@@nmelkhunter1yeah there were legal issues for all the wsm. But it seems there are a lot of factory rifle chambering them, so I don’t see a big problem, plus 300wsm has won multiple F class championships.
The 300 WSM... The modern gentleman's 30-06. This is the cartridge I think of when I think about the perfect balance of power, accuracy, drop, drift, recoil... Everything. It's the best at nothing... But near the top of everything. Absolutely love it
I used to think the wsm cartridges were dumb, but since the advent of medium length custom actions and my discovery of tikka actions, I'm starting to really like them. I bought a 270 wsm t3x lite in January, and I'm going to get a fast twist 270 wsm barrel for it, and probably a 300 wsm barrel as well. Converting my tikka over to long action will let me load the long, heavy 6.8 bullets into the wsm case at the optimal length to utilize the powder capacity advantage over the 6.8 western.
@wesleyturner1979 A 180 ttsx at 3150 out of a 300wsm has substantially more energy than a 180 ttsx at 2775 out of an 06. Almost 1000 pound feet at the muzzle to be precise. Velocity has a lot more effect than people realize. If you double bullet weight, you double the energy. If you double velocity, you quadruple the energy.
Winchester is so underrated. Yes their brass sucks, but their cartridge design the past 20 years or so has been the best in the world. 300 WSM and the 6.8 Western are phenomenal!
I bought an M70 Featherweight Stainless in 300 WSM 12 years ago and restocked it in a McMillan Edge. It’s the perfect rifle for me. Light, points like a shotgun, and accurate enough for my skill level. It’s taken three species of deer, two species of elk, and many pronghorn. 150gr TSXs at 3250 fps are wicked.
Great caliber - the 300WSM. Accurate, efficient, and very good performance. It's been hard to find brass and ammo the last several years. Glad to see Lapua is now making brass. WSM's were all the rage for a while after they came out then popularity seemed to decline. I hope the WSM's and the 6.8 Western make a strong comeback - they're all awesome hunting cartridges.
The Barnes LRX bullets are really good hunting bullets. However I have found that a percentage of them may have the plastic tips mounted crooked. Some batches more so than others. And some are obscenely crooked. So I have started sorting the bullets to isolate the bad ones, and I save those for foulers. If you want to shoot tight groups with the LRX you will want to cull the crooked tip bullets.

270 WSM kinda fills a gap for me in .27 caliber. When it comes to .30 caliber, 300 PRC jump starts a two stage rocket downrange fast and accurate. I'm good.
I knew it would be a lighter grain bullet for the seven PRC. It really makes it pointless. I feel like a seven Remington Magnum would be a better choice over a seven PRC only favors a lighter grain bullet. I wonder if it would be worth it to put a custom 24 inch barrel to push heavier bullets?
How to improve Rem 300 WSM accuracy.... Lap the lugs😊. Easy to do. Remove the firing pin assembly from the bolt body. Apply lapping compound sparingly to rear of bolt lugs. Insert and cycle bolt up and down 100-200 times, using light rearward pressure. Clean out chamber with air and long swabs. In the past, with the 700s owned, lug lapping improved accuracy the most. Next was Timney trigger and crown touch-up. Surprisingly, custom stock, blueprinting, and bedding did little for accuracy. Keep in mind that this is on a factory gun.😊
The 300 WSM is great, but so is the 30 Nosler. But Nosler needs to open up rifle makers & ammunition producers....the 300 WSM should have a great future....
@ReloadingWeatherby you don't have an old set of glass to put on it temporary? Man I'd be all gungho to shoot it, I don't think I could restrain myself, I'd at least be chronograph testing it. But I get it, it's an experience you don't want to lessen. Good glass will make it all that much better. I just know I wouldn't have the will power.

Well it looks like I almost nailed that PRC 7mm when I commented earlier this morning that you were shooting at 120 grain what I said would have been a firing ttsx on top of IMR 4350 and maybe I should have just left off the ttsx cuz I would have had it balls on with 120 grain on top of IMR 4350
Can you pls do a comparison between 300 wsm & 6.8 Western since they both shoot bullets in the 160-180gr~ weight class. Does the 300 recoil more shooting a bullet in the same weight class?

