Absolutely phenomenal play! The amounts of combat & skill expression you can do in Elden Ring is crazy, same goes for Sekiro, they're miles ahead of its peers like Dark Souls 1/2/3 & Bloodborne. It's mind-blowing! The bosses function on a much more complex level, they prioritize strafing, jumping, ducking follow-ups after jump-attacks, positioning is paramount, they have so many combo-branches & positional-based attacks, while also delayed attacks that punish panic-rolling, so that way you either use delayed attacks by replenishing stamina while repositioning yourself for the next attack, or hit them or even heal during them. That's just the tip of the iceberg really! I feel like people do not know how much combat depth goes in games like Sekiro & ER.
Exactly, most people play the game like Dark Souls 3 where you strictly I-frame the bosses attacks but Elden Ring is so much deeper like you said. Then these Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne elitists will belittle you for liking Elden Ring bosses more and call "recency bias".
All of this is exactly why I love Elden Ring combat so much. Once you realize what the game is asking from the player, it's so fun to execute. I don't understand the people saying that the combat is worse in this game. Dark Souls combat was fine but it was deliberately slower paced, it was more about managing stamina than anything else. Not fundamentally worse or better than Elden Ring, but if I wanted Dark Souls combat I'd just go play Dark Souls.
