    Hi Mark! Fantastic video! As a foreigner living in Dundrum for the last 3 years! It’s incredible to see all the changes that had been done! very sad to know about the bridge demolition! But I guess is one thing for another! Thanks for sharing, first time knowing how did it look back in the day!! Greetings

    3:38 I remember that place as Gort Muire Carmelite Monastery. Is it called Gortmore now? One of my early memories, mid 1960's, is Findlaters Grocers near where the Bank of Ireland is now. There used often be a horse-and-dray waiting outside there, the horse with his nose bag fuelling up for the next pull up the hill! I still miss the old (1970's to 2000's) shopping centre. The new place drives me nuts ! Mulvey's hardware had anything.....

      Hi Andrew! Yes the area has changed quite a lot over the years. Fair play to the people who bothered going out with a camera to take the photos that appear in the video so we can enjoy them today 😊

    Thank you so much, I grew up in Taney until 1994 and loved Dundrum pre the new shopping centre, it had such a lovely atmosphere though it could get rough at times. But a wonderful village as I remember......

    This is wonderful to see. I have know this area all my life and have seen how dramatically in the last 30 to 40 years. Just goes to show the power of the Photograph and how they grow in value as the years go by. While we can thank the people who originally took the photo's, Thank you Mark for putting them all together for everyone to enjoy.

      @S MacO That's a very nice comment, thank you. Yes it's great that people bothered to make the effort and go out and take the photos and put them online. In fact this video is outdated now as there have been much more changes since. Maybe I should go out myself and some new photos from the same positions and reedit and new video : )

    I remember how Dundrum was before the town centre, better and more quaint. Yes, everything progresses, but can't help feeling that it was a better village back then

      I may not have been around to see what Dundrum was like before the 2000s, but I sure know how you feel in a way. Dun Laoghaire used to have a busy shopping centre in the same vein as Carrickmines retail park and Dundrum town centre, but now half the stores are shut down and the place is somewhat of a ghost town, especially on the third floor.

    Many thanks for uploading this video. Lots of great photos. Used to live in Ballawley. Moved away in my early teens but have memories of making my way to Dundrum Bowl via the back of crazy prices past the pye centre and on to the bowl. The dundrum bowl always had the cutting edge arcade games and of course quazer and a few dodgy characters who looked as rough as a badgers backside. Think the place flooded once and I don't think it properly recovered. Thanks again for sharing.

      @Rick Grimes
      True Rick, after the flooding of the Dundrum bowling ally it became a Roller Dome which only lasted a few years until it eventually closed down. A very different space there now.
      Thanks for the comment ☺️

    It’s amazing to see how Dundrum has evolved from a regular little village to a massive shopping complex with its rail connection back after nearly 50 years. But I do sometimes wish to visit this old Dundrum just to see what it was like. Nowadays Dundrum is a combination of it’s older days and the modern era.