But I get it, it's an experience you don't want to lessen. Good glass will make it all that much better. I just know I wouldn't have the will power.
@Stewart7516 message me on Instagram. I have more info for you on the Mark V
@ReloadingWeatherby shoot I wish I could,I haven't had any social media accounts for a few years now, other than this Google account and my rockslide forum and a few other forum accounts. 🤷♂️
Was a decision my wife and I made together.
I wish youtube had a DM would love to see what you have.
@@Stewart7516 My email is in my channel info on RUclips
Well it looks like I almost nailed that PRC 7mm when I commented earlier this morning that you were shooting at 120 grain what I said would have been a firing ttsx on top of IMR 4350 and maybe I should have just left off the ttsx cuz I would have had it balls on with 120 grain on top of IMR 4350
You were so darn close I feel like you should win. Do you reload at all?
@@ReloadingWeatherby Been reloading for 15 years and that load that I just mentioned that is a pet load that shoots wonders out of a 7mm wsm
What 300 vanguard did you get, your rifle has fluted barrel and threaded. The one I’m looking at now doesn’t have wither
Vanguard Synthetic
Can you pls do a comparison between 300 wsm & 6.8 Western since they both shoot bullets in the 160-180gr~ weight class. Does the 300 recoil more shooting a bullet in the same weight class?
hmm... Maybe I will
@@ReloadingWeatherby I work in a gun store in central Texas and I’ve noticed a significant increase in interest in the short magnums. My older coworkers are baffled.
Idk what’s up with your load or the crono but you should be seeing 3k plus velocity with anything under 190 grain
Huh? The 175LRX was going 3075 FPS.
@@ReloadingWeatherbyI have a guy that loads for me and I get 3200 with 180 gr bullets and I think if I’m not mistaken he loads 75-78 grains of powder but you can load up to 80 safely
Have you messed with 212gr or 220s? Wanna see if its worth messing with for big brown bear
I haven't
@ReloadingWeatherby would love to see some test with the heavy stuff, not sure if it's viable for you but figured I should share my interest
Mark Boardman senses a disturbance
I hope he watches this video
@@ReloadingWeatherby I hope Seth Swerczek watches your videos and Backfire's video.
You're to comfortable shooting overpressure. Extreme primer flow and a few ejector marks. To see it on one or two would be expected in a workup process but to see a case full.
Prioritizing velocity over personal safety. What value does that 30 fps actually have to you?
None of the loads I shot that day were over pressure. I use to push it as hard as I could... I don't do that anymore.
What was the lawsuit? I never heard that before.
The guy who came up with the WSM line sued winchester because he said they stole his idea
Winchester stole the design from someone and that someone sued Winchester. The guy gets a royalty for every WSM sold... I think?
@@ReloadingWeatherbyI never even heard about that before.
@@WayStedYou he didn't just say they stole his idea,hr proved it with a patent number and a patent date, and the case description and measurements, and that's why Winchester, Browning have not had a problem with letting the best thing they ever had die a slow miserable death ,,,270 wsm, 7mm wsm ,300 WSM ,325 wsm ,,,and if that had not been the case when it first got ran the PRC would not even have been a twinkle in the Hornady eye,,,it's nothing new it's just PRC marketing and hype
Used reloader 17 with 175 lrx in my wsm and got.25 moa and 3150fps
Is 175 lrx too light or is it good?
@@Mattessj The 175 lrx is one the best bullet for the 300 wsm, short or long range,100 to 900 yards!
It was Charles Greer with 10 shots
Thanks!
4831sc seems to be a accurate powder in most guns.
Not the best for velocity... but every single rifle I have loves H4831SC
It’s the best magnum cartridge. Full stop.
300 WSM vs 300 RCM!
hmmm...maybe this will be my 30cal gun once i decode to get one🤔
What velocity 7 prc with that 120
3080 FPS
Who’s excited for the new 3.0 Western?
News to me.
Plz explain more about it 👍
10 shots by Charles Greer
Lol, my 7mm rm shoots 120gr ttsx at 3400fps into a 1/2"
This wasn't close to a max load in the 7mm PRC. I am just trying to get a accurate load
@ReloadingWeatherby I'm not hating, glad you found a accurate load for your rifle. 120's are fine for deer. And mine is definitely close to max with hybrid 100v.
358 WSM
Dose nothinh for me. A dead end cartridge.
Thanks for watching!
H4350 would probably be faster
My 270 win. 57.5 4831sc 117 gr hammer. Traveling 3150. Unreal the7 prc shot that slow. Make 6.8 western great again
The 7mm PRC load was not a max load at all. 64 gr of IMR 4350
@ReloadingWeatherby makes sense. Other than the 340 what caliber you hunting with this year
@@travissmith-wz5nc 257 Weatherby
@ReloadingWeatherby bullet??? You should do video or 2 on your hunting rounds. Then follow up around August.
@@travissmith-wz5nc 110 gr Accubond at 3500 FPS and half MOA
Once again, get a lead sled.
Rumors are lead sleds ruin your stock.
@@ReloadingWeatherbyyes they do. Rifle stocks are built to recoil into a human body. Too not hurt the rifle you would have to remove the action and barrel from the stock and then somehow fit it into a lead sled.
Another fad cartridge no better than a 270 win.
The .270 win has been around for 100 years...hardly a fad cartridge by any means.
The stock it the downfall of that rifle I have the same REM 700 XCR
.243wssm…let’s get it
