Today went to local Las Vegas cafe which serves Hongkong food and drank HK style milk tea for first time and really liked it. Thanks for providing the recipe, will try it at home. Cheers !
Hi Cody, we typically add 2 tablespoons which is 4 teaspoons of evaporated milk when we make this. I would recommend adding a small amount to begin with since some people would like it stronger than others, and then depending on your preference, you can always add more.
In Malaysia we have our own version of milk tea. It is called teh tarik..The milk tea originated from British. We just modified it to our version. So we have Indian, Malaya and Hong Kong milk tea.. Anyway Hong Kong milk tea is thicker than Malaysia's. We don't boiled the tea leaves. We soaked the tea leaves using boiling water and let it for a few minutes before adding condensed milk...
they are all developed from British milk tea, cuz we Hong Kong people , Malaysian people and Indian people have a very similar history during 19th to early 20th century
So for each small cups you fill 3-4tsp or evaporated milk? Would still taste good if we just pour the evaporated milk right on the tea itself, after it’s done brewing?
Good question. Some people prefer stronger tea flavour than others and some likes it more milky. That's why I would suggest adding it to the cup once the tea has been poured out rather than the tea itself. So 3 - 4 tsp is a guideline. You can also put the remaining tea in the fridge for another day or for making an iced milk tea.
Hi Gabrielle! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Is it really just 1.5 cups of water? For some reason it looks more like 3 cups both in the measuring cup and the kettle.
I'm craving for milk tea because of this video!! 😍 May I know what is the 4th type of ceylon tea? I can see three types only, I want to try this at home! Thank youuu!!
Feel free to buy the 4th type from any brand, as long as it’s Ceylon tea leaves. As long as Lipton is used, you should be able to achieve the same flavour ☺️
Good catch! Traditional Hk milk tea does not come with pearls. I’ve added pearls into this milk tea video as I was testing them out with my family for a bit of fun 😂 the ingredients I’ve used for the tea base is still very much for making an authentic hk style milk tea!
Glad you enjoyed it! The Hong Kong style milk tea is known for it's strong and bold flavour so unless you use a blend of tea leaves, you won't get that taste. I would recommend using at least two types of black tea and don't forget to use Lipton. Good luck :)
Hi Gabrielle, I have only Lipton Yellow Label Leaf and Alwazah Ceylon tea. Ratio is 2:1. What are your mix type and quantities. I'm in Canada. Not sure if I can get your type locally.
You can try using just these two first to see if it's strong enough. If not, you can always buy a few other black Ceylon Tea to mix it up with your Alwazah Ceylon tea leaves. We recommend a 1:2 tablespoon ratio (one serving).
@@codyshi4743 you can premix the mixed spoons with 3 different kinds of Ceylon tea leaves. Any 3 will do, give different brands a go and see which one you like best.
Hi there! You could probably use tea leaves from a tea bag but I think the quality and flavour might not be as good. Let me know how it goes if you do end up trying!
Gabrielle Chan, I am so sorry that I accidentally deleted one of the comments that you responded to. So just to be sure, what happens if you only use 2 tbsp of black Ceylon tea and 1 tbsp of Lipson tea?
Hi David, as long as you use the Lipton tea leaves as your main ingredients, you can use any types of tea leaves as a side as long as they are Ceylon. Hope that helps.
I was definitely after a strong and bold tea flavour profile. If you compare it with just using one type of tea leaves, the flavour wouldn’t be the same at all!
Hi Sebastian! So any black tea would do but if you have a look at the ingredients checklist, using Lipton black tea leaves would be essential to get the strong taste.
Thanks for the encouraging words! Yep, if you ever visit a Hk cafe and you should also find them using evaporated milk. Condense milk would be different but could be an alternative option though.
今天學你做了港式奶茶,好好飲,謝謝🙏分享💐。
Amazing! You’re welcome ☕️
Thank you for sharing the 'secret' in making the beautiful HK style milk tea. Love it!

