Question!! Anyone know about those red “sleep” lenses and yellow lenses? (They’re both for bluelight. And Yellow’s for outside. But) Q: How are these lenses against UV rays though?
Thanks Doctor Allen, this video helped me big time in deciding what sunglasses to get. I recently got contacts and my eye doctor recommended that I start wearing sunglasses due to having a coronial nevus is both eyes. The whole lifetime warranty, made in America, and crazy high tech glass lenses really fit the bill. I managed to get a pair of P3s and a pair of aviators.
Happy Anniversary! I'm wondering, in terms of overall vision adjustment is it better to close your eyes and slowly open them anytime you're putting on or taking off glasses in general?
great video. finally somebody who goes beyond frames and into why we wear sunglasses. i never had randolf but i have had smith and rayban and maui jim and costa and other expensive polarized glasses and to me their not significantly better than walmart berkley's in optical clarity, maybe the frames are better. maybe i'll give it one more shot and go for the crown glass randolfs in amber.
Thank you for this information. The one question I kept having that you did not answer is: Do glass lenses shatter? And, if they do, wouldn't that be another reason to get plastic besides them being more lightweight?
The best sunglasses I ever had were called "golf tint." They were gradient brown from the top and gradient green up from the bottom. The brown on top made the sky very blue and the green on the bottom made the grass really pop. I've never found anyplace else that does it, and the place I got them is closed.

Great content. I'm always buying sunglasses (when I find them on sale). What do you think of Ryders Eyeware? They seem to be good quality at a not too crazy price and they always have some kind of a sale going on with certain models.
What do you think of the Roka C3 lenses? I recently bought two pairs of Roka sunglasses and absolutely love how they fit and feel, and the optics look pretty good two, but I'm wondering how they hold up from a technical standpoint. They are supposed to be Nylon and I don't know if C3 means category 3. I have a pair of Lewis and a pair of TL-1x. I love how light and comfortable they are, and they never fall off my face or slip down my nose.

This is in my top three favorite videos of yours! Living in Southern California and having multiple vision issues, sunglasses are critical for me in my daily life (which is spent mostly outside). I had no idea how many factors there were in purchasing sunglasses. This video has given me so much information and a new sunglasses manufacturer to try! Thanks Dr. Allen! Hey thanks and good question. There may not be a specific healing benefit from tinted lenses but glasses with more of an amber or yellow tint are sometimes recommended for people with retinal disease as the filtering of blue light “may” help protect the retina from excessive oxidative stress. But that is more theory than clinical evidence.
So I have a question, I saw your video on how to put in contact lenses and I just want to know, how hold do you have to be to get contact lenses and how much do they cost?

Several years ago I found a pair of Vuarnet sunglasses. One early morning I was on a foggy lake in Canada and the view from these sunglasses was incredible-extremely vivid, almost surreal view like the colors/land/fog/water popped-it was glorious. Then (long story short) they fell into the lake. I have wanted to replace them ever since but I do not know what they were. Vuarnet sells lenses called PX2000, PX 3000, PX 5000 and one referred to as Skilynx. From my description can you tell me which sunglasses I likely found/lost?
Love your channel. There is a question that I can't really google for an answer. The question - Are there any differences between a transparent lens (white) with 100%UV protection and a tinted lens (let's say black) with 100%UV protection. In terms of UV protection ?
My new prescription sunglasses have polarization but when held front of pc screen show blotchy tint, as if the tint did not extend all the way out to the edge of the hd lens. Optician says it’s normal due to size of lens, etc. Advice on this?
Please explain the blue wave technology of Randolph engineering. Please let us know about impact resistance of the Randolph engineering glasses. I need to know about the Tri Acetate Cellulose lens material and also about the benefits of Red colour sunglasses. Also need to know that the Red coloured sunglasses block 100% blue light.
It (pleasantly) surprised me to hear you recommend high quality glass lenses. My optician discouraged me from wearing my Maui Jim’s because of the glass, citing safety reasons...because a blow to the glass could potentially shatter the glass and pierce the eye. I would agree if the incidence of that happening is considerable but I haven’t heard it happening to anyone that I know and the fact you recommend glass lenses must mean the incidence is very low? I think that if he used the same logic, I shouldn’t drive a car because I could get killed in an accident...which is a risk but rather low. Would you say that’s fair to say that the risk of eye injury from the glass breaking is low?
He probably discouraged it because you could sue him if something did happen and he didn't say anything. That's why, even though glass is optically the best, most places don't sell them because they don't want to deal with something actually happening.
My Neurologist recommended pink or red tinted lenses for my photophobia and occasional migraines. You didn't mention them, and I wonder if they'll really perform better at protecting me from bright sun?

