You need to do these long contracts to land these guys tho. He was one of the two best options and we snagged him. If we didn't get him or Burnes ppl would be saying o they didn't get anybody blah blah blah. Can't make these casual fans happy either way.
Yea I wanted Burnes too. But Fried is a World series champion who did pitch to a 3.24 ERA in 29 starts in a " down year" Being a lefty ground ball pitcher in Yankee stadium also helps , keep more righty opponents using the big part of the park.
Only 4 pitchers pitched 200 innings in 24! Why injury prone -1 injury in recent history? Should age better than strikeout pitcher, was needed - will see what happens
Sheeeeeeeeez! Huge pick up! Cole, Fried, Rodon, healthy Cortez, Gil in the 5 spot, stroman in the pen as well as Schmidt, rotation and bullpen depth is looking waaaaay better. Now go get Santander and his 40 homers, could be 50 with his power at yankee stadium no less.
@MTCastro09 yeah he has a great strike out rate, but for me is his ERA. That's my fav stat for any pitchers. Anything around 3.0. 3-5 it's pretty much solid, definitely above avg, anything in the 2.0-2.5,2-7 at the most, it's elite pretty much and shit down
With Fried off the list you wanna talk panic contracts wait til we see what the Mets and Boston outbid themselves on with Burnes. The years and pay are gonna be more for Burnes.
Honestly, he's the one I prefered, but Fried could be a great complimentary guy there. We also still need to figure out 3b,1b, and OF. The guys they named would be nice. I hope Dominguez can become a beast, but he scared me with how poor he played defensively.
That Fried contract is an overpay in terms of years given. He's a pitcher on the wrong side of 30 with some injury/durability concerns. Cashman made this move in a panic after losing out on Soto and Snell. Has any pitcher gotten a deal like this since the Red Sox gave David Price that albatross of a contract? What's the point now of paying that kind of a contract for starters when they don't even pitch 200 IP, which Fried has never done.
@@mhitch2220@mhitch2220 Fried is also an injury-prone pitcher who has broken down midseason twice in the past 5 years during his prime years. Cashman could have filled his pitching holes with middle talent instead of giving 8 years to a 30-year pitcher like this. Also disagree about Price. When he was 30, the guy had a CYA and way more innings than Fried at the same age. You're tripping.
That’s a start
As a Braves fan, this makes me sad. Reminds me of when Brian McCann left us for the Bronx.
Geez, what's up with the braves... they let him go...

Now go get Burnes, Hal. And dump Meatball Nestor.
Decent AAV

Strikeout machine

@@gabrielv.2647 I was referring to Santander

This is not a panic move and you are wrong. Fried is a really good pitcher and is far better than what David Price was. This is a great move.
