Update: I stayed with this drama because of Wallace. The story of love, love lost, brokenness, reconciliation is closer to reality than many soap operas we are fed in CDrama. In addition I liked that Wallace’s voice was not dubbed. I like listening to his Southern accent.
He is 47!!! I watched his series on tv since I was kid and now I have kid myself and he still look the same. He must not mere human. So vampire is real. They are tall, handsome, can sing, dance and rich..... Lol
for me, this is one of so few series of late that offers so much depth into being human on this stage portraying as living 'actors' ...different ppl w/ different lives...the spoken, the unspoken...the seen, the unseen...the known, the unknown and more...much appreciation first to the novelist, Fei Wo Si Cun (pen name) by which this drama is adapted (note I have not read this novel)...perspectives/commentary upon social/cultural, traditional/progressive, generational, etc...of course, this cannot be w/o the excellent production team...tight script, good director, seasoned cast and all...Wallace never disappoints...a wonderful character actor...hope others will enjoy this as much I am...thx much for upload/share...

'loved Wallace Chung so much in The Sword and the Brocade I've been looking for his other dramas and movies. So far, I've watched My Sunshine, General and I, All Out of Love, Memories of Love, Too Late to Say I Love You, Adoring, Liberation and Fall In love (movie with Olivia Wang, not the series). I'm liking Because of Love too. The interweaving of past and present times is interesting and gets better and clearer during rewatch

The raw tenderness of Because of Love exceeded any other such drama I have ever seen. The scene where he confronts her after he finds out that the son is his, gets me every time and the female lead works so well with him. It is like they are dancing. Her face is so expressive. The script itself is very tight, minimum of dialogue with incredible pictures and use of light. They also avoid many of the cluche scenes that are standard.
The 1st time, I attempted to watch "Because of love," I wasn't able 😢 to continue. It was to too dark & very distopic; however, months later, I tried watching it again. Glad 😊 I did! This drama should be considered a CLASSIC. Wallace Chung is an A+++ outstanding character actor. In every drama he has played the lead, he never fails to impress & never disappoints. The story line, the setting, the supporting actors (specially the child), & the rest of the crew, all deserve accolades. The story was brought to life by them. Wallace & the rest made it so easy to suspend ones disbelief. This drama is entitled to various Honorable Mentions 🎖 & Acadamy Awards. All involved did an outstanding job!

This drama made me cry!! Esp that little kid and grandpa, Sun Jun, Tan Jing and my favourite Nie Yusheng alias wallace chung....I watched this drama becz of wallace and really worth watching....so touching it made me cry so much
It took me several tries to get into this drama. But I am glad I hung onto the end this time without skipping episodes.😅 In fact had to binge watch in the second half. Hang in there and enjoy this series. You won’t be getting spoilers from me to ruin your enjoyment 👌
Too sad they see each other for a long time and now he is a cardiologist and her with a heart congenital defect. It hurts her a lot as both are high school sweetheart, he and his father left without any parting words.
The most amazing thing about Wallace Chung is his age. I think he was 45 or 46 at the time the drama was filmed and he still managed to look so young for the character he played. Now he is 48. His Chinese Mandarin has improved quite a lot.
I hate deadbeat and drunk husbands who only exist to take money from their wives. And I can’t believe hes trying to push that pressure on her and even considering using the money for his son’s operation. I don’t know why on earth she’s still with him. It boggles me how they’re people like this in real life who aren’t capable of leaving their shitty husbands
I dont like when a drama constantly switches between past and present along the storyline. You either start with the past then gradually proceed to the present or just stick with the present and maybe put in some memorable dialogues from the past to enhance the story of the present. The whole 4 different set of characters constantly being switched back and forth between past and present just puts me off and I lose interest. I want to focus on 2 characters/ lead actors in a consistent manner. Anything else just pulls me out of the story and the realistic natural it should have had.
Fully agree. I was thinking the same thing. This going back to the past and mixing it with the present is making me dizzy and my interest is fading fast, but I will try to continue watching!
Welcome to C drama world. Most of the dramas I saw introduce high school flashbacks and first love stories. The abridged version of this series much better.
Here in Québec (Canada) we have universal health insurance , that is to say we never pay to see a doctor, to be hospitalized and to go through an operation. As for the medecine, if we have an income we pay a very resonable amount monthly. If not, we do not pay the medecine.
if you're a Wallace Chung fan then you must must watch Sword and the Brocade. It's such a contrast from Because of Love but that just goes to show what a phenomenal actor he is. He sings a background song in each movie.
