with minimal crew, of course all the other weapons and vehicles where also new, but the sheer impact on infantry tactics the machine gun had, was truly remarkable. But all the other things invented, such as the tank, the plane, ships and submarines where also insane, and never before had a war costed so much material and men.

    It's true, Germany lost both world wars but let's think about it. In the ww1 the French Army after Joffre was on the collapse. For this reason Pétain said to his troops "Let's wait for the Americans and their tanks". Without the US France would have been conquered, not because frenchies were weak, but not strong as the Germans. In ww2 they carried all their shitty allies and almost took the whole Europe. It's not political or something but the Germans knew how to fight and were superior. Greetings from Italy.

    3:44 NGL I'm terrified by that clip of the Calvary units. The way you have that "Great Martian War" vibe with the footage it would go so well with a videogame cutscene about the Death Korps of Krieg during the Siege of Vraks.
    Fuck. I want to make a first person game based on that siege now 😭