I got my first Randolph sunglasses few days ago. Aviator Bright Chrome with American Gray non-polarized lenses for flying airplanes. The P3 with Northern Lights is in my wishlist along with the Concorde with Cobalt lenses. I have Ray-bans with standard polarized and chromance lenses and a Oakley with polarized Prizm lenses and they are all really good but the Skytec Glass lenses are in another level. You can't explain the difference but you feel somehow it's better. I just don't like it more because it isn't polarized (but had to be that way). It's the only one I can wear inside my motorcycle helmet because if you wear polarized ones with the helmet face shield you gonna feel really sick because this combination distorts the image and colors. It doesn't happen if the lenses are not polarized. I learned that in the hard way. Another point for Randolph is the baionet temple design who makes it very easy to wear with headsets or any type of helmet.

Hi i'm a complete noob at sunglasses, i bought a pair of Ray-Ban Caravan last year, they have the classic green Ray-Ban lens and are not polarized, and unfortunately they're not enough for me as i have quite sensitive eyes (i have mild autism which causes me to have very large pupils most of the time so going out on a sunny day kinda feels like being on an inhospitable planet) i still have to squint a bit while wearing them, and also get red and watery eyes by just staying in the sun for a few minutes (even while wearing sunglasses). I was considering a pair of Randolph Aviators (that's how i got here) with grey polarized lenses, do you think that's going to be enough for sensitive eyes or maybe i should go for the cobalt or green lenses? I don't need to be able to stare at the sun with my eyes wide open, i just want to be comfortable walking around on sunny days. Thanks in advance!
I’ve had my Ray Bans for 3yrs, polarized lenses and love them still. Plan to get the lenses darkened soon tho. Thx for the information, this will be helpful.
I have some questions. Do sunglasses loose their UV 400 protection over time? Does sun exposure fade the UV protection on theglasses through irradiation? Fo Polycarbonate loose their inherent UV protection over time with UV exposure? I have understood Polycarbonate is an inherent safe material regards never loosing its UV protection while CR 39 lenses loose their UV 400 coating after 2 years of sun exposure. I live in a semi desert Zone like Arizona or New Mexico is were the sun is allways very strong. I understood Polycarbonate is the best material for UV safety (never loosing it without the wearer notice it) sincethe material itself blocks 97% of the UV rays. What do you say?
I’m a war veteran. We were not allowed to wear sunglasses that were not polycarbonate during operations. People in the glasses industry crap on polycarbonate but only polycarbonate are shatter-proof. Riot shields are made of polycarbonate. Polycarbonate stops shrapnel. Polycarbonate are what shooting glasses are made off. I love polycarbonate because I don’t like to baby my glasses. Edit: yes, and heard they don’t lose the UV400 protection also.
I honestly believed that all sunglasses were polycarbonate. I see mid-priced brands that are made out of polycarbonate and have always thought, what is the difference between cheap and expensive sunglasses? Now I know!
I have a question! With the luminous transmittance, I'm usually squinting even on a cloudy day so would the category three be a better lens for that than a one or two? Also is it true that blue eyes are generally more sensitive to light than darker color eyes? I feel like that's a hoax but I just wanted to check lmao
Plz answer my question. I am myopic i wear -1.25 glasses.. MY glasses have blue light filter in them i weat them all the time like even when i am not using digital devices even when i am exposed to the sun. I really want to know if i should skip wearing glasses with blue light when i am exposed to sun or when i am studying in sunlight? Plzzz answer me cuz i have Been wearing all the time for a long time 🥺
👋🏻 Ray Ban is one of these brands that don't put AR coating behind the 🕶 except the P3 or Chromance... do you know if it's possible to apply that AR coating to the 🕶 thay don't have it?

Hey there, I have brown eyes and still very sensitive to light, go for Serengeti Drivers polarized lens and you won’t be happier.
What's Randolph engineering BLUE WAVE TECHNOLOGY? Please explain in detail
Are those skyforce polarized?
Plz answer my question. I am myopic i wear -1.25 glasses.. MY glasses have blue light filter in them i weat them all the time like even when i am not using digital devices even when i am exposed to the sun. I really want to know if i should skip wearing glasses with blue light when i am exposed to sun or when i am studying in sunlight? Plzzz answer me cuz i have Been wearing all the time for a long time 🥺
You don’t talk about optical correction - so the refractive index of the lens doesn’t distort the image to the eyes. Is this covered in another video?
What about the amount of UV protection
👋🏻 Ray Ban is one of these brands that don't put AR coating behind the 🕶 except the P3 or Chromance... do you know if it's possible to apply that AR coating to the 🕶 thay don't have it?
That's not true.....I just purchased a pair of Ray-Ban polarized sunnies and you bet there's an AR coating behind the lens. I think the newer models offer this.
Where would I look for sunglasses of this quality that competition shooters can use? (Ballistic rated, so they don’t shatter if metal hits them.)
Any comment on Foster Grant sunglasses?
I'm a big Tom Ford, Salvatore Ferragamo and Randolph fan
Am I wrong, or does a lot of this not apply to prescription sunglasses?
