    I monitor 5 patients on semaglutide and all have top of the range or elevated Lipase (3 or 4 being elevated). We are titrating the dose to use the least effecetive dose as infrequently as possible. Pancreas possibly inflammed from the GLP-1 drug

    I have two boxes of wegovy, have gallstones and terrified of starting it due to the possibility of developing more gallstones leading to pancreatitis. 😩😭😭😭😭

      Continue to follow up with your doctor. The risk is exceedingly low.

    I'm a 43 year old power lifter who discovered that I have diabetes when I had a stroke in October. I think I would be a good candidate because I do resistance training like it is my religion but my doctor is shy to prescribe this to me becuase I had a pancreatic attack that hospitalized me five years ago. Ive since had one severe attack but didn't go to the hospital. If I lose 30lbs that will put me at 270lbs and 20% body fat.

      @theofficialdrdan 8 месяцев назад

      That is a tough call. Really depends what caused the attack initially. I'd ask to maybe see a specialist for review!

      @theofficialdrdan Thank you for the response. The hospital really didn't give me any answers unfortunately. They just told me to eat less fat and sugar. As I wrote, my dietitian and GP are reluctant to put me on this... I booked my first available appointment with my endocrinologist January 2025.

    I have been on semaglutide for about 10 months and lost 40 pounds and wanted to lose more but my lipase levels were 394. Can this be reversed and i could go back on?

    • @theofficialdrdan
      @theofficialdrdan 7 месяцев назад

      It is possible with lower doses or a break. But it also poses the question whether you are symptomatic or not. It's know these drugs can raise lipase levels but that doesn't necessarily translate to pancreatitis

      @@theofficialdrdan have they found out why it raises lipase levels? Is it making you burn glucose more effectively & keeping insulin low, thereby increasing lipase levels in the blood or something? Kind of like when someone is losing or burning fat rapidly through fasting or a large calorie restriction and has elevated cholesterol because fats are mobilizing & being released in the bloodstream to burn? So cholesterol normally reads higher until it balances out. For example, my cholesterol is always elevated when I get labs if Im regularly intermittent fasting more than 16hours, even if I'm eating healthy, because I assume I'm burning fats. So, I'm assuming it's kind of the same thing happening with the lipase levels since the medicine helps you burn glucose more effectively & keeps insulin low. Just wondering if that's what's going on, and of you are not symptomatic, it's not a cause for concern with the lipase levels, and is just something to keep an eye on? Or should someone actually take a break from the medication if levels are elevated?
