@@FireDramine7 I somewhat understand, where you are coming from, though I don't understand, how education could ever be a waste of ressources. My problem with the military is how it is organised. It used to be a bit like militia, but now it is only on paper. Historically, the military model was mostly used for imperialist wars rather than defense. The structure is way too inviting for careerists and is ripe for abuse from the inside and by politicians. May I remind you what the last official operation of the Swiss military was? Shoot at Swiss protesters in 1932 -- so much for serving the people. You may think, this is long ago and couldn't possibly happen today. I strongly disagree, as the entire world gets into more crises nowadays, so increases the fear from the government for popular revolt, and they are already preparing the military mainly for that, not foreign invasion. The MBAS project also heavily focuses on urban warfare as opposed to traditional warfare for defence. This is even reflected in the new camo pattern. 2019 there was even a military exercise against supposedly "violent" protesters. I'm very concerned about this development, especially, when there have been multiple military coups in recent years, which heavily relied on massacring the domestic opposition. By the way, Switzerland has been sucking NATO, foreign if you will, cock since the Cold War. They have even done military exercises with them against a perceived Soviet threat, despite no Soviets plans have been found to invade Switzerland. So yeah, in order for the military to be supportable again, it needs major popular reform in its organisation. Make it to proper militia this time. Those are also much harder to abuse for imperialism and arguably more effective against foreign invasions, as recent and current conflicts have shown. Flatten the hierarchy as practically possible. Include both genders in training. Have the leadership chosen democratically, as opposed to elites selecting it. Have the option for recall. This shall improve the military connection to the people, reduce careerism and abuse by politicians. The morale could also improve, since nowadays most Swiss men hate the conscription.

It's all a case of storage really, security camera's sometimes need to store footage for years on end. To make this matter less expensive the video files are significantly reduced in quality. The camera itself probably has a decent quality. However this footage here was recorded on analog film. Where the quality of the digital footage is determined by the sharpness of the image at the time of recording and the technique that was used to digitalize the footage. And this can be done as many times necessary as long as the original footage on film remains in a good condition. This is why some older movies which were recorded on film can look better than movies from the 2000's which may have only been recorded digitally.

Also, it must also not be forgotten the intense diplomatic activities of Switzerland during the war nor the fact that it was in Switzerland that the German army in Northern Italy could be brought to surrender thus ending the war three to four months earlier.

Just wondering who'd have the balls to take on the Swiss on their own turf in 1964, given their long tradition of ferocious courage and determination in battle, the big terrain advantage in terms of both deep local knowledge and the ground itself, and what looks to be excellent equipment and training. I think it would be a very short list....
We were, and still are neutral, and officially ready to confront any attacker, whomever this may be. However, in 1964 and until 1989, in all Swiss Army exercises, the ennemy was symbolised with only one colour: red! Starting in 1990, I witnessed exercises in which the ennemy's colour on combat maps had changed to brown... and they were coming from the south! I don't know why, but suddenly, those training scenarios started losing much credibility...

The reason why this song works for the video is that it allows the opening sequence with the marching to set the tone. Your adaptation is rather off putting to say the least, and very amateur.

WWII and old Hollywood vibes
This is very Swiss.
This film dates back to the year 1964. Back then, Switzerland used anything to deter foreign powers (in particular, communists) from invading their country. In the sixties, Switzerland with a population of 6 millions had roundabout 800k trained soldiers under arms. Compared with the US today, that would equal a military force of 44 millions trained and armed US soldiers. Just think for a moment about that...
Fascism was the real threat. Right wing terrorists.
Well, if you think, around these numbers and more in US are trained into firearms. Of course shooting is not everything required for defence, but regardless.
@@levvy3006 fascism wasn’t even a thing in the 60s you muppet commies were and have always been the greater danger
perhaps maybe it's 'easier' to prepare that ratio on that scale of a smaller population, to do the same in the US scale it would cost maybe trillions of money....it's still pretty impressive tho what the swiss did, their preparedness could already deterred any invading force to think twice.
@@Tripoloski132 right wing (mostly neo nazi group's ) and left wing (mostly anarchists) terroism was a real treat in Europe in the 50s to 90s.
The swiss army in 1964 looked like the german army in alternative timeline where they had won ww2.
I was thinking of that, an actual Cold War looking Wehrmacht
I agree
The helmets look a little like east german helmets, except for the curve at the side to cover the ears at 1:06 you can see a clear side angle of them, anyways thats just my opinion
that's because they are they appeased the Germans a lot during ww2 to not get invaded by them

