Derek was and is highly underrated everything! I’m pretty big Ted fan seen him a handful of times for my money Derek made most of Teds bigger shit! Yeah I said it
When I first saw Derek St. Holmes sing lead vocals while playing rhythm guitar in the "new" Ted Nugent band back in '74 I thought "Who is this guy? He's awesome". Best band member Ted ever had in my opinion. So good I think even Ted might have been a little intimidated though he'd never admit it. The one and only DSH!
Ted acknowledges him as a great in a Guitar interview after Eddie died. In the rock press in Australia Ted said back in the day there can only be one leader...a backwards complement really. Love this record.
I think Derek is fantastic . Great singer ! A very accomplished guitar player as well . However this version of stranglehold is a little weak as it comes to the instruments and the guitar . It’s not bad but it’s not Ted . Ted really was not a singer and that’s where Derek shined . Let’s face it though yes was a crazy raw guitar player and it’s hard to duplicate that . Kudos for both of them though . Together they are unstoppable . The spirit of the wild Cd that was released in the 1990’s has some great pieces and they were co written between the two of them .
Derek's SG is smoking! I've seen a few pics from the early days with Ted and Derek had an SG during that time as well. Man can he rock that guitar! He's still at the top of his game without a doubt! He's a vocal legend that deserves to be recognized
I saw Ted Nugent 3 times starting with the Wekend Warrior tour in 1979. Last in 2000. I would have been Rockin to this . Crowd looks the right age to have rocked to this in the mid 70s.
I had the great pleasure to play with Derek in the mid 1990's. He is a great player, singer/songwriter and a great person. he was the voice of the Ted Nugent Band. My favorite singer of the 1970's...I feel lucky to have played drums for him. Speaking of drummer, Sandy Gernero on the kit in this video. He played with Black Jack (with Michael Bolton and Brue Kulick) and Pat Travers and Cindy Lauper to name a few. Great song from these guys! Keep on Rockin' guys!
@@nixworld767 No that is not Rob Grange in this video. He was in Ted's band before they formed The Ted Nugent band. He stayed through 1982 ?? He has a page on FB...and does look at posts and does reply on some things.
Every time I hear this song (which is a lot), I think back to the movie, "Rock Star" and the amazing dance scene after the concert. Love it! Sexy song!
hell ...this is awesome....one of the first Biiig metal type numbers I ever heard as as a spotty faced kid...hey..his voice is so beautiful to this day....
No body from Detroit ever thought that. Ted played all over the place & everyone knew his sound. Derek certainly brought a lot to Teds band. Thanks to Phil Nicholson for "discovering" Derek playing at a school prom.
Some guy on here named Kevin Pinson says he always nails the drum intro. Just ask Derek. So maybe the guy commenting on this video upload is the drummer in this video? He commented twice.
Dam Great to see Derek Back On Stage I Saw him in 1995 when he was with Ted Nugent, I was Lucky I got One of his Guitar Picks, I still have it today 10/09/2015 I was Front Row then and Dam he played great then to he was AWESOME
a good thing to watch is Ted Nugent's rockpalast 1976. Ted's good of course but the side players fuckin kill. especially Derek and his tone. his tone is lusty and beautiful in that one. yeah I said lusty.
Derek's got the voice, Ted's got the guitar slinging in my case, though I still admire Holmes for doing his own thing! Shame he started off singing the wrong verse, but hey, anything goes!
tootired76 well he gets the spotlight without ted. derek was an amazing vocialist and gutarist but ted had the stage performance down, and personally i like ted guitar better.
@@martinkyle1463 Getting rid of Derek, Rob and Cliff was one of the worst moves Ted ever made. Like Alice Cooper getting rid of his bandmates that were his high school buddies. They both put out one more great album but after that nothing compared with what they did as members of a band as opposed to solo artists.
Music is an interpretation this is how Derek chose to play the song he co-wrote. Yes it does sound “perfect” when Ted is on guitar and Derek is singing. Appreciate the music for the music and stop with the negative comments!
Man, I've got this cool gig coming up with Derek st. Holmes. We're going to play Stranglehold ,but I've decided not to practice and see what happens. Not even going to listen to it once through."
most people assume since all those hits are by Ted Nugent that Ted sang, and without Derek those songs wouldn't be as memorable: his voice was indeed an important signature
Voice is still great
I'm impressed
Derek is definitely a highly underrated lead vocalist!
Derek was and is highly underrated everything! I’m pretty big Ted fan seen him a handful of times for my money Derek made most of Teds bigger shit! Yeah I said it
and he can play guitar.
Derek still has a good amount of his vocal range left. Still sounds pretty good.
He made Ted's sound, voice and guitar.. But they were best friends. That's why he can still play the music.
"pretty good"? Come one. He still sounds almost the same as when they first recorded this song 40+ yrs ago. This guy should be a super star.
Derrick and Ted well into their 70's now. Guess ya never got to get old when your full of rock n roll!!!
One of the most badass songs ever created!
i agree if Ted Nugent played it..face it they trashed it leaving the stage full of stink
Lovin' how the drummer comes in at the wrong time! "How do you tell there's a drummer at the door? He doesn't know when to come in" :)
I always nailed it😉
Dereks timing is off here, Sandy Gennaro is just following his cue to jump in.
Thats Sandy Gennaro. He's a legend. You are nobody.

