I vividly remember competing in the 2018 championships (was in the sunset marching band) and I genuinely enjoyed this particular show. The power notes resonated so well in that stadium and grants pass tool it over the moon. Will be remembering this show for a long time
I know this is a late comment since they preformed last fall and its almost spring already but may I just say that this was such a surprise to see the first time, it did not feel like a high school band the scale was huge. Its like nothing I have seen in north west marching area like this it was probably such a surprise to the judges to see something like this. Although tons of shows have had massive impacts this one was so loud and so full that at the century showcase when our band was behind waiting to preform we could hear everything as clear as day as if we were in front of them even though we were behind them, it was crazy
That's crazy. I used to live in Grants Pass, in seventh grade I had to move away. I would have gone to this high school and played with this band. I have friends in the band, and they are really rocking. Any of them could make a career of music.
Was just going back on these shows to just concentrate on the synths and Cymbal Line (and ease my nervousness). Moral of the story, I will never be as good as Michael.
Swimcrafters it does not matter how big the band is my band sunset got 5th and we had 79 and there were much bigger bands like century and southridge don’t say it near my band teacher
@@sarafenn610 ~1700 students. I'm aware. I wasn't being literal about 1/2 the school. It's just a big squad for a school that size. As stated, it's bigger than my school's squad was and we had over 5000 students and it was a VERY well funded school for the arts.
Sara, would it be possible for you to send me an email with the full resolution video? This is the best recording I have found yet. Find my FaceBook profile then I will message you.
@@fenn-op7829 Well, the writer is a straight up liar. He wrote the show for Blue Springs South then when we said it was perfect he went off and sold it which was against contract.
Actually, writers wont make money if they sell ONLY to one band. Your rights are to your specific circuit and usually only for a specific time frame like that year and sometimes up to 5 years. Your band would have to pay a LOT more than any high school band can or will pay for exclusive rights.
@@sarafenn610 I know, and we did pay him much much much more. We'd done this for years before he sold it off against contract. I'm just pissed the district didnt sue even tho we have perfect legal ground, they just dont wanna make a fuss
How much is much much much more? I am on the band booster board, have been "in the marching business" for many many years, and actually did speak directly with the band director regarding this very issue. When I said your band would have to pay a LOT more, that basically meant it doesnt happen. There is no such thing as exclusive rights (besides in your own circuit and only for a time frame) UNLESS your band director himself or herself wrote it completely. It just doesnt happen. If a person makes a living on writing and selling marching shows, you would have to make them extremely wealthy for completely exclusive rights. No public high school can or will do it. If they were to sell a show for any amount that a high school band CAN afford, they wouldnt be able to make a living. Your band paid a lot? Shows arent cheap, most bands pay a lot. I guarantee your band didnt pay for complete exclusivity unless they have millions of dollars just to throw around. Nobody would pay THAT much for a show that they only use for 1 season, it would be a very bad business mistake. I'm telling you kid, you had exclusive rights to your own circuit and maybe for a certain time frame, you did not have completely exclusive rights. Just the fact that you call him your "dealer" says a lot right there about how much you actually know about the business aspect of it or what actually comes with the price. Also, paying "full price" does not give any sort of exclusivity.
If your band did manage to do a very stupid choice and pay THAT much, trust me, they wouldnt be keeping silence, there would be a huge fuss about it. Nobody pays as much as you are trying to claim without getting exactly what they paid for

that’s so nice to hear, i loved performing in this show and calling it memorable would be an understatement
Lol amazing. This is like Blue Springs South 2018. By the way, have they ever tried performing in BOA?
It would be really cool if they did Bands of America. I hope they do it
They just did BOA down near the bay last year but otherwise no.

wait whats your grade now? I'm certainly preforming in this band soon. )next year)
SlippPlays I think century is really good this year and I’m in it
Man it's great to come back and listen to our shows sometimes. I played for the flute section, and I honestly enjoyed playing for GP
Literally all the videos of this show you can hear me scream about bread. Iconic
I literally heard you scream that at finals and it got me so pumped up

Wow no wonder Grants Pass won first. I am an alumni from the West Salem Marching Band so I was obviously rooting for them but GP deserved it.

A 1st place 90.45 is not bad. How many performers (winds, percussion, and guard totalled) are in this ensemble may I ask?
Nick Flores 230something this year
@@sarafenn610 It is exactly 230, according to the NWAPA. That is a 50 member advantage on the next largest ensemble.

GP is not big. Is half the damn school on the squad? Their squad is bigger than my school's was and we had almost 4X as many students.