You know something is wrong when the average film camera in the 60s was better than an average security camera these days
Is a rebuild
Ultra 4K 1964 😂
Analogic
It's all a case of storage really, security camera's sometimes need to store footage for years on end. To make this matter less expensive the video files are significantly reduced in quality. The camera itself probably has a decent quality.
However this footage here was recorded on analog film. Where the quality of the digital footage is determined by the sharpness of the image at the time of recording and the technique that was used to digitalize the footage. And this can be done as many times necessary as long as the original footage on film remains in a good condition. This is why some older movies which were recorded on film can look better than movies from the 2000's which may have only been recorded digitally.
this film is from the 70s🤪🤪today we are a joke as army!! During the night France and Italy provide us with air cover, the swiss airforce is only open from 08:00am to 17:00pm, when you will attack Swiss, please come during office time! no joke!
I am a hobbyist film photographer, and this footage has my jaw on the floor. Stunning image quality and videography. The cameraman knew exactly what he was doing. Great stuff!!
World: Switzerland is a joke when it comes to wars
Switzerland: hold my beer
A dumb man once said Switzerland was country of pacifists
A smart man knows neutrality is all that stands between us and the Swiss ruling the world
Switzerland lost less wars then USA and Britain in its 800 years of history, never lost a war being in superior number such as British and US armies did. Swiss never abandoned soldiers such as British and US forces did...Switzerland defeated the German Kaiser and the French kings on the battle fields...the Germans in the Swiss wars pleaded the Swiss for peace and the French made a perpetual Peace agreement.
well, we cannot really be proud how we behaved in WWII (making even business with Nazi Germany) refusing Jews, profiting even by transport through Switzerland to Italy.. there is quite a good Arte Documentary that reveals the kinda Hippocrite Character - but.. it was a legit survival-strategy that worked.. and in the end it counts most, that you dont get crushed!
@@Feufeu87 it was like a devils pact, not something to be proud of but i can't imagine a better way how they should have done it, i'm just not believing in the whole "reduitmythos"
@@Feufeu87 Why did Churchill choose Switzerland for his first visit abroad? And why did he hold his famous speech on Europe in Zürich? It was also Churchill who (when Stalin called us pigs who must be punished) said: "Of all countries I respect Switzerland most. Completely surrounded by Hitler it managed to preserve her independence. It is of no importance if under such circumstances it granted more advantages to Germany than to us."
And another thing: could a population of 4 Mio., who could hardly be fed, give shelter to 6 Mio. Jews and this under Hitlers constant threat to attack? Also, it must also not be forgotten the intense diplomatic activities of Switzerland during the war nor the fact that it was in Switzerland that the German army in Northern Italy could be brought to surrender thus ending the war three to four months earlier.

Better you would re read your soldier booklet about laws of wars..
for those who didnt notice at 2:50, the rifle grenades could be fired like a mortar and to set distance, your army issued swiss army knife is used as a weight on a string tied to a loop on the bipod. the bipod has distances notched into it. the knife keeps the string level and where the string is touching the bipod is the predicted distance the grenade will fly
Pretty cool
I've never really heard of a knife being used as an artillery sight, so that's pretty cool. It's truly a knife for everything.
Amazing. I have a real proofed Swiss Army Knife from 1986 I bought from a reservist. I always wondered why one rivet had a hole through it.
thats quite clever thank you.
@Fritz031 the current Swiss Army knife has a can opener which also works as car keys to most militar vehicles
The swiss army lacks experience, but seems to have great training.
Didn't think anyone could make the Swiss seem badass, nice work.
Theres only one entry in the dictionary under 'badass' .....'The Swiss'