Ted did say he didn’t like the attention Derek was getting from stranglehold. Ted said the group only had one Alpha male and they was himself
Ted acknowledges him as a great in a Guitar interview after Eddie died.
In the rock press in Australia Ted said back in the day there can only be one leader...a backwards complement really. Love this record.
He did admit it! I think it was a documentary I seen somewhere Ted made the comment “there can’t be two alpha makes!” That to me is an admission

So underated. He rips on the levels. I love it
TED HAS THE FINGERS DERRICK IS THE VOICE TOGETHER THEY KICKED ASS AND STILL DELIVER IN 2022 WITHOUT ONE ANOTHER
Now, here's a guy who's still delivering!
Yes sir
Derek has still got it!
Yes he does...

Holmes is fantastic
What was this crowd expecting? Many seem confused, 5% are loving it.
And yes Derek you are a legend I told you once before and I'll say it again
Saw him with TN perform this in 1974 at St. John Arena in Columbus Ohio ,I was in the 4th row ,and a junior in HS, I was mesmerized.
You are one of my ROCK HEROES, Derek St. Holmes! I saw Ted Nugent in 1976, and your vocals and his guitar made that tour! Thanks for the memories!
God, that SG is a thing of beauty.
Total bad asses. That was awesome.
Seen that drummer workin at Wendy’s drive through 3 hours after this gig. I k ow this because I was on fries that night. He’s really cool.
🤣😂🤣
WTF. LOL. LAMO. 🤔🤨😲😯🤣😂🤯🤫
Mistakes happen. How you recover is the key. Drummer fixed his mistake before anything fell off the tracks. This is great.
So sorry I missed this gig! Derek is truly an above the top guitarist and still has those pipes!! Truly amazingly talented‼️🎶❤️
I kept thinking that was Sandy Ginneros on drums, that was with Pat Traverse and others! Good fella!!

I much rather watch and hear Derek play than Ted any day of the week. Derek has a hell of a lot more talent.
And comes with a LOT less baggage, to put it very lightly.
Simply Fantastic! - The baby in the audience around the start is really into it too!

Sanders can bass it up fo' sho'! lol Derek st . Holmes god bless u.
I knew it was you all thr time Derek, it's cool you proved it to many who didn't. From one Michigan boy to another you still jam bro
Totally awesome, I love it when old men still have the jam in them
Wife and I saw Derek in 2021 at the Token Lounge. Front row center - quite electric! Loved the show!
I have loved Derek since MSG's Built to destroy, was not aware of him and Ted before.A great musician and a lovely person...

Derek messed up the first verse - he sang the second verse instead. Lol Vocals and guitar sounding great though.
Derrick St. Holmes kicks some fuckin ass