Color of tea is very nice .

yummm. that tea looks so good. thanks for sharing the recipe with us!!
Give it a go! It sure is worth a try!
Does it have to be a teaspoon, because judging by the look of the video, you guys are using a typical meal spoon when adding the evaporated milk?
Hi Cody, we typically add 2 tablespoons which is 4 teaspoons of evaporated milk when we make this. I would recommend adding a small amount to begin with since some people would like it stronger than others, and then depending on your preference, you can always add more.
This looked absolutely delicious ☕️👍
Thanks! 😊
You mention you used 4 types of Ceylon loose leaf teas. What was the 4th one besides the lipton, dilmah, and bushell brand .
It's been too long to remember what we used here but I trust any other type of black tea leaves will do. It is only a small amount.

Thank you so much. Hope you enjoyed the video and maybe made yourself a cup of milk tea too!
I also buy this brand of bubbles. It is the best.
Hi Gabrielle! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Is it really just 1.5 cups of water? For some reason it looks more like 3 cups both in the measuring cup and the kettle.
Hi Rebecca! Yes we used 1.5 cups of water in our recipe. The kettle is smaller than it seems!

It looks simple... is that all you need to make this milk tea?
Yep! It might require some experimenting with the tea blends to get it right though!
I will give it a go
I wanna watch more. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the support 🙂
Simple and nice.
Thank you 😊
I've had HK style milk tea many times, in HK, but never saw it with pearls in it. Thank goodness, too! I can't stand pearls in my milk tea.
Good catch! Traditional Hk milk tea does not come with pearls. I’ve added pearls into this milk tea video as I was testing them out with my family for a bit of fun 😂 the ingredients I’ve used for the tea base is still very much for making an authentic hk style milk tea!
I want to try that so badly now.
Hope my Asia shops got the sugar thing. Gonna try to get the ingredients asap the shops open tomorrow :)
If you want to use normal sugar that’s fine too:) good luck!
Very soothing! Do I need to use a blend of tea, or can I just use one type for this recipe?
Glad you enjoyed it! The Hong Kong style milk tea is known for it's strong and bold flavour so unless you use a blend of tea leaves, you won't get that taste. I would recommend using at least two types of black tea and don't forget to use Lipton. Good luck :)
will the tea flavor not burn out if you brew it in open flame for 30 min? or its only applicable to this local hong kong loose tea?
Not at all. It will bring the tea flavours out even more!
This made me feel cozy, felt like playing persona 5 royal again
Thanks! Haven't played before but must be a good one!
I love this video
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Can someone please tell me the name of this music, for some reason it's very soothing for me ?
sadly I cannot remember the name of this music but i did find it on RUclips, free to use too!

Gabreille Chan how much grams of tea leaves did you use? How much water did you use?
We recommend 1 tablespoon of the Lipton tea leaves, 2 tablespoons of the mixed tea leaves and, 1 and 1/2 cups of water. This is for two cups.

@@codyshi4743 you can premix the mixed spoons with 3 different kinds of Ceylon tea leaves. Any 3 will do, give different brands a go and see which one you like best.

this video is so wholesome
I am going to give it a try

@@mylifegabby What is the fourth type of tea leaves that your dad uses? Besides the Lipton, Bushells and Dilmah?
@@nicolen7284 Great question. Any brand will do, I'm pretty sure we switch from brand to brand. I would say stick to Lipton and Bushells.
The video says "How to Make Hong Kong Style Milk Tea" but I think I missed the part where it names all 4 blends + amount of water to be used.
You can find the full recipe in the description below. Hope that helps.

How much loose leaf tea per cup (8oz) of water, if I want it to be as close to real HK milk tea?
You want to put approximately 3 tsp of loose leaf per cup of water. Hope that helps!
@@mylifegabby Thank you, I've got my "HK tea blend". Now I got to wait for my infuser teapot to arrive.
